I freeze the computer first and use this then backup the drivers un-freeze and restore the drivers

You could update all your drivers
with a proper shareware driver update
app & this krudd will still find outdated
drivers. What does that tell you..????

I agree with JWvan..."Avoid at all costs" This and "Slim Drivers" and other "driver updaters" use their own downloaders which (a) supply a corrupted file for installation (b)or mess up the Windows installtion leading to (c)you having to RE-INSTALL the Windows System files. Hope you have a restore disk or you will then have to do a complete re-install of Windows after "DriverMax" screws up your computer. So it's best to let the MS Windows Upater do all driver updates.

I tried this as free trial offer. It seemed to work but took ages to download drivers & always went back to 14 updates required even after downloading 5 drivers so is impossible, unless you list them, to easily find which are downloaded & which are not.
So I decided to uninstall the program............this is where the real problems start, uninstall goes OK except all it uninstalls is the program leaving many stray files n the PC, icon in toolbar (which is impossible to delete) & popups etc that appear when you watch a film or sports, similar to those you get on Youtube but 10 times as large!
After searching the web I found many suggestions to help.
One suggested going to I/Explorer cookies, I found what I thought was the problem, it deleted it (from the toolbar) but next day it was back, also the window still appears when viewing TV. This means they have access to your PC even after UNINSTALL.
I ALSO WENT TO THE their official WEBSITE where you find they give you anotherproduct name to delete, not DriverMax.
I also tried restoring my PC to 2 different restore points before I installed DriverMax, it made no difference. I guess the only way to get rid of them is re-install windows.......maybe!

Despite what all the other reviews are saying about DriverMax, I've been using the FREE version of this program for a little while now on my Win 7 X64 system and it keeps my drivers all up to date, NEVER had a problem with it. I always create a restore point just in case before I install a new driver, that only makes sense. The free version limits you to 2 driver downloads a day but how many drivers change that often, after you update them all over a period of days! Before anyone asks, I do NOT work for this company but I'm very happy with what they provide for FREE. It's really worth it to me...

Unfortunately this is crippled crapware that can hose your system royally. Read the other reviews. So many options are disabled or limited. How can one want the Pro version when the free version sucks so bad?

This crapware is really potential malware. They connect you without permission to an unregulated forum and if you are not an advanced user then you could easily download the wrong driver that could cause your computer to stop working or even worse a virus disguised as a driver.

The rating system is very suspicious and just because it shows hundreds of idiots (I sometimes suspect they may not even be users but malicious hackers) say they downloaded a driver from another so called user that uploaded what they claim to be an updated driver, doesn't mean it is even an authorized nor appropriate driver for you device. The reports are also generated by these so called users so even if your drivers are up to date, if one person claims an update then it will deceive you into downloading whatever the file is. When they report hundreds of different drivers for one specific device then you really have to begin questioning what the hell they are doing.

WARNING=And trust me from experience with a software company (formally called InboxCop that I sadly worked for) who's owner reported gleefully to me that they faked user comments (with hundreds of fake email addresses) to counteract negative comments and add positive comments to every release -- "myboy" is probably one of the guys that makes this crapware.

AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS!!!

DriverMax 2009:
-No 64bit support
-They force you to register, and when you do, they display you exposed on a forum, without asking your approval
-They spam you after you give them your address
-popular video card/processors/etc section - clicking on it nothing happened, what is it anyhow?

Not very good. I prefer Double Driver which is also now portable....sometimes I need to back up drivers on more than one machine.

Great program but I have a question. The program shows I have something like 25 drivers needing updates, but I thought I was keeping up better than that. Is it safe to upgrade as recommended?

Backs up your drivers and reinstalls them in a friendly manner. There is also an option of compressing them into a zip file. However, when you import, you'll have to decompress them manually anyways so don't use the compress option unless you want to save space. I've had some errors with a couple of files not being able to copy over but 99% of files did (don't know whose fault that is -- the OS or the program). It left a log file in My Documents so you can find out what didn't get installed. I have yet to try the online driver update function since you need an account in order to do so. Overall, an awesome product. You've saved my behind. Thanks DriverMax!

P.S.: For those times you need to reformat and reinstall Windows, it's best if you save your backed up drivers somewhere other than your OS partition. Saving them externally from your computer would be optimal.

Doesn't seem to work in 64-bit Vista. Also, the program incorrectly identifies my Logitech G7 mouse driver as being out of date. My Logitech G7 mouse driver is version 4.60.42.0. DriverMax recommends I install the original generic Microsoft mouse driver that came with Windows Vista because the version number is 6.0.6001.18000.

It is freeware, they use same Principe as Avast does, the key you get don't cost a penny.

No money involved = freeware.

It's a GREAT piece of software, only downside is you can't select more than one driver at a time, no shift select.

Although most IT people such as me would love a tool like that that works, I am not putting down the idea, but your listing says it's "Freeware"

"Freeware" generally means, no ties / connection or need to make an external account. When this software starts it indicates that you need to make an account do download / search for new drivers.

Also, it shows a 30 Day limitation unless you put in a valid Serial. None of that was ever in any "Freeware" I have used before.

Bottom line, I like the idea and I know may people that would be useful for, but if you are going to list it as "Freeware", then deliver on what it is!

Hrm.. I know Windows File Protection doesnt like it. The interface needs some work or may be I'm just using it wrong, but having to do stuff one by one instead of being able to shift-select is a pain. One computer it actually downloaded the updates, the second computer the updates I selected just sat there in queue.. When I restarted the program it couldnt find any drivers and just kept doing a "indexing drivers" loop in the logs. I've uninstalled it and havent tried to run it again yet.

I almost didn't try this because I don't like any programs where you have to send in your email or something for functionality. But I'm glad I did...a driver repository is really a great thing. Windows drivers can be one of the big headaches for Microsoft OS', and this makes upgrading and backing them up for a reinstall far easier than any other way I've tried.

Not bad really (about freakin' time-windows repository-yes please). Allows for access to a driver database (with choices & apparently supported by MS?) after initial email code confirmation input. My asus board had a nvidia sound driver update which gave me asio output!-sweet on altec lansing 2.1's. The supposed mouse driver update 5512 should be avoided at all costs. Lost my usb kb & usb mouse & was unable to even login. Other than that no issues whatsoever.
BTW-prog will upload the drivers you currently have (& are updating) to it's db. have at it
