Publisher's Description

DVD43 is a free DVD decrypter that runs in the background and decrypts DVDs on the fly. It will decrypt (unlock) a movie DVD so that your copy program can read it. It is a pure decrypter, it does not alter the image of the original DVD and will not remove copy protection (other than CSS encryption) added to the DVD. If the DVD structure is non standard or the DVD contains bad sectors, your copy program needs to take care of that.

It is much easier for DRM to be relatively impervious in 64-bit Windows. DVD43 came up with this stopgap method buy I believe DirectShow now operates as a kernel mode API and so video cannot be sampled off a DVD like original DVD43 did so well.

Anyhow, here's their link to the best effort: http://www.free-codecs.c...?d=5753&s=136&r= . This is DVD43 v1.0.0.5 and it's old. Make sure you are burning with "burnproof" and/or "simulate mode" on first, or just do a dry run before each title with a DVD-RW.

DVD43 is great, except for some new movies and Disney movies.

When all else fails, try 'Handbreak' it's free, and will rip a movie at it's very core. It will do it to a file, make sure it's a MP4, then use Nero Vision or DVD Flick(free) to burn to DVD.

I've used this method to backup some of my daughters Disney movies, which normally will not be copied by anything.

I have been using DVD43 for many years now. And I found a way enabling you not to make anymore dvd coasters!!! (failed copies)
After you copy the movie, and BEFORE you load the blank dvd...click on DVD43 and EXIT it BEFORE putting in your blank dvd!!!! DVD43 doesn't need to check a blank DVD, so disable it, and you shouldn't have any more problems. I have been doing this for months now and no more coasters.

I had mostly no problems with most DVDs except for Casino Royale, could not ever break the decryption and errored out each time. If someone can look at this and respond I'd like to hear the outcome.. But for 90+% of DVDs Ihad success.. It'd be nice to see why the newer DVD had issues.. Will this be something that will affect all DVDs from this point forward..

Even if the little face is green. I've been trying all day. I wasted 3 blanks. I read somewhere on a review that it doesn't work on sony or pairamont movies. That's bull! I had similar probs to other reviewers/discussions, with computer lock-ups. I run XP and used Nero Showtime to copy a dvd. Dvd43 dealt with copy protection and Nero copied an image successfully but then locked up about halfway through the burn process. I tried this several times with the same results.
I then repeated the process, but this time I uninstalled Dvd43 (using Revo Uninstaller) after Nero had copied an image but BEFORE Nero burnt the blank dvd - and this worked. This may indicate Dvd43 is somehow interfering with Nero's burn process. It just means installing/uninstalling Dvd43 each time I want to copy a dvd, strictly for back-up purposes of course.

I've used DVD43 for several yeras, first with WindowsXP then with Vista, and I've had virtually nothing but success with it. Now I have just upgraded the OS to Windows7, and see that DVD43 does not work on a 64-bit system. Any idea when it will, or what other program would be a good substitute for it until it can be run on a 64-bit system?

The latest DVD43 ver 4.60 is the worst upgrade of all previous versions because it couldn't decode any of the current movies that I purchased for backup. Even DVD Decrypter, which didn't work in the past, was able to decode current movies. Something must be terribly wrong with the new version, i.e. something must have been left out because it couldn't get past 8%. I hope the developers would seriously look into this problem before loyal supporters like me migrate to other software developers on the market. Thanks.

Sluggutch

I used DVD43 to copy my DVDs for years on a computer that ran Windows Xp, with very few problems. A year or so ago, it began to become outdated, making quite a few mistakes on both old and new movies..

I had to buy a new HP laptop that runs 32-bit Windows Vista. Although the current version of DVD43 says it will also work with this version of Windows Vista, it showed that it had been installed, with the little smiley faces working as described, but attempting to start the program was impossible. The green faces remained green, but nothing else happened.

I attempted to install DVD43 on an old computer that also runs Windows Xp and got the same result--program installed, but it won't initialize.

I tried several of the suggestions on this site--nothing.

Any suggestions?

