I couldn't get this program to play the DVD audio. I tried all the settings for audio that were available & got nothing. The video was fine and clear, Too bad I just couldn't hear a thing. I made sure the mute was off & volume was on & turned up.
I'm looking forward to the final product because I hate using Power DVD & uninstalled it long ago.

not only does it play pretty much everything...you can record from a file while it's playing and you can change the visual properties (brightness, contrast, saturation) which is great for movies taken on digital camera when they're too dark - put the two features together and you can re-record your video so you can actually see things. and the software is free!
has no one else discovered this? also, you can set it so that it will automatically play the next movie file in a directory. great if you've downloaded a series of files (ie, tv shows) to keep it going so you don't have to tell it to open the next file or if a file is split between multiple files - makes it as seamless as possible without doing anything. (you can disable this feature though) The other apps at altools are good too. And free!

Please forgive me if I'm wrong, but don't VideoLAN also "bundle" codecs (which is why it's a 15MB download)? I say "bundle" because VLC codecs can't be used by any other app, how ALShow handles this I don't really know.
Besides comparing VideoLAN and ALShow isn't really fair. VideoLAN is a great and powerfull app, but I wouldn't recommend it to my old granny (to many strange settings). ALShow on the other hand is a nice and pretty easy to use app and the codec center is a really good idea!

Why bundle a player with codecs, if you have VideoLAN available?

+Easy to use GUI. I prefer its single button commands like "enter" for full screen instead of alt-enter in Windows Media Player.
+Smoother video display than WMP (tested Naruto, Rozen Maiden).
+Strong audio.
+Screen Capture.
+Audio Capture.
+I like the URL choices that comes with this beta.
+Initializes quickly.

-Try opening a file with the alt-click/Open With menu and you won't find AlShow. You'll find two squares on the menu instead. (it's a beta....it's a beta...it's a...I expected more from such a fine video player.)
-Wrong information in ALShow Information box at Setup:
"ABOUT ALSHOW
------------
ALShow is an archive and compression utility and is free for personal, non-commercial home use."
Overall:
A well developed video viewer. Very usable now, yet needs a few more tweaks to make it even better.

I like this. It works flawless for me and I had no problems downloading it.

Download works fine for me (don't click the direct link & if you use IE use the infotmation bar at the top).
Not registered as never needed to to use it or download it.
Works well. Very similar to VLC Media Player. Not overly resource hungry. Does a good job to be honest. Will need more testing before can rate it any higher , but first impressions are very good indeed.
