I DL this when it was much newer than this; not nearly as nice as it is now. It's gotten much better since then. The inbox concept is different and I think they have better direction now.

I found this when I was looking to switch off of Outlook. My main issue is that this has been very slow in development. Updates don't come regular enough, but I encourage them to keep going, it looks great!

This is an OK calendar program, but the glaring deficiency for this PIM is the absence of contact management. Look to Time & Chaos for a real PIM.

What a bunch of baloney ! The idea that this is revolutionary is a joke. Try it and see. This thing is as outdated as Mitch Kapoor (who funded it out of his pocket and who "leads" the "team"). Look at the developers - a bunch of losers headed by an incompetent egoist. No wonder it is really nothing after all the hype.

A nice beginning and usable for people who don't already have something better, but it's so ridiculous to suggest that this competes with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange that the project FAQ itself states: "Chandler is not a full-fledged email client. Do not expect to be able to replace your current email application..."

Did you, I dunno, go to the website and do any actual RESEARCH about the product? You clearly didn't, otherwise you would have mentioned that this is shaping up to be a fully opensource replacement to Outlook, Exchange Servers, and many of the other more advanced features of Outlook that most other mail clients, particularly the free ones (I'm looking at you, Thunderbird) are woefully lacking in.

Thus, your uninformed review is pointless and moot.

As always, positive downloading and testing - but the question soon came sneaking: "so what". I can't find anything remotely close to "potentially revolutionary" in this program, same "hour set-up" of day events as last year ... It would be potentially revolutionary if it had a combination of hour defined events and events in general that just had a deadline that day (day, not hour priority) - and combined with general tasks not related to hours or dates, but to priority. Most have that mixture of tasks in their real life, and I guess all would like know about all these in one window rather than having a separate program or setup for each. At least that would give a more reasonable reason for using a word as revolutionary. That just being one example, still I give Chandler one point for being open source, and a second for the name Chandler which makes me think about Philip Marlowe going around asking himself "so what?"

Seems like a promising start to a potentially revolutionary (yes, a complete open source alternative to Outlook would be potentially revolutionary) app. Frankly, I remember the infancy of Phoenix (what we now know of as Firefox) being just as buggy and hard to really enjoy using.

The interface is a good start, but needs some really QA. Also, when I run the program in full screen on my 1920X1440 resolution monitor, the UI doesn't even stretch all the way.

The menus are indecipherable.

The colors are amateurish.

The idea is noble, and, with proper investment and community support, this could be a great app.

First, I have agree with Tasty about the *drastic* need for some designer or artistic input. Visually, aside from it basic skeleton layout (which I do like), it looks horrible. I am typically the last person to care about appearances, but even I can only barely tolerate looking at this interface. (And why does everyone insist on following Microsoft's awful example of using washed-out colors? Give me "real" fuchsia, not its very distant cousin!) The ability to resize some panes is entirely lacking. And in those panes, longer entries simply cannot be fully displayed.

And for now, it remains pretty much unusable [to me] because there is no ability to either have e-mails removed from the server after a specified period of time, or when deleted locally. I get lots of e-mail and that kills it immediately for me. So although the developer is clearly very bright and able to create something that could be very different from all else out there I've seen, to miss that one seems a "Duh!"

It's footprint is humongous -- 75 MB on the system I'm currently using. I may be mistaken, but that more than Outlook even! However, it doesn't begin to have the bloat of Outlook. So, why is it currently the biggest resource hog (aside from my professional statistics packages) on my computer?

And why in the d***ens am I being given Amazon and Flickr as part of the package. (Okay, I can see how some might like and use the incorporated Flickr.) Quite frankly, it makes me think there is some sort of clandestine corporate connection that either or both do not yet wish to acknowledge.

But to not entirely pan what I do think is something that is quite possibly revolutionary, I do very much like what I see as a start -- aside from the expressed doubts and questions. One day, and hopefully soon, this could take over for Outlook very easily. And if some of Thunderbird's tricks, bells, and whistles could be incorporated, it has a very excellent chance of replacing both Outlook and Thunderbird on at least one of my systems.

This is a case where I wish FileForum allowed more than a singular rating. I'd give it a 5 for concept, but then a 1 for first appearances and the lack of some very basic features. Therefore, I average it all out to a 3.

For now, I'll uninstall it -- and then look to see how much "damage" it did to the registry. On the other hand, I am placing it on my watch list. But if this doesn't win people over immediately to at least some degree, I must place fault with someone forgetting that first impressions can make or break a product. Personally, I would not have released it until the first impression could have been more positive for all who gave it a look and run around the block.

(Hmmm...let's see now: "A Tale of Two Cities," by Charles d***ens) Yep, stupid computer censorship. It even made the D lower-case. Duh.)

Addendum: It would not properly uninstall. As much as I hate to do it, that brings my first rating of it down to a 1. And, I'm removing from my watch list for at least six months. I do not have time for apparently some quite sloppy work to be thrown out there and placed [by me, of course] on my systems. (Flame away!)

5 stars for the effort wich is very promising for a pre ver.1 release. Elegant GUI and tones of functionality and good integration of various/different features.

Who cares what you call Chandler, this one is going to be a winner, ie Chandler is a HANDLER! As opposed to trying to be an Outlook knock-off/clone like Essential PIM, Chandler is its own animal . . . smaller, easier to use, faster, and intuitive. Email setup was a snap, click on the calendar, set a date, snap, delete an item, hit DEL, snap, gone, and so on and so on. Guys, you've got a winner. Keep it up. I like the UI, so friendly and inviting . . . not the cluttered, ooo-eee gooey GUI Outlook has become. Bloat. Good riddance. Hello Chandler! BTW. Love the name. To each his/her own.

Edit: all is well again. Infantile review was removed. As good as this app already is, it still has lots of potential remaining.

To the moron above me. RATE THE PROGRAM!!!! Giving a program a low rating without even tryng it, what kinda bull is that????

You wannna continue to give Microssoft $800 dollars just because Outlook is a cooler name than Chandler? You know most open source applications change their name long before they get to version 1.0 (Ever heard of Firefox?)