God when are they ever going to make a Vista 64 bit version? I am half tempted to wipe my Vista 64 OS back to XP Pro 32. Why because Vista Sucks period, let alone the 64 bit version. Yeah it looks nice, but has serious issues when it comes to wanting programs. I have a new HP laptop which I online game on. This laptop would be great if it was XP. It has more power then my old desktop, which was the maxed out 64bit single core AMD, on an Asus A7n8x Delux MB.
I need DVD43 to unlock my drive for Divx to convert movies straight from my dvd rom. Gah this is a complete nightmare. Let alone to get my 1Click DVD Copy Pro to run. Please hurry up and fix this.

Sincerely,

DVD43 is GREAT!!! I have used it to try to unlock the security protection on literally HUNDREDS of DVD's and I would say it has a success rate of over 95%. From the oldest to the newest DVD's, this software can handle almost anything that is thrown at it. And with the release of DVD43.4.4.1, I'm sure that it's success rate will only improve. Thanks for keeping it FREE!!! There should be more software that is this useful available to the common man without costing him an arm and a leg.

Hey Download DVD Decrypter you are spamming Betanews with the same message. Click on his username and you will see all his reviews are the same. Spammer and scammer.

DVD43 and RipIt4ME are both good FREE DVD ripping tools but if you want really good DVD rippers you're going to have to PAY. Slysoft AnyDVD HD or DVDFAB Platinum HD are both excellent, constantly updated and well-known. I have used both for several years. DVDFAB is better for noobs since it is more user-friendly than Slysoft.

By far the BEST! For those of us still using XP, the #1 duo for video duplication is the combination of DVD43 and 1CLICKDVDCOPYPRO. There is only one star in Hollywood that has managed to screw things up, but naturally being such a political person as "SHE" is, you'd think she'd pass her knowledge on how to beat this combo on! DVD43 works without flaws on my WIndows XP3 with 1 Click DVD Copy Pro.

What I found were bad DVD's, cheaply made. Verbatim and TDK are selling horrific knock off Dual Layer DVD's. I wish I had more choices, but Sony DL worked perfectly, no errors or stalled video sections on playback.

I'm hoping WIndows 7 doesn't make the same mistakes as Vista.

DVD43 runs okay with win xp sp3 and Nero 7 Ultra using a Memorex DVD+-R 510Lv1 16x drive.

Tips:
1) With Nero 7 Ultra & DVD 43, I found the best way to clone or copy the encrypted DVD is to use the image writer to copy entire DVD to a hard drive folder.

2) To avoid Errors when writing to a DVD or CD, before opening Nero or inserting bland media, first right click the DVD43 tray icon and 'Exit'.

3) I've created both a complete DVD on a DL 8.5GB disk and a main movie (no menus) on a standard 2 hour disk.

A nit: when I installed DVD43, the installer puts a shortcut on my desktop even though I told it NOT to do that during intall dialog.

I have tried more than one disc and the same thing happens. Not only that but then my computer freezes and I have to hard boot the system. All software and drivers are up to date so that is not the problem. Can't seem to get anyone to address or acknowledge the problem. benitus

benitus reviewed v4.3.1 on Jul 29, 2008

DVD43 is the only software that can work with a minimum of fuss and challenges. However, the movie producers are also coming up with new tricks that wll prevent access to their movies, so I'm glad that DVD43 does keep up with such innovations, or else we will be wasting our time trying to make it work. But I feel that they aren't working fast enough to keep up with these innovations. For example, College Road Trip was inaccessible but with the update of April 2008, I was able to access it but it froze at 18% and couldn't go any further, despite re-starting my system several times. So, I would appreciate it if the DVD43 can look into this movie and figure out what is the bug that is keeping us out of the movie (before other producers get wise and use the same bug to lock us out). Thanks a million and keep up the good work.

DVD43 is such a fantastic effective program, I can't praise it enough. I was directed to it by ArchosFan forum & it has been the best. With my new Archos 605 WiFi having 160GB to load up with all the C*ap I can stick onto it, naturally I have to copy all my DVDs & home movies to it. With DVD43 it is so easy. I love to see the little smiley face turn Green. It runs in the background & automatically goes to work as soon as I pop a disk into the drive. Really idiot proof. I just discovered I can copy my VOB from my DVD directly to my Archos w/o even converting them - which takes hours for just 1. But now I can just drag & drop the VOBs onto my Archos & I've got my favorite movies on the fly. I just LOVE it. I'm now trying to figure out how to make Donation to the maker of this freeware program because it's just so cool & useful.

