Hot dog! Who on earth found this, now slightly old, version of AIDA? Whoever it was, however, they have my most heartfelt thanks! I still have the AIDA32 v3.93 from back in March 2004 in a ZIP file tucked away somewhere as I removed it before installing Everest Home v2.01.347. I did not install any updates to the latter after that version as I could see from the User reviews that the authors of Everest were slowly removing functions from the freeware version of the program as they will, probably, produce a version that is available ONLY as shareware. Now that FileForum has made AIDA available again, I am definitely going to remove Everest and reinstall AIDA again. I wonder if any more updates will be coming along in the future as the home sites for AIDA are now closed. Thank you BetaNews/FileForum!

Aida has a hassle free interface that allows comprehensive imformation about ones system as well as limited diagnostics. It's report generation system has a multitude of report types in text as well has HTML with links to the users Hardware manufacturer. It can be usefull for anyone who desires their PC Hardware and/or software makeup, version numbers and configuration. There are a few benchmark and diagnostic abilities as well.
I encountered no issues during install (Zip and run) nor did I encounter any unusual issues while the application was active. One feature I think would be nice (though their are other ways to acomplish) is the ability to add or remove startup pgms from the program as it does a good job detecting and displaying.

- Abit IC7-MAX3
- Albatron K8X800 Pro II
- Chaintech ZNF3-150
- Epox EP-8HDA3+
Please remove AIDA32.VXD, AIDA32.SYS and AIDA32.S64 files to fix it up. This is a temporary workaround, we're already working on the fix, but so far without any luck :(

Ther are at least two free programs that do this with no resources used! They simply patch the uxtheme.dll. PatchXP is one and Neowin.net has uxtheme patcher. This so called no resource feature is a LIE! It increased my page file useage from a swell 129megs to a peak of 221megs after the no resource option was selected and the program closed. My XP core is forced to memory and is not paged. This nearly 100meg increase amazingly dissapeared after uninstalling StyleXP and rebooting. Check it out for yourself! The uninstaller works but leaves the file behind.

This is actually a review of the previous version. This is an excellent program, providing both information about the system and also supplying URLs to the manufacturer of the components (both hardware and software.) In comparison with similar programs, AIDA is both accurate and informative. I can imagine that this program could be modified and sold to different program vendors for accurate configuration of installations.
It is also useful if an individual is planning to upgrade their system. If you have any doubts about compatibility problems before your planned upgrade, download this program and be absolutely sure!

It even can display your windows serial number, plus many other stats, such as fan speed, cpu temp, voltage etc. Definitely worth the download.

bobad reviewed v3.80 on Sep 17, 2003
Passmarks is a COMPLETE benchmark program. It benchmarks all subsystems in a quick and sensible manner which makes comparison very quick and easy. Aida is very good at telling me exactly what I already know (P4-2.8 CPU, Asus P4C800-E motherboard, Samsung CAS 2.5 RAM, etc, etc. Hell, I knew all that way before I bought it. My advice is to take the nice RAM and HDD benchmarks out of Aida32. Either Aida is a very complete system info program, or a sadly lacking sys info program / benchmark program. My opinion, FWIW. With an attitude like yours, my recommendation to use Aida32 is coming down off my web page.
scodan reviewed v3.80 on Sep 17, 2003
Oh, stop whining about benchmarks already... Benchmarking is silliness at its peak. Plenty of people like to waste their time comparing benchmarks between systems, but it really only makes sense to compare a benchmark against another one taken on the SAME system. And if you can't detect a performance improvement in lieu of a pretty benchmark graph in front of your face, you just wasted your time with whatever "tweak" or upgrade you put in place. Benchmarks are for warm fuzzies and dishonest marketing reps. As for AIDA32... I like it quite a bit. I'd give it a 5-start rating if there weren't some minor interface issues that annoyed me.

