I've used this program before with decent success, but recently I installed it on a friends laptop and it ended up, among other things, corrupting the text of some of the dialog boxes as well as permanently removing "My Documents". I tried their support request process but after more than a week without any type of response, I ended up formatting to fix what 98lite had screwed up.
So, as long as you don't need any support and the installation goes ok, you might like this program.

Ture, the freware version makes you want to part with your money. As for the paid version : win some, lose some, $25 poorer, and like all those tweaking tools (albeit free ones, for some reason), it brings no noticeable improvements and my Registry does not enjoy it.

Free version is nice, registered version is even better. Give it a try!

Tried it today on a mere Pentium 75 that had been crawling under bloat - removed Explorer 5 and replaced it by Netscape 4.73 and it made a huge difference in the whole computer re speed. It really is a great little program. I actually use Explorer 5 on my faster computer, but am tempted by the promise of de-integrating Explorer from Win95. I use Explorer 80 % of the time, Netscape 10%, and now the Mozilla ('core engine of the to-be Netscape 6)betas 10%. Once Mozilla has given birth to prime-time ready Netscape 6 I will surely dump the old Netscape and Explorer, with 98lite's invaluable help.

To the person who thinks he shouldn't rate this program, YOU'RE RIGHT, you shouldn't rate it. How can you rate somthing you have not tried. 98Lite does much more than remove IE. I use it to install Win98 without IE and then install the latest version of IE and not have that version be part of the operating system. End result Windows 98 with IE but without IE integration! Much more stable operating system that also runs faster and uses less memory.

Actually, I prefer IE5 as well. You can use 98Lite's Micro Install and remove all the web integration then install IE5 separately. Works like a charm.