I have used this program for a few years with intervideo dvd copy express. it works good, but i have run into a few movies that it will not work with. if the movie in your dvd drive shows the drive letter way off to the right of the title, it will not be recognized in the drive and will not work. the following movies will not copy for example.

THE GREAT RAID (D:)
UNITED 93 (D:)

does anyone know a way around this??????

I have been using DVD43 (Most Recent version/update)and it works flawlessly. The problem with most people and computers is. 1. System requirement. When you are trying to run multiple programs at the same time, you'll have a crash. I believe the reason people are having problems with DVD43 and Vista is because Vista is a heavy memory user and trying to run several programs will cause a lock or crash. Bottom line there are many things that can cause software problems but people are quick to make premature conclusions.

But I have never had a problem with this program.

I have been using it all this time with Vista and never crash. So yes it works!

I have used this program for a couple of years now and it works great, decrypting 100% of dvd movies. Unfortunately, if you are running Windows VISTA you are probably going to run into problems. I ran into the same issue as another poster here did. When trying to use DVD43 with vista, my system locks up and has to be hard booted. This seems to only happen when using the newest version of DVD43. Does anyone have the previous version I can get?

DVD43 seems to be a little misunderstood. It won't help you avoid bad sectors or fix up problems on new DVDs, but it does decrypt 100% of the DVDs I've tested.

You need to have a decent copy program to handle the bad sectors and messed up crap they stick on some of these newer DVDs. I use 1CLICK DVD COPY with DVD43, and it's always worked well for me. Plus, they update their software each time new DVDs are released which cause new problems.

So, if you can't get DVD43 to work with your DVD copy software, consider changing copy programs. The latest version DVD43 4.3.1 is the best version yet. I agree some older versions could not handle the newer movies, but 4.3.1 is right up to date and decrypts perfectly.

Works like a charm. Decrypted every DVD I threw at it. You need to make sure your copy software takes care of the structural problems on newer DVDs, DVD43 doesn't do that, it just decrypts. I use 1CLICK DVD COPY, it's the best and it works great with DVD43.

Now I get Read Errors during 1ClickDVD copy process, and DVD's that copy without errors just spin at "Loading" in my DVD player. DVD player is new. I restored older 1Click and 4.0 of DVD43, but combination is still unstable. I shutdown DVD43, uninstalled, and then re-installed, so I suspect I'm clear of newer version.

I get from "Unable to connect. You must reinstall driver", to "There is a problem with the region code" and "Unable to copy due to an error in the system".

I thought I was the only one, until I called a friend and he said "Dude, I follow your advice with 1Click and now I cannot back up anything unless it has already been burned before".

Any suggestions? Should I get the newest version of 1Click? (almost 60 bucks!!!)

I have found that DVD43 works for about 80% of the dvd's released. An alternative to DVD43 and DVDshrink is Magic DVD Copier / Ripper. Magic DVD works on 100% of all dvd's and is updated atleast once a month. Also DVD Shrink is the best software to use with DVD43 for backing up your DVD'S

The message about the "cannot read filr due to encription" means that, A. you need to restart DVD43 because it was disconnected. (Do you have an external dvd burner? If so plug your USB back into the port and restart the computer) or B. The disc you are trying to burn is too scratched or damaged and it cannot read the files located on it.

"A read error has occurred while reading a file. The file may be encrypted or cannot be read by the DVD device. If you are using a decrypter, you may need to restart it before running 1Click DVD Copy Pro."

I finally uninstalled/reinstalled DVD43 v3.9 and it's been fine since. After reading this forum, I doubt I will upgrade to v4.0 until I start having problems again; I believe the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here! BTW, I also noticed a great majority of people have been having problems copying Sony and Disney DVDs; in particular, Saw III. Tried it, copied first time. Maybe it's the OS? I know it's a long shot and probably has nothing to do with it BUT for the sake of this discussion thread I'll admit that I'm still running Windows 2000.

