Why? There's far better out there and you don't need to be a programmer to benefit from them. (Notepad2 w/Code Folding FTW!!!!)

Sorry to disagree, but Metapad is still superior. BDV will not render RTF files - Metapad will. Other than that, they are similar.

BDV is THE text editor for non-programmers. Metapad is the only other notepad substitute that even comes close.
BDV provides an amazing number of features coupled with extremely low impact on system resources. It is rock steady, even on WinME (& that's saying a lot), plus it loads in the blink of an eye. POWER in a small package!

Very nice, but Notepad2 still has my allegance because of syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages. Not only is it easier to find things at a glance, but it helps in debugging by poiting out missing quotes or brackets. And its also completely customizeable. http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

It just replaced MetaPad as my default text editor. The sticky search bar and the new Character Filter put it over the top. Thanks Denis!

The best of Notepad replacement and it's a freeware.
Believe me.

OK, there are a ton of decent Notepad replacements out there. I believe BDV Notepad is well within the top 5% because it runs from 1 file, is very small and quick, has good keyboard shortcuts, is very configurable, and has several unique features features. This one is a real keeper. I wish for a trash filter to clean up high bit ASCII characers (such as ÐÑÒÓÖØÙÜÝß)found in many TXT files.

It is really one of the best free notepad! The friendly standard interface does not require accustoming, and set of additional functions will not leave you indifferent.
