It always seemed like this was an efficient backup solution. The one time that I REALLY needed the backup to work, it failed totally. I could not install from any backups onto any of the drives that I tried. I lost so much data. [FYI. Am PC expert -- have been developing on, building, and using PCs for 30 years...]

Reviewed version 2.13. Backed up 145GB of data on my notebook drive to another without issue (Win7 x64). My computer fell asleep part way in, but DI XML kept going when it woke up. I guess it would have took 1.5 hours for the backup plus another good while (30+ mins?) to get the filename mappings as i told it i wanted to browse the files in the backup rather than have a raw sector backup. This is acceptable, but slower than other software.
Being able to browse the backup set, view and extract files makes this program stand out from the others. It can split the files at 650M for CDs if you are silly enough (178 files/CDs in my case). It doesn't let you select you own split size. An option for 4.7GB for DVDs would be nice.
I haven't needed to do a full restore (hope i never need to) but the file extraction works great. Requires Run As Admin. Warns me to turn UAC off, i didn't but it still works fine. Vista's agressive UAC may be a different story. (This version pre-dates Win7). Free for personal use only.