This is the only free on-the-fly decrypter any where (believe me, I looked). It does exactly what it says it does, it decrypts.

Some other free tools like DVD Decrypter and DVD Fab Decrypter also decrypt DVDs, but with those tools you have to spend a hour ripping the DVD first to the hard drive before you can copy it and they also waste about 9 GB of disk space for nothing.

DVD43 runs in the background while you copy with your dvd copy software. You have to make sure you are using a decent copy software (like '1Click DVD Copy' for example) that can handle new movies. Decrypters are not meant to deal with these structural problems, your copy software is supposed to.

DVD43 works VERY well and once everybody learns it is like riding a bike. One thing though (why I gave a 4 instead of a 5) is that with Sony dvd's it makes your computer lock up to where the face goes all demonic and you can't shut your computer down and have to hold the button in to make it power off. That is the reason why "Saw 3" would not copy. I have heard of some people copying Sony dvds but I think they are full of crap. No one I have ever talked to has ever been able to do it ever. If anyone needs any help I would be more than willing to help you. You can email me at mone4jason@gmail.com .

ARPH dude! Get rid of inCD by nero. Also Goto task manager and end the dvd43 process tree before trying to un-install the program. Remove 1ClickCopy ver.4 before installing ver. 5. If that doesn't work boot in safe mode and remove all DVD programs and add back till you find the problem. You can skip all that and goto a previous restore point and restore your system to a previous XP point. Your last option and everyone loves to do this first is to do a fresh install of the O/S. My advice "get you hands dirty, you will learn stuff". By the way AnyDVD cost $50 but works well with 1Click and ALL windows O/S but your problem is not all that, you need to just look a little harder. Don't give up!

I understand that paying a couple of bucks to not have problems is worth it, but $39.95 for a DVD decoder, another $39.95 for a Region + copyright unlocker and another $39.95 to convert a legal DVD so it will play on your iPod seems like a lot to me. I downloaded this program DVD43, and XP-Codec-Pack-1.3.4. They worked prefectly together better than one program I bought and another one I evalutated. DVD's should just work.

While it doesn't remove protection for all movies, it does for most and it's the simplist way to do it. Use DVD43 and burn with Nero, simple!

I've had no problems with DVD43 so it must be a software conflict for some of you thats causing your problems.

So I went online and found another software. DVD Region+CSS Free. And it WORK GREAT. You must Uninstall DVD43 to work. The DVD Region+CSS Free software is Free to Try for 30 days. After that it cost $39.95 with free Updates.. one more thing dose the New update of DVD43 3.9 takes care of the Sony ARccOS Protection??? Someone let me Know..

-Lord-

works on some, but not most newer ones. If the best they have to offer for updates is some sort of error correction, rather than updates for protections, using nothing is free too... get my meaning? AnyDVD is pay once, lifetime updates, and I've never missed with that one.

I wasn't told that when I bought the software. Then I tried "Chicken Little" but it would not copy. I ruined several dvd+r's. I called tech help and was told to update but wasn't really informed how or where. Any ideas anyone please email me at: angelalee4@comcast.net and ty. Instead of messing with the registry. Start|Run and type msconfig Go to the startup tab and uncheck DVD43. It won't auto start on every boot.
Hopefully a future version will have a check box so it doesn't load on every boot.

Excellent freeware alternative to AnyDVD. I would choose this over AnyDVD in just about every situation. It is nice to see it remain functional and be updated to include new protections. Great for people with kids who want to simply make backup copies of items they have already paid for so that the originals can be tucked away from peanut butter and scratches. :)

Combine this with DVD Shrink or some other DVD processing app and you should be good to go.

