Publisher's Description
Direct Folders guarantees you quick and direct access to your favorite folders and recent documents. Jump to any deeply nested folder in a single mouse click. The DirectClick feature of Direct Folders lets you double click on any part of the empty area in the standard Windows Open/Save/Browse dialogs to display a menu giving your favorite and/or recent folders and files. This works in Explorer, Total Commander and DirectoryOpus.
Direct Folders automatically resizes every standard file dialog, so you can see a larger number of files. Find what you looking for with less scrolling. One of the many useful features of Direct Folders is its ability to automatically switch the folder views of open dialogs to thumbnails, list or details depending on the application you are working with. You can select your preference of file sort order to be the default as well. Make a file dialog instantly jump to the folder already opened in Explorer. Just switch to the Explorer window you need. With Direct Folders you can check each of your drive's free space right from the File Save dialog box. The Info Panel is displayed over the Open, Save and Browse dialogs. This panel lets you: see the full path to the folder opened in the file dialog; see the big icon, date and size of the selected file.

I was also a big fan of Direct Folders, but not anymore, mainly because of the completely non-existent support. I mainly use it so I can doubleclick and get right to a folder. In the past few versions this has only worked on local drives -- I am unable to use "Add Here" to add any folder on a network drive. I've written to support THREE times about it without a single response. I paid good money for the program and it's almost completely useless to me. Can anybody recommend a good replacement that will have similar folder capabilities, and would actually work??

Support for CodeSector products is abysmal. If you expect support when you purchase software, know that you probably won't get it here. I, unfortunately, paid for this software. I put in support ticket once and with a follow up received no response in 6 months of waiting. The only thing I ever heard from this guy was in response to my complaints about him in another forum.
With version 3.3 of DirectFolder, he decided to change the key. His page just says "contact me", but of course you have to look all over the place to find this contact information. Anyway, if you haven't guessed by now, I tried contacting him the day I saw this release and have received no response...and people wonder why shareware gets rated so badly here...because of companies like CodeSector.

Well it's free now for home use, so of course its rating will soar. Same software, lower price, different rating. I guess if people got into a movie for free, they'd rate it highly, no matter how much it sucked.

This program is pretty cool. The shortcuts are real nice, as is being able to change the places bar (why doesn't XP allow this???). The new version looks a little more professional, ie. not so 16 bit. The dialog resize is nice too especially at higher resolutions, again it's just brain dead that this isn't default behaviour in XP - but DirectFolders does a great job.
Things I would like to see improved upon: ability to add more than 5 folders to the places bar. With bigger dialog boxes, why not have more shortcuts there? The info bar that attaches to the top of the dialog box looks better now, but barren. Would be nice to get the drive space bar back up there for the current drive. It also took a while to discover that the shortcuts can be accessed by double clicking in a blank area of the dialog box. Feature I would like to see added is the ability to add the start menu to the shortcuts menu, especially when bringing it up by double clicking the desktop. Finally, the documentation could use some work - as it is now the only information on how to use the program comes from the website... and it's not very detailed.
Most of these things are nit picks. Fact is, I quickly registered when my trial ran up. Lucky for me, the website was running a 50% sale the day I did. Ten bucks for this program was a great deal. I'd give this program another half star if I could... it's teetering close to a whole 5 stars actually.

Direct Folders came out as one of the top four in this comparative review. It took a long time for 3.0 to appear, but now it's finally here, and it's amazing how much of a difference it makes to use such a tool.
Give this a shot. You might just fall for it :)

Direct Folders have more features then AutoDialogs: recent folders list, support for Windows Commander, WinZip and WinRar and so on. Get to know it better and you like it.

This program is okay.. the UI is a little bit sloppy and 16-bit-ish. I'll stick with Access Folders for now (looks and functions more to my liking).
