This is the file manager I like most. It has just the right feature set - is not bloated like most of the others, and it has a functional interace (panel buttons ...). That's a reliable, functional Prog I use at work all day.

hfk - for your info - DOpus does display mp3 tag information. You can configure it to display in the columns of a lister and the viewer includes an mp3 tag editor as well.

great simple file manager that doesnt have a lot of the features some do, like ftp, zip, etc, but it is very fast and stable. starts and indexes quite fast on 952 Celeron 512 Sdram. It used under 2mb ram, and Windows Explorer 12mb with the same two panels open. The ui is straight-forward too. I mostly use Total Commander, but will keep this as an aside i think

Very nice and stable but there's nothing there that really makes me want to switch from explorer's file manager to this.

I've recently tried as many windows explorer replacements as I could find, in search of the best of the bunch. Although AB Commander is a very nice app, and has unique features, I still prefer Directory Opus and possibly PowerDesk (the free version). However, a bit more configureability and AB Commander would rule. Let me tell you of the one feature of AB Commander that makes it stand out from the crowd: it displays reads MP3 tags (not sure if it's ID3v1 or 2 or both, and help doesn't say) and displays tag info in the pane when 'view'='details'. This is an AWESOME feature. I've downloaded and tested many MP3 organizers and have not found a single one that will read MP3 tags and allow the files to be moved from folder to folder. Based on my experience this is feature is, among Explorer replacements and MP3 organizers as well, a unique feature, and very valuable for those trying to organize 6 gigs worth of MP3s. Other highlights: dual or single pane, each pane has configureable toolbars, and the primary toolbar at the top of the app is configureable, a drive bar (of course) and it navigates all the way up to the desktop, which some Explorer replacements don't do, for some strange reason (one of the best, salamander, will not navigate higher than a drive, a feature I suspect has something to do with Unix filesystems, which top out at the root directory) Unfortunately, I have to say that I haven't found the perfect Explorer replacement. Directory Opus is close, but lacks the MP3 tag reading capaility of AB Commander. A nice feature that Salamander and D-Opus have that neither AB Commander nor Powerdesk (free) have is extensive color configuration. D-Opus has a VERY configureable color configuration capability: the text and background colors of the following file/folder types can be individually tailored: selected files, non-selected files, selected foders, non-selected folders, unselected compressed items, selected compressed items. and more. Actually, D-Opus is the most configureable Explorer replacement around, although Salamander and Powerdesk are very configureable as well. Keep in mind that D-Opus is probably also the most expensive. AB Commander is not as configureable as the others, but is still flexible. 2X Explorer is another option, a free explorer replacement that is minimally configureable, although it has many nice features. There's much more to say, but that should at least get you started.

I installed MP3 CD Maker on a fresh install of Win2K with Roxio Easy CD Creator. Unfortunately after installing MP3 CD Maker the Roxio software could no longer write to the CD burner. I then uninstalled this piece of shareware and am now stuck with a system that can no longer write to it's CDs. I contacted Zy2000 for any suggestions, got: "Have you checked with Roxio to see if they know why the Easy CD Creator will not work when the MP3 CD MAKER is installed?" (even though it was clearly their software that broke something.) Thanks for nothing folks. The fact that their software caused the problem is reason to avoid it, that they weren't willing to even attempt to address my problem speaks to the company and what you'd be buying into. Avoid this product & company.
