I love Aim Ad-Hack. Works as promised and seems pretty consistent with updates.

In response to why I don't use Pidgin or Digsby or the slew of others - they don't offer the interface, options, or features I prefer. I also do not like GTK; and I really dislike having multiple-client buddy lists all on one window.

Jim

Jim reviewed v5.1 Beta 8 on Sep 30, 2006

Great program but I have to give it a 4 because theres now a large white box where I assume the add use to be. Also I'm to afraid of Triton/AOL 6.0 to try installing it without this so I don't know if its a triton bug or something Ad Hack does that makes it unable to stay connected. I know two other people in RL with the same problem - constant disconnects from AIM only with triton.

theheff

theheff reviewed v5.1 Beta 8 on Sep 13, 2006

triton is actually getting much better performance-wise in these latest releases. for some reason, there seemed to be a lot of delays earlier in how it operated, but it seems to be responsive like the older version of aim once again. as far as ad hack, it does what it promises, and does it well!

xcalcoder

Ad Hack is great, it does what it suppose to do. It remove all those junk thats come with AIM Triton. I think AIM Triton is great too, but it's too damn bloat and take too long for it to load. I am going to remove it until it can load faster.

frankwick

frankwick reviewed v5.1 Beta 1 on Jun 1, 2006

I like the new interface of Triton, and I like it better since AdHAck removes all the unneeded junk. Great program!

My complaint is that at bootup, AIM tries to login in while my wireless card is still connecting. Obviously, the autologin fails every morning and I have to connect manually. Why can't AIM wait to login until a network connection is established? I never had this issue with the old 4.x AIM.

~POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO FIXING THE "VALIDATION" SCREEN HANG~

You probably have Nero 7 installed, AND you might have the version 7.0.1.2 upgrade. Go to: ftp://ftp1.usw.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe (Or Nero's site for the upgrade for version 7.0.1.4) Wait for hours till it downloads and installs. Restart your computer or whatnot, and then try AIM Triton.
Please email me at pepanee@hotmail.com and tell me if this solution worked, since it worked for me. But PLEASE email me; I just want to see if this helped people. Thanks!

webcrawler

webcrawler reviewed v5.0 Beta 18 on Jan 31, 2006

I never had a problem with previous releases of Ad-Hack, but this one just will not sign onto AOL. It doesn't go past "validating" during sign on, and does nothing.

amroliwala

amroliwala reviewed v5.0 Beta 18 on Jan 31, 2006

I've had the same problem too. Works on my laptop but not on my desktop. But I think this is an issue with AIM Triton itself, rather than Ad Hack. Even when I try to install the standalone client, I face the same problem. And I recently reformatted my computer, which is when I started experiencing the "Validating" problem on AIM Triton.

This is the reason I use AIM.

I too perfer Trillian/Gaim, but AIM client offers direct conect and encrytion for IMS/CHAT/File transfers. If this program changed their name and web layout, they would be taken more seriously.

As far as AVG detecting, I doubt a product that is free is in a big hurry to make adjustments on false positives with the name, HACK in it.

WhiteZero

WhiteZero reviewed v5.0 Beta 8 on Oct 20, 2005

"Fixed virus scanner false positives"
Bull crap, AVG still complains about it.

EDIT: jordenpro, AVG's virus definitions are used for both the free and the pay versions.

webcrawler

webcrawler reviewed v5.0 Beta 8 on Oct 20, 2005

This is a great piece of software. Although I use Gaim, I do sometimes need to get onto aim to direct-connect or whatnot. I tried trillian several times throughout the past 4 years, and I never came to like it as much as Gaim. In my experience, Gaim uses a lot less resources. Although it's certainly not as aesthetically pleasing as trillian, and is slim on features, it does what I want it to do. If trillian had a 'lite' version which didn't use any skins, I'd use it. I read that the chief developer of Gaim was hired by google, and Gaim 2.0 is a very promising piece of software to look forward to.

