I use alot of freeware but I rarely write comment on anyone. But I really want to write a comment on CD check..coz it really work! I got a VCD which has a serious scratch mark what had been done by my 1.6 year old son (well he just played the VCD like UFO..nothing much) and his most favorite Elmo VCD could not be read at all. I used a lot of freeware or shareware, trying to convert or copy to my PC..all said they were the best however the VCD still couldnt pass through and kept loading on the scratch mark. But when I used CD Check, it successfully read the VCD and copied to my PC without hanged! Thanks BN you really do a good job! and It is Free!

I picked it up because I just received a DVP for
xmas, & had a loved anime series burned on about 50 Cdr's.
I wanted to load them back to my pc to create long play file DVD's all in avi format to play on my DVP to watch on tv.
10 dvd's beats the hell out of 50 cdr's..lol
Well I ran into several discs with read errors & that sucked.
Now i would have an incomplete series.

This great app rescued my video files.
As I write this review I am loading my rescued avi files to dvd..
This is a must have app..

CDCheck 3.1.14.0 is available on CDCheck website.

Comment: This version brings only a few small changes. The most important are probably better default settings for buffers which should speed up CDCheck.

List of changes in 3.1.14.0:
* new better default buffer settings
* languages added / improved
* when entering registration code spaces are ignored
* when using /gcompare reference directory can also be specified
+ wav handling string appended (not yet supported when checking)
- fixed a small bug in hash error reporting
- saved items history now accepts zero (no history)

Get you lazy a** dumba** and look at cdcheck website to get free license !!! Its awesome program, if you burn cd's you'll need this without doubt ! It have hash making and checking of file on cd, comparing with source bit after bit so you exactly know that your cd is error free and is 1:1 copy of iso or files on hdd! As already said, you can get free license for a life time :D I have used this program already for years, its must be for everyday burning, check (compare) your cd before you delete it from hdd !!!

Yes, it is freeware, timeout not withstanding. You must license it after 30 days, but there is a FREE license option for personal use. To quote the website:

"If you decide not to purchase a license, you should request Free license from CDCheck ONLINE!"

This is an unusual policy, surely, but not an entirely unheard of one, and not one that would justify a minimal rating, for the application is quite good at what it does.

This program is a real freeware, it's just after 30 days you have to get a free registration code on the site.
And it's really a great program, perfect to see if the cd will have reading problems, which is really useful for audio cds you will use for parties for example.

I have used for quite a while and like the program. As has been stated before it does what it does and no more. As for licensing and such, I am still using the version prior to this one, and after the 30 days all I did was answer a question that popped up, and it is free for personal use only. No problems at all.

I give it a "1" because the fonts display as inscrutably tiny on my system. I've never seen such a thing before.

Does what it claims, but no more : when it says your data has turned corrupted, there is nothing to be done to repair it, even with all the hash files computed before. (some tools do it, but are quite unstable)

BTW, I found it more user friendly and stable than many other similar tools.

Is it just me or the executable downloaded gives you an error when you try to open it up. I tried it on winxp and win2000 machine. But I downloaded the zip file from their site and it works fine.

It's 5 mainly for freeware program. if they downgrade it to even shareware/adware, this will go straigth to bin as many prog. do the same thing, MD5Sum is the best and even give more reliability.

This is a great piece of software, but from the information posted on the home website, this current version would appear to be quite buggy and for testing purposes only. Download the previous version to try - don't download this beta to try and then whinge about how it doesn't work for you! Make sure you download the previous version if you want a working copy. Otherwise, this is excellent - please keep up the good work!

Great little program, found errors in a CD i thought was fine, a very important backup CD I have. It was able to restore most of the problem files, and I was able to fix the rest manually. The problems could have got worse as time went on, luckily I had this program. By the way, the shot on betanews is OLD.

I make copies of my original CD installation programs just like I did when I used only floppies (dated, or what?). You know the feeling you get when you're trying to recover from a 3-CD set of Ghost Backup disks, only to find that halfway through the 3rd CD, you get a CDR101 error? How about me, two weeks ago.
Wish I'd had this program then. I just now d/l, and tried it, comparing files from a CD Install disk I copied to my H/D, with a Copy CD in my CD-Rom. It does what it says it does, and quickly. I'm hoping it's not lying, because it told me I had no errors. I feel a LOT more confident about having to use the copy for reinstallation.
Great little program with no installation files, just drop the unzipped folder in Program Files and make a shortcut to wherever.
