I see this version with the previous version on my browser. Almost like it added it on top of my older version. Not good

It's bundled with Norton Security - What sane person while updating this sadly needed program would think oh I'll install Norton along with it - Crazy with massive bells on.

Seriously bundling this with some other stuff?

Shockwave is a very big opportunity for gnash because it has stopped evolving.

I give it a "2-star" rating because they try to bundle in a toolbar. (I don't care which toolbar, if users want a toolbar they should get it as a stand-alone program. I've got users with 7 toolbars because they all came with something else.) But then I have to lower that to "1 star" because the toolbar screen ignores the '/S' silent install option. When you have to manage thousands of systems, you depend on silent, or 'unattended' installs for all the labs, and re-imaging tasks. If the silent option fails, then you have thousands of computers waiting for somebody to come deal with them. Adobe is very consistent in thier low-quality installers. Every Adobe product, regardless of how good the actual program is, has an installer that is made like crap. If those same programmers worked for me, I'd fire them. The only 'major' software company that makes worse installers is Apple. (Lots of crappy software makers out there, but of the major players, I hate seeing updates from Adobe or Apple because I know they are going to cause problems.) I can update the full 20+ DVD suite of AutoCad products for our engineering college and not have a single problem. But one little Shockwave update, can break the entire campus. Hmmmm. Maybe a "1 star" is too high? The first thing Adobe needs to do is quit trying to bundle other stuff with the installers. We don't need to have Google Toolbars or McAfee virus scanners, or anything else added on. If your product isn't good enough to stand alone, then maybe you should rethink its release at all...

This works for me though it broke the 3D hardware acceleration with youtube videos, this worked with 10.1 flash player no problem. Might be due to my old AMD 4850 10.5 CCC drivers also :/

One star, because you can do without this piece of software for the 99.9% of the sites, and one day you find out that you need it to browse a single site.

Perhaps I am going to the wrong websites, but haven't ever personally had a need for the Shockwave player. It will be installed if ever needed. For now the low rating is for it's uselessness and waste of disk space.

ADDENDUM: @mjm01010101: There is only a flash folder in that directory and all of it's files belong to the Flash player. Perhaps it did get deleted somewhere along the line. Thanks for the warning.

Nothing wrong with the full version that I can tell. Want to make sure you have the security hole plugged that they been talking about.

Don't get suckered into getting the Symnatec software unless you really want it.

DudeBoyz

DudeBoyz reviewed v11.0.0.465 on Aug 6, 2008

Solid app that appears to work well functionally, but I do wish that they could streamline it a bit. I fear that they are trying to make this app do a lot more than most users would need, so I do support the idea of having a slimmer, bare bones version that limits the ability of this player to interact with the system.

It really should stick to being a PLAYER instead of an interactive development environment, imo. I do not want it to be able to work with local files on your hard drive, for example. I would pretty much like to see this player be contained so that it is unable to affect the stability of the operating system and can only appear and work within the confines of a web browser.

Shockwave is ok but like so many other companies are doing the installer comes with optional Norton Crap that you have to uncheck. There is a slim version on their home page but it includes the Norton thing too, so I don't know what the difference is. It's 4MB smaller though.

Shockwave works pretty well. It wouldn't be my first choice for creating on-line content but as a client it works and it doesn't bork my machine. Uninstalls clean too. Not bad.

Shockwave is a dying format, flash is ok.. and I think javascript will rule them both. Check http://ejohn.org/blog/processingjs/ for examples of how js is taking on many of the areas that were formerly shockwave/flash only..

Well I don't see any 64bit release , if Microsoft pays them then they would make 64bit...
Windows7 comes in 2012 for public release and if other programmers don't make revolutionary software for that, then you might never get what you wish...

tscar13 clearly browses the web with Netscape Communicator 2. For the rest of us who experience the normal bells and whistles of the World Wide Web with a bit more graphical pizazz on a daily basis, Shockwave is both a blessing and a curse, but it is ubiquitous no matter how you look at it.

Just in case: the standalone installer is found in the same web install page.
For those of you who don't want to install things that you don't need, this version comes with a "free installation" of the Yahoo! toolbar.

is very easy overall for use it with Mozilla Firefox

The looks of the program are good. But the functions which have been increased are not up to the standards.
The message histroy storage is a good added feature which is very useful for business descissions.but if we want to delete some part of the descissions it is not possible... we have to loose the whole data..i think this can be changed.the user should have the ability to delete which ever part of the convo he wants to delete.this feature is avaialable in yahoo.
One more feature which we can not get in msn 6 is have a voice conference with more than one person.we can use netmeeting for this but i think this is just complicating the whole process.

I would be interested to know how to get a standalone installer as the rest of you... I know some CD's that have macromedia and shockwave content put out a redistributable so I know it's out there, but I haven't seen a newer / up to date one.

A company that needs me to download this player to view their website does not need my business!!

agree,
the trend to release everything as plugin or webinstaller sucks badly. not only you have to connect to the internet everytime you need the programm, you can't set up more than one pc at once.

dunno why companies think the are doing something good for their users with this kind of policy. people like me, who reinstall windows and stuff very often cost them a lot more traffic this way.

well, directx 9 which was released today is also a webinstaller now... this is teh suck!

I have detect, that Macromedia does not set the "link" at a **standalone** installing file. Thats very Annoying. I am now forced, so every pc must a connection to the internet for install the software.