OSuser

OSuser reviewed v5.0 Beta 7 on Oct 1, 2005

Are we here to review and comment about this addon or comparing to other programs? This is a "Beta" which the author needed comments/suggestions/bugs and what not. This is an "Addon". Gaim, Trillian are a full program that emulate AIM and other communication programs. This is NOT a topic for comparison. But heck I'm not the Mod so who am I to say? Anyway I like Aim Ad Hack. I've been using since the begining and the Author always updating it which is a good thing. Also it's Free.

lac29

lac29 reviewed v5.0 Beta 7 on Sep 30, 2005

Seriously ... base your judgements on the software itself. It does what it claims, simple as that. It it does it well. For those who use AIM, as a primary IM, this is a great piece of coding to try out. I've been using it for a year now and haven't looked back since. Of course I only use the aim network so why would I bother with gaim, trillian, or miranda?

shockme17

shockme17 reviewed v5.0 Beta 7 on Sep 30, 2005

why not use trillian? ive been a trillian user for 3 years now.. i went on aim to check it out again, and was shocked by all the "bloat" that comes with it now.. not to mention that it takes up at least 5 - 12mb more in memory than trillian. And Trillian is customizable.. looks better, usees less resources, much more functionality.. try it out

NyNe

NyNe reviewed v5.0 Beta 6 on Sep 28, 2005

this program is very effective at what it does but i agree with the previous comment that switching off aim is a much better way to free yourself from common annoyances like ads or addons in regular messenger programs
gaim is nice and all as well, but i prefer trillian, i know for mac there is adium which i hear is good, try looking around, you'll find more than just this

captainpete

captainpete reviewed v5.0 Beta 6 on Sep 27, 2005

I've never used this product before because I've never had to. Why not just save yourself some time and install some software that doesn't require ad removal? I switched to Gaim a while back when AIM started adding all those useless extras to their software. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/ I'm not trying to advertise for the company, I'm just trying to spread the word.

sjc001

sjc001 reviewed v5.0 Beta 6 on Sep 27, 2005

jordenpro

jordenpro reviewed v5.0 Beta 6 on Sep 27, 2005

I rate this product a 5. It does exactly what it's suppose too and works perfectly. It's nice to just down this product, let it grab the aim version it's compatible with and let me choose exactly how I want AIM to look and feel. Honestly, AIM should hire these guys to take over the triton product, after all if this program wasn't out, I wouldn't be an aim user still.

To the trolls: You don't see us laughing at your lame chat client when a upgrade is finally posted on here. For the record any plugin/addon for MSN is detected as spyware by their wonderful spyware product, enjoy that rookies.

Note: "I can't install this. Everytime I go to install it AVG gives me an alert about some Doppler trojan and then the installer crashes." I would goto www.kaspersky.com and run an online scan!

jshrk...get lost.

You might as well go back to your corner and continue crying about the fact that whatever network you use is inferior to AIM.

There are more people on AIM than MSN, ICQ, Yahoo and Jabber.
AIM is updated more often than those four networks' clients combined.
There are more plugins available for AIM than there are for the other clients combined.

Cry...cry...cry.

AIM Ad hack is the best tool for AIM.
Its nice that AIM Triton Support has been built. AIM Triton is of course the future of AIM...so it was necessary. At least they saw that too.

"-AIM Ad Hack only gets a 4 and I'm sticking with my old versions (see oldversion.com) of AIM (5.1.3036) and DeadAIM (3.28).-" -jpmccord

If you do not want to be updated with the security fixes with the new AIM releases, then go ahead use the old versions of AIM, which are less and less compatible with users of newer AIM software.

Use the AIM 5.9 beta release, and the Aim Ad Hack 3.65 program and you should be all good for launch. Personally I haven't really come across any bugs in the 5.9 beta.

AIM Ad Hack has been an excellent program for months and one of the best at doing what it advertises it will do, but until it offers to tab all my IMs in a single window and log my IM conversations in exactly the same way that DeadAIM used to, AIM Ad Hack only gets a 4 and I'm sticking with my old versions (see oldversion.com) of AIM (5.1.3036) and DeadAIM (3.28).