Fiery reviewed v3.76.8 Preview on Sep 3, 2003
Bobard: I wouldn't say there's any complete benchmarking program exist, but if you like Passmark, then you can use Passmark for benchmarking and AIDA32 for sysinfo/diag. Benchmarking eventually will lose all sense, especially when multi-core processors debut with both physical and virtual multi-threaded architecture and possibly a VLIW-like architecture...
bobad reviewed v3.76.8 Preview on Sep 3, 2003
Too bad about the benchmarks, Fiery. I was hoping you were going in that direction. There are many, many tweaking and system information programs out there already. There is only 1 true, complete system benchmarking program, which is Performance Test. (Passmarks). It's an excellent program, but it has no competition.
Palomino reviewed v3.76.8 Preview on Sep 2, 2003
Hey Dwarden. If there's no freeware version of SiSoft Sandra, how did I get a free copy off the SiSoft website? LOL
The author of this program is releasing to many betas. He should release the program once a month, not almost everyday. The benchmarks in Sandra are used by quite a few review sites; any using AIDA32? Nope.
daddyrabbit reviewed v3.76.6 Preview on Sep 1, 2003
bobad,
I have to differ here, you may know that you have a Seagate 7200.7 SATA @ 7200 RPM, but what about the current and maximum values of the drive temperature?
Or an instant snapshot of system voltages and temps, without running a monitor program constantly.
Or the RAM's TRUE SPD settings without rebooting, or which services and drivers are running and what DLLs are in use or a complete listing of all dlls, memory ranges and IRQ listings for all hardware in one list....
The list goes on, this is an invaluable tool for troubleshooting problems for a single home computer just as much as in an IT environment.
While it is true that device manager, services control, BIOS checking, DXDIAG etc will also give you this info it is a long and tortorous path to consolidate the info into one comprehensive spot to determine the source of a problem (not to mention the reboots to get to BIOS settings etc. AIDA does this extremely well. On a side note I'm glad this program has "Shareware" written all over it. Some of the most usefull programs I have ever used either are or started as freeware/shareware/donateware (e.g. pkzip, Powerarchiver, AIDA, SpamAssasin) and MANY of the components integrated into Windows now started as just that.
This is a KA program that EASILY competes with it's "commercial" counterparts and the developer deserves cheers for keeping it updated and free.
Dwarden reviewed v3.76.6 Preview on Sep 1, 2003
Sandra is inferior to this, nor free variant (laugh) nor paid show so much informations like this ... all what Sandra got and Aida not is some nifty benchmarks ... sooner or later there will be more benchmarking plugins for AIDA ...
Palomino reviewed v3.76.6 Preview on Aug 31, 2003
SiSoft Sandra is free and so is this program. I agree that there should be more benchmarks. I don't like all the beta version releases. Once every couple of weeks is enough. Yeah, I know, but it's hard NOT to download a new version when it's posted.
bobad reviewed v3.76.5 Preview on Aug 30, 2003
Nice program, but Fiery needs to list chnages. This is simply not acceptable for a new beta release. Aida32 needs benchmarks for all subsystems, and a benchmark composite score. That would make it the best freeware benchmarking and system information software on the planet.

Not only is this is the best free system info program for a home user I've ever seen, it also makes my job much easier as a network administrator of over 50 PC's. The hardware and software audit features have saved me many hours of busy work finding out what's really 'out there' on my network, and I can check in seconds to see which PC have or need a Windows patch or virus signature update. As an audit tool, this software compares favorably to programs costing up to $1000 for fifty users.
Polychronopolis reviewed v3.76.2 Preview on Aug 27, 2003
bobad: I have to point out some things that you are missing. If your system is running with all drivers loaded, yes this system does tell you what you already know. However, the beauty of this program is that it can identify hardware at a lower level. Change you video driver to Standard VGA sometime and run AIDA32. Look at the PCI devices under Video. 99% of the time it can tell you exactly what your running, the other 1% it gives you a step in the right direction.
To go further, create a full report of your PC before you format/reinstall. Now you know more about your PC than you ever would before. Reinstall would be a breeze to get it back to the state it was before the format.
bobad reviewed v3.75.8 Preview on Aug 26, 2003
Again, this program tells you what you already know.I know what hardware and software are on my machine, as do most all visitors to this site. This program has shareware written all over it. Except for disk benchmarking and a bit of useful CPU and RAM info, this program is useful only for IT professionals. Still an amazing program, but until there are more benchmarks, it's of little use to the compter enthusiast.

a great program...one remark though: I tried to view the list of active DLLs and switched to another item and then the program stopped responding. I had a lot of programs open so there may be a little bug there.

Why whine about benchmarks !
This is a great program for hardware info *period*
egg83 reviewed v3.23.7 Preview on Jan 23, 2003
This program displays a great deal of information about one's computer, however, there could be a few more benchmarks included. Still, this is still a recommended download for those curious with finding out details about their computer hardware and software.

Great program ! I have never thought so much info exists about my system. Adding CPU and other benchmarks would be nice.
