great program

Doesn't work on newer Intel motherboards because they use EFI.

totally unnecessary in 2011 all features built in latest bios and cpu if not go and buy used but modern motherboard for 15 $ ,
THIS NOT BETA just writed to 64 bit for 4 years old program.
Dear BN, why put here?

It's no surprise that on tech-oriented software sites, where people actually know what they're doing, this software is rated at nearly 5/5.

Why? Well, uh, duh... My board NOMINALLY has CPU fan control built in, but it is literally USELESS. It doesn't do squat to the fan speeds, and is thus useless for noise control. This "feature" is built into the BIOS and has nothing to do with any utility from the board manufacturer that I could run under Windows.

SpeedFan? I can't use it because when I run it along with Avira AntiVir, my system freezes constantly. I don't know which is at fault, or if it is a compatibility issue that defies blame, but I'm absolutely certain of it: On my system, SpeedFan + AntiVir = FREEZES. The SpeedFan author can't/won't find/fix this problem. And no, I am not getting rid of AntiVir.

CPUCooL is the only alternative to SpeedFan that I have found. The interface is ridiculous, but the functionality is there. My only real complaint--other than the silly interface for the program's settings--are that it tends to use a ridiculous amount of CPU time (which is somewhat ironic, since CPU usage is what causes it to heat up...).

Why?
Fan Control:
If you have fan speed control for your motherboard then you will have software that come on your MOBO CD or download from the MOBO site so you won't require this.

Temperature and fan speed display:
There are several free programs that will do this.

If there's a reason why you aren't happy with your Motherboard software then there are free programs including "Speedfan" which will serve your needs.

This program is a waste of money.

You can get rid of the reporting and stuff which others do better IMO but the PCUCooler service runs without any problem, using almost no memory, and takes CPU temps down at least 8-10C.

I've used CPUCool forever and wouldn't be without it on a high performance rig.

"A program that runs to make the CPU Idle ?? Thats the stupidest thing i ever heard of..."

Now that's the stupidest thing ~I~ have ever heard. I'll try and dumb this down so you can understand... There's idling, then there's idling without making the cpu work. Microsoft can't be bothered to care about your cpu running at full possible heat production constantly, unlike linux/freebsd/etc..., so this tool, and others like it, do.

My overclocked dual p3 rig, for instance, would be running 110-120F rather than the 75-85F it runs while sitting idle without a good HLT cooler.

The lesson here is: If you know not whereof you speak, your mouth is best used for chewing.

Program installed without an issue, required a reboot. After reboot I tried to start the program via the desktop shortcut and it hard locked my machine. Program was running on a Dell Dimension 4600.

Program also uninstalled without an issue after reboot :-)

Tried it like 2 years ago and it never did anything more than heatsink can do...

before on my desktop, my CPU was too hot, and i used this (version 5 I think) and it really helped me, because the windows 2k/XP idle doesn't do that much EVEN it said idle my CPU ws like always 70+ degrees sometimes 80+ (celcius) that thing brougt it down to 30 (until one day the weather killed it.. lightening..)but now .. it's getting more and.. more complicated.. I liked the good old one.

This program couldn't recognise my Intel chipset or CPU (Celeron.) I think it might require a bit more work before it's released. The idea's quite good but it's back to the drawing board, I feel. It told me that I had twice as many SDRAM banks as I actually have, for instance.

Hello Mr. Podien,
first I must say -thx-, that the people can use your software without restrictions. But I dont read here in the description, "what's new" into this BETA version.
Under WIN2000 it works not effective, my temperatur was stand to 52°C - identical whether without or with CPU cool

No offense to the writer as he is doing a good job, but when you can use a program like MBProbe which is about a 70K download and has support for WinXP/2000/NT/98 and is freeware, uses minimal resources and supports oddball chipsets like my SiS 735, why pay for and use his?

Dirk van Hoofen

Dirk van Hoofen reviewed v7.1.4 on Oct 25, 2002

Under WIN2000 and XP you need none CPU-Cooling software because this Operating systems has this function(s) build IN !
This systems make automatically the HLT-command, if the CPU work not or IDLE.

CPU Cool is here therefore superfluous.

This program isn't terribly bad, but it does need some work. It's crashed my system before and I really didn't see any benefits to having it installed on my machine. Improve it more, and I'll attempt to try it out again.

ck42

ck42 reviewed v7.0.10 on Jan 28, 2002

The interface needs some work...it's not terrible but finding things sometimes is a chore.

Previous version locked up my system with the KT266A m/b.
This one seems to be working ok. Reduces temp from 42C idle to 28C idle. This is about what I expect based on my other systems using diff. m/b's and cpus.
But, the only way to get that temp drop on the 266A m/b is to use the the FORCE AMD cooling option..which makes me a little nervous about my sound being affected using this option.
Otherwise, it's a decent app. Would give it a 3.5 if I could.

Reduces cpu idle temp 5°-8° does any other prog do that with a kt266a?

The program isn't that bad.. it's just there are better program's around. I don't see the use of some options Motherboard Monitor doesn't have.. oh well I'll stick 2 MBM, maybe others think this is the bomb.. just keep in mind MBM is free and this proggy isn't..

I had originally praised this program over MBM5.X, but im beginning to have second thoughts, the program doesnt seem to be programmed to well, i have a friend who tells me he has to enter his registration # everytime he uses it. That said, I will not be registring this product, Motherboard Montior does it for free, and that is my .02

Well, this is my first time using this program and I like it. This is the only soft cpu cooling program that I know of works with the AMD K7 series CPUs.

Seems like a nice enough program, despite the fact that it doesn't support my laptop's chipset. One BIG problem (and something a lot of programs do, which annoys me greatly) is that the uninstaller does not remove the stupid NT service along with the rest of the program. Why this program needs a service, I have no clue, but it should at least remove it when I uninstall. Now I'm stuck with a useless service that I'll never run, cluttering up my service list.

CPUIdle + Motherboard monitor is a better solution. The fact that it shows a graph of variation over the time is nice tough. BTW, Motherboard monitor is real freeware!

As in the Windows 2000 version, another pretty good program. However, the relief of electrical currents on the transistors is not the same as CPU IDLE which you could find on the web. Not bad to keep track of voltage and data transferring through the integrated circuits. Not so good to help you decrease stress on the transistors.

This program is excellent except for a few flaws. it does not take up as much memory as some of those other coolers do. i used the beta version and it does not always save the setting that you save. There are several typos in the program. with a little clean up this program would be top rate. I just can not seem to save the settings. only some of them get save others do not. anyway it is worth downloading. the best feature i think is the memory freer. i tried some of the other ones and they take up more memory trying to free the stuff!
