Works ok on my XP setups, though it is not as stable or easy for me to use as Utorrent.

Still, for basic stuff, this version is better than Azureus, at least for me.

Finally the crashing on exit has been fixed! My favorite torrent app. Everything else is just too bloated.

I used this until the end of last year. It old then, and it had been old for some time before then. The author keeps promsing a new interface, but at this point I don't see any reason to go on with it. There are tons of established clients that are simply better than 'Tornado, and the author will have to play a lot of the catch-up game. Why bother?

I prefer uTorrent, but if that's not your thing, there are many other clients out there that are better than this. It's buggy, old, and inefficient. Let it die.

THREE years ago I praised this program as the best BitTorrent program. The LIGHT was a genious idea. Piece selection was radical! Rate limiting was smart! Heck, it even INVENTED super-seeding.

As far as I'm concerned he hasn't done anything to this program in that time. It looks exactly the same.

though i have little experience in BitTornado,i can see that it is quite fast. however,i find that the interface is not very organised. i like its old school look, but the info isnt displayed very well and there are little features it seems. i am not one to judge this client due to my lack of experience in using it,but from my little knowledge,i believe that uTorrent is a better client

http://www.slyck.com/news.php?story=1117 read this article on slyck.com U torrent is an average client nothing special. it might have better guis but not as fast as bit tornado 3.15. U torrent is also sold out to anti p2p people having a french company PeerFactor, which was a subsidiary of French anti-piracy group RetSpan. wow bit tornado is much more fast and much more secure than u torrent. I suggest the u torrent fanatics read slyck more ofter before they berate bit tornado. i hate to have the mpaa or their cousins dutch wannabe brein come knocking on my door because of the bit torrent client I used aka u torrent. I used u torrent personnally it sucked. bit tornado rules

BitTornado is old school. It works ok but it's pretty hard to use it with uTorrent and Azureus available.

Azureus is the best client although it uses to much memory and slows my computer down. Mainly the need for Java which is horrible on windows. uTorrent is newer and lighter weight client which doesn't use java, it's probably the best windows client.

Both utorrent and AZ have added encryption in the endless game of cat and mouse with isp and networks trying to block torrent traffic.

To the idiots bashing utorrent: the client is not the determining factor in how fast you download, it's your connection.

And I have never had utorrent crash on me even ONCE and I've been using it since version 1.0

Though i have tried BitTornado and it crashed on the first time i started it.

Just because utorrent's light doesn't mean it's lightweight.

Changes:
still no new GUI, been working on the engine
resume w/ disabled files fixed
tracker crashing bug fixed
security added to prevent clients from
exploiting super-seed

Agreed, uTorrent is not as stable nor as fast as this client, the interface is the only thing I find worth liking from that client.

ecjs go to your utorrent and get lost, don't comment other clients if you like that lightweight crap client.

This client is very good better than Utorrent.

0.3.14a seems to have fixed the issue i was having with 0.3.13 sticking in the process list after closing torrents, so i'm sticking with this version over 0.3.12. it's working great!

it's not just for beginners. there's not much more you need to do with a torrent, so since it does what a client should do, it gets a good score. saying it's just for beginners is like saying windows explorer is for beginners comparing it to xplorer^2. not everyone needs the extra features; it doesn't make them a beginner.

of course, it's not perfect, so no five-star rating here.

I like tornado but it only does so much. Its great for a beginer using bittorrents. Thats about all its good for is beginners. I'll use it once ina while but not that ofetn anymore. there are better torrent clients out there.

For those of you looking for a better client GUI wise, use ABC. It uses the Bittorndado engine, but has queing, multiple torrents in one window, and more. Light memery use too.

I'm only rating this a 3 because of the GUI and one window per torrent, which is why there's ABC.

My personal favorite is uTorrent though.

bit tornado has been my favorite bt client yet. it's got a great 'no fluff' thing going for it, and it's really easy for when i introduce someone who's new to bt. i have tried others, but most are either very buggy or have way too much clutter and not enough function for the average user. it would be nice, however, if they made an app that was just like tornado but all torrents would be enclosed into one window.

however, 0.3.13 brings back the memory bug that was present in earlier versions of the program. torrents will remain in system memory (and sometimes even multiply!) after they are closed. i was lucky enough to still have 0.3.12 on my pc, so i reverted back. hopefully the author addresses this issue in the next version. till then, i'll keep the instal file for 0.3.12 handy.

This is a fantastic program. If you want a simple, straightforward BitTorrent application, this is it. (The Offical Client comes close, but Tornado excels in a few areas).

Yes, the GUI isn't great but it gets the job done. Plus, a new GUI is on the way.

Recommended.

Large installation (vs. BitComet) and memory footprint (on par with Azureus). If you have the resources, Azureus may be a better bet as it is far more stable.

I have used this to seed music, exclusively. for over a year now. Up until these last 2 versions (0.3.9x) it was definitley the best for its purpose. I have had nothing but problems since I installed it. I would give it 5 stars thru 0.3.8, but now now. Get back to work, guys!

Domingo

Domingo reviewed v0.3.9 on Dec 16, 2004

Does what it's supposed to, but it drains resources and I don't care for the UI.
As always, I reocmmend DL'ing this program, Azureus, and BitComet. Use all 3 and see which UI you like the best as they're all solid clients. BitTornado is the fastest once it gets going, BitComet uses the fewest resources and starts the fastest, and Azureus is stable, fast, and unique. I personally use BitComet, but it's more of a personal preference than thinking the other two aren't as good.

borisf98

borisf98 reviewed v0.3.9 on Dec 16, 2004

Plus: Probably the fastest bittorrent client.
Minus: Takes too much resources and uses hard drive way too often. Also you better download file in one swoop. Hash-checking of partly downloaded file may take up to an hour with freezing your computer for everything else.
BitComet will do the same task in 3-4 minutes tops.

please, elaborate on what a "professional" torrenter is

MHJ

MHJ reviewed v0.3.9 on Dec 16, 2004

Simply the best if you are a professional torrenter.
Some anti virus programs cause Tornado to freeze, like Panda or NOD32, but this can be solved by creating 1 dir for all torrents and exclude it from permanent protection. AVG AntiVirus doesn't have this problem but many others as i said. Multi-Torrent Clients are for leechers and lazy people, i don't like bloatware though.

MMPD

MMPD reviewed v0.3.9 on Dec 16, 2004

Good program overall, as the previous post said it gets the job done. Personnaly tho, I perfer Azureus.

If ya want a program that can download torrents quickly, without any glitches use this one. :)

petgamer

petgamer reviewed v0.3.8 on Dec 1, 2004

Very simple program. It gets the job jone and I'm very pleased with the program. No having to worry about extra clutter. Clean interface and runs smoothly. Only thing is, it uses a bit too much memory but it's still a good client to use.

Domingo

Domingo reviewed v0.3.8 on Oct 28, 2004

Eelfinn

Eelfinn reviewed v0.3.7 on Jul 25, 2004

Very good download rates, uncluttered user interface, and easy installation make this my first choice. Still uses lots of memory, if available. Has no multiple-download UI, but that's just as well IMO.
