Publisher's Description

CDisplay Comic Reader was written to ease the reading of comics with the pages in JPEG format. This was partly down to the existing programs currently available being too general purpose and thus awkward to use when simply wanting to read a comic. It is important to understand that this program has no file write capabilities; files are left totally untouched. A small amount of configuration data is written to the registry but apart from that the computer and its data is left totally untouched.

Not a lot of features in this comic reader, it doesn't get updated often, but it is absolutely my favorite comic reader by far of all windows comic readers I've seen so far. I do wish it had gesture control for wen i'm reading remotely via an ipad via splashtop or remote desktop, but ah well. I still like this reader the best so far.

Have used CDisplay 1.82 for several years.... it's GREAT.
1) Tried ComicRack but it requires .NET 4.0 framework install on your PC or it won't function properly. If you think it's practical to use a Saturn-V rocket to travel to the grocery store, then ComicRack is the reader you want.
2) Tried Comical and it works nicely but it won't open some files that I have and throws an error message.
3) Tried STDU Viewer and it works nicely but is not designed for smooth flow of pages and is challenged at doing this while keeping the comic pages aligned accurately.
BOTTOM LINE: CDisplay opens every single comic file I have with no errors and I have never had alignment problems....it's very simple, and does exactly what it is intended to do. Yes, you could get ComicRack and drive some thumbtacks with a sledgehammer, but CDisplay wins in the simplicity/reliability department.

CDisplay is very good, I've been using it for a while now. It's a shame it's out of development. There is however an in-development alternative called QManga. It's not quite there yet in terms of features, but I suggest anyone to try it out. http://qmanga.wordpress.com/

CDisplay was the first Comic Reader.

Not developed for years there are now much better alternatives available (like ComicRack http://comicrack.cyolito.com).

By far the best.

Note:
CBR files are made by scanning in comic book pages as JPG files which are selected and compressed using Winrar or Winzip (for convenience, not to save space). The extension is simply renamed so that the file can be associated with the CDisplay program.

*.zip -> *.cbz

*.rar -> *.cbr

CDisplay's default settings are near perfect. You might change the mouse settings, and I recommend choosing a suitable "Height" as the method of viewing your comics. Many other readers show the whole page which is too small to enjoy or have intrusive menu bars.

CDisplay was rewritten to CDisplayEX. I don't know why because this original is better.

What the other review said is exactly how I feel. The best thing about this program is that it can read right out of an archive. With this little feature I can save tons of space by keeping all my images RARed up and just opening them with this nifty program. If you haven't tried it yet, please do so. If you have, make sure you have the latest version!
