Publisher's Description
AIMutation is a plug-in for AOL Instant Messenger version 5.x and above. It completely changes the look and feel of AIM by making use of skins. It also hides the ad windows on the buddylist window, creating an eye pleasing interface. The current version is limited to skinning the buddy list window and its menus but future releases will expand opon this and eventually skin the entire application.

I still use this with AIM 5.2.3292. I don't want to use the new AOL AIM malware launching platform.
Aimuntation 1.3.2 effectively hides the ads: it seems many are still downloaded, but not rendered.
AFAIK this was the first application to offer chat logging.
Chat while away is moderately cute as is tabbed chatting.
Skins are pointless unless you're a teenage girl with a unicorn fixation or queer.
Prevent window from stealing focus makes aimutation a MUST HAVE!
Sometimes when chat windows lose focus it's difficult to see text in the top half.
When you must use AIM because many of you're friends are too dim for jabber then a chat application that focuses on chat is the way to go especially if you don't want to mess with Pidgin (formely GAIM), Miranda IM, or Psi (my favorite).

Awesome Program. I couldnt work without it sometimes. Works near flawlessly now. And best of all its FREE!

This program is now completely, legally FREE and open-source. One of they key programmers decided to take a break from the project, and instead of trashing their hard work, the other authors made it open-source. Of course, those of us who paid $30 are a little pissed about the whole ordeal, but the author has promised to uphold our purchase and release any of his future projects at no charge to us.

Free or Not, this is a Betanews website which means it's a Beta Testing area.
Test it. Find bugs. Comments about it.
Yes it does not uninstall completely and it does hung sometime. The only options I like are those removal ads, journal, and hiding those bars. Other then that, I can DO without the "Skin". Windows Theme is enough to make my eyes red.

At version 0.60, it's "free" only if you pay $2.95 to download it and get a serial number. If you don't pay (and download from FileForum), you wind up hung at a prompt asking for a serial number when you run AIMutation the first time. Then, when you uninstall AIMutation, it doesn't uninstall cleanly -- leaving the hook for its OCM file in AIM's config -- so that you have to uninstall AIM and reinstall it. Thanks, guys! Won't be downloading THIS again...

All these decent (this and DeadAIM) freeware apps have now become obsolete to me. Sigh... Trillian is the answer.

A really nice app, but be aware that with .6, you are prompted for a serial/registration immediately after the install (at least that was *my* experience). I saw no way to proceed past the reg dialog without a serial number, but I didn't do too much investigation. I rolled back to .50.199.

Why would anyone need for this to work with DeadAIM? It's plent fine all on its own.

Does this work 100% with DeadAIM yet? I'm afraid to try :)

Hey Xpachaco, that's probably caused from running the latest beta of AIM. I installed the latest beta (after IM prompted me to update), and I had the same problem as you described. Go back to the latest final release from their website and it should work fine.