Yeah, the MPAA complaint reviewer is totally out of touch with the real world-- software like this is sorely needed for legal purposes-- like saying Viagra is only used to rape & commit pedophelia:

If i pay money for some content(whether entertainment, software, or data), esp. good money, i assume i am the 'owner' of such content(nonwithstanding to lincensing gibberish stating i an only a lessee & subject to play it only on designated systems, blah ad infinitum) & can damn well run/play it whenever/wherever i please:

I do NOT need to purchase the same item several times each in order to have sufficient backups or listen to something when away from home/on a component with a different brand-- say at work, on commute/vacation, while working out, etc. AND insist on having multiple backups in multiple locations in case of a significant pc upgrade, bios change, OS trashing/upgrade/change, peripheral brand change, power surge, disc breakage, dvd player/hard disk malfunction, multimedia software upgrade, you name it ad nauseum-- this is what's called insuring your purchases.

For example, I would NEED to avoid something like Sony's BS-- change enough components in your pc & have it disqualified to play your content... or update their software, which wipes out previous DRM licenses, & get told that you should've thought to backup all content & licenses before running the update, you will need to re-purchase your content.

looks good, but have other free progs to do this stuff. Just wanted to comment about the previous guy with the mpaa crap. There are no one loosing jobs or money etc. People have been copying records videos etc for years. They are just using the lame excuse. Their ads are only directed to lamers like the previous poster. If these companies stopped ripping us off with damn right through the roof prices, then there would be no piracy. They rob us, so we will rob from them. It is THAT simple.

Capitalism is for morons.

JSDvs9172

JSDvs9172 reviewed v3.6.2 on Aug 18, 2005

This software is junk. Sure it allows for easy copying of protected DVD's and I can trust someone would use it for their own personal use and that's their business right there what they do. BUT, in the wrong hands it can be used for illegal purposes - MEANING PIRACY - and for that particular reasi=on I have given the software not only low marks, but a complaint directed at the MPAA. Trash like this is why the studios lose money over unclaimed profits!! Now I'm not saying this as a representative of Hollywood (of which I am no such thing) - no, I'm sayng this as a just, concerned citizen - but I would advise this software be removed from the Internet to protect the free market from idiots who make it easy to abuse the system. Just because you have a good idea doesn't mean you should do it - if it were otherwise, Napster would still be free and there would be no need for me to rant off about this kind of thing (and neither is the case here, or in society for that matter). You get the idea. That's why I'm marking it so low... and why I complained to the MPAA on the software's existence. We're talkin' about "sumthin' fer nuthin'" stuff here in more than one way. So don't download this and you won't give the writer/s of the software any reason to do something that can legally backfire on him/her/them.

You seem pretty passionate about obeying the law, maybe you should volunteer with Amnesty International or something if you really want to help with justice issues. While you're at it, could you look into getting the US to pay Canada the billions of dollars it illegally collected in soft wood tariffs? The courts have spoken three times and still the money has not been returned.

DudeBoyz

DudeBoyz reviewed v3.5.3 on Jun 13, 2005

Sony nailed him. Too bad. I think they should go after people trying to profit from selling decrypting software. Freeware authors are not doing it for the profit motive, after all, right? This DVD43Free sounds kind of like what AnyDVD does, is that correct? I'd much rather have a free version than someone charging for something developed from Open Source.

-Lord-

-Lord- reviewed v3.5.3 on Jun 12, 2005

Anomaly: you've missed a good one then. If you only know of those other programs, and don't know about DVDDecrypter's ability to not only defeat the copy protection, but also read in raw file mode, create and burn isos, and several other features, then you're leading a sheltered or tunnel visioned life. Decrypter ruled, but the MPAA got to the developer and he's forced to stop production. Won't be long before this one's next.

anomoly

To HKM, DVD43Free is a driver that removes CCS protection. You still need a program that that is capable of copying a DVD to use along with it.

[Duh, thanks, I know!]

Sorry, not really rating it just now -- only a comment to GET IT WHILE THE GETTING'S GOOD. It appears to be similar to the now-no longer being developed DVD DeCRYPTER. Per latter's website, he has been forced to stop developing and distributing that proggie. While dvddecrypter.com site is gone, you can still get it at afterdawn.

THIS prog, DVD43FREE seems to be made by the same folks that make DVDIDLE, etc. At least that is where their site links to.

So, again, I'd say to get this proggie [as well as DVD DECRYPTER] before the big THUGS out there go after this one too.

Will post a review after I've had a chance to check this one out......
