Publisher's Description
Actual Window Guard will help you automatically minimize certain programs upon startup or open them full screen. Another helpful feature is that you can set it to close annoying pop-ups automatically, or other windows you don't want to see. If the windows of the programs you run are always appearing somewhere you don't want, or in some size that you don't want, or not as visible as you want - then it will delight you. Discipline unruly windows and put your desktop in order. This small utility is the final step to optimize your use of program windows and make them more comfortable to use.

1. Saving every windows position costs memory, harddrive space, and a running service or process.
2. Paying twenty dollars for this when you can just do it manually by modifying a couple registry settings is stupid.
3. Installing this program is just increasing the chance of your computer slowing down or screwing up by 1%.

HandyThing saves window sizes differently than this utility does, and it's much easier to use for that purpose alone, since it allows you to create window size/position "profiles", instead of configuring them each individually. I've been using HandyThing on WinXP for years. It works. So does Actual Window Guard--but it works differently. There is a difference between saving a window's last size and position, and saving a static, explicit size and position instead.

Somebody ought to develop a utility that can save a program's window size and position ...so, EVERY time you open the proggie in less than full-screen it's in the same size and place on your monitor.
Wait. ~This~ program DOES that !
After more testing, if Windows Guard continues to function, Bro. Rat will even pay the twenty-bucks for it.
Now, if only somebody will make a utility that forces Windows Explorer to remember your last-used "view" !

Ok, have played with this a couple days. It ~is~ an effective tool for managing window positions and size on-screen. Bro. Rat particularly likes the 'gunsight' feature.
Tried Starfish Bay's HandyThing...

...which is supposed to do pretty much the same thing, and couldn't get it to work in either WinXP or WinME.