This has been the best of the best, but AIM has pissed me of so much I decide not to even use anything that has to do with there software So I use gaim. Did you know that when the aim 5.9 comes out they are going to charge you for buddy icons.

Bravo to the quick release, and especially with the 5.9 beta released by AOL.

The Return of the King right here.....this program...if you use it enough, you will see how much this program is a necessity to stable and secure IM's. Having AOL add spyware, then fix a 'security issue' is pretty ironic, the only real security issue is the spyware and adware plaguing the messenger.

AIM 5.9 is truely a supreme program and what should be used more often by any user to truely solve the 'security issue'. Again, another hand goes out to Cuban-Aftermath Software for their great, quick, and free coding skills (long live spyware removal).

Thank you for this release! The ads and junk in the newest aim beta were really starting to get annoying. This program is amazing, it takes all the junk out of the "normal" aim client, making it much easier to use.

Vanilla Aim is the best right now when you use Aim Ad Hack, that's where you want it. And especially since Aim Ad Hack removes spyware, and after looking on Aimutation's website I couldn't find that their program removed spyware and adware which I think is the most important part of this program.

Productivity comes first........ and Aim Ad Hack delivers, making AIM usable again.

this is a good program if you want to use vanilla AIM(plain AIM) but another program does this also and adds a whole lot more features such as skinning chat logging and support for plugins that add extra smilies and alow you to control winamp. Its called AIMutation. www.aimutation.com . completley free

Great program! I did, however encounter an odd problem that should be addressed. I use WeatherBug and I would like to keep it. During AimHack setup I told the program that I didn't need/want WeatherBug (I already had it installed). Sadly, after installing AimHack it had deleted WeatherBug from my system forcing me to reinstall. Perhaps a warning/choice could be given to keep WeatherBug if already installed?

Now that I see it without the blank space left from removing games and aim.com I dont think it looks bland anymore so theres no need to keep the AIM logo above the buddy list in place of ads. So 5 stars :)

bscabl

bscabl reviewed v3.58 Beta on Apr 17, 2004

the new version [to be released today] gives you choices on what to remove [spyware?] and a choice on cloning, and a coice on the aimtoday and stuff

the multiple login thing we have no control over on the software end, thats aol's servers, and its annoying when im logged in from my cellphone and forget to log out before i log in @ home :(

cmuehter

cmuehter reviewed v3.58 Beta on Apr 16, 2004

Does what it says. I love it and will continue to update as they come out. I would like to see if you could get rid of that damn annoying multiple login screen popping up. I would rather see that I was logged out at work then having this damn pop-up every so often. Keep up the good work.

GeneralLeoFF

GeneralLeoFF reviewed v3.58 Beta on Apr 16, 2004

Works well but it makes aim look rather bland. Wish rather then removing the ad window it just disabled the ad and had AIM show the AIM logo there all the time. Also wish it would not remove the harmless aim.com and games buttons. I like to disable aim.com but every now and then I do like to look and see whats there. Do that and i'll give it 4 stars. remove all data related to the AIM video ad stuff and i'll give it 5.

i didnt make the program to work in conjunction with deadaim or any other addon... so no, it may not work with them.. deal..
i also didnt make it to remove the 2 bottom buttom bars... i made it to remove the ads.. and it does...
i added the removal of the aol.com button in the last version because it annoys me when they drop aol icons on my desktop and startmenu..
i designed it to do one thing effectivly, remove the ads..and it does [assuming your running the right version]...
any problems are therefor your own problem

AIM ad-hack 3.5 installed and worked properly for AIM 5.5.3572 final with nothing else installed like deadAIM but for one you should not expect it to work with other AIM modifying apps

Somnambulator

Somnambulator reviewed v3.5 on Feb 6, 2004

maybe it's just the enwest beta, 3572, but this program doesnt removes the bottom 2 bars. i realize that they aren't "ads" per say, but every AIM ad-removal program i've seen so far at least has options to removes those bars. i uninstalled and went back to middle_man, which i use exclusively for the ad removal.
