What a fantastic programmer's editor!
Whenever I'm using this great quality piece of software I wonder why I was messing around with that "ultra-garbageware" (aka UltraEdit) all these years.

Fantastically complete editor. You just have to use it to really appreciate how well it does it's job.

I wouldn't think of using anything else. (I've tried.)

This software is not "bug free". No software is.

I see no reason to switch from UltraEdit. UE is much more configurable in terms of file handling, system integration, and (importantly) interface. (Is there even a way to show toolbar text in this thing? And no, that's not the extent of what I'm talking about regarding its configurability.)

The best text editor.
Small footprint, ultra fast, fully configurable, fully UNICODE complient, affordably priced and best of all bug-free. What else can we ask? (a 64bit version maybe)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I would give this editor more than a 5 rating if it was possible. This is my favourite editor. The Clip Library feature saves me hours and hours of work over the year. I have developed a clip called "normal.html" where I have all my frequently used HTML tags and attributes in the one clip and then use EditPlus as a word processor, saving files as HTML - who needs bloated office suites?

Highly recommended.

It's the happy medium between huge HTML or PHP editors and NotePad. When you get used to it you understand that it has so many powerful and easy-to-use features to you that is saves days of both code-editing and editing of simple text. And on the same time it's so fast and not clumsy! The only problem for me is not full support of regular expressions. But it's enough in 95% cases

I agree with the other positive reviews. Bought this several years ago and it's been heavily used since for quick web editing and a lot more. For me, a great mid point between Dreamweaver and the always underwhelming notepad. Powerful, light and just well done for what it is.

There are so many editors out there; some are bloated, huge and hard to use. Others are buggy garbageware or silly kid-ware.

EditPlus is an exception to that rule. Minimalistic but feature rich is a real tool. A serious code editing tool for people who really need it.

Highly Recommended!

UltraEdit can kiss my ass.

adamlau reviewed v2.31 build 406 on Mar 16, 2007

Amazingly stable, loads immediately. Excellent support, interface is particularly customizeable. Can be pared down to less than 1.5 MB on disk. Not quite as lightweight as the editors of Extreme Power Tools, but my preferred text editor for all occasions nonetheless.

zridling

zridling reviewed v2.31 build 406 on Mar 15, 2007

Its customizability alone makes EditPlus worth having. Not updated often, but it's near perfect!

After years fighting UltraEdit countless bugs(buggy unicode, folding, highlighting etc), I gave up and got a license of EditPlus. This little gem, is an excellent feature-rich programmers editor, better than most competitive software. I wonder why I didn't switch earlier...

Some invaluable features:

1. Excellent UTF-8 encoding support
2. FTP and LAN folders treeview
3. Great FTP/SFTP support
4. Fully compatible with Windows Vista
5. Simple but fast and working code folding
6. The fastest syntax highlighting rendering engine. Very accurate and extremely customizable

PS: The latest built is 315 not 286 mentioned here.

Highly Recommended!

The fix list above is pretty amazing, since I experienced none of those problems with the previous version. EditPlus is highly customizable and a great investment if you're not using UltraEdit.

Wish it handled larger files, but EditPlus is extremely customizable and with its small footprint, well worth the investment.

I have been using EditPlus for about 6 months for C and Perl programming and basic HTML and it is great all round. Has some very nice features and the developer got back to me within a few hours a number of times while I was trialing the application which prompted me to buy it.

I would have rated only one editor about EditPlus, that being UltraEdit, however recent "upgrades" to UltraEdit have made it much slower and UltraEdit's Unicode support is very buggy so I am now happy to say EditPlus is my favourite editor at the moment.

Well worth the money. If you are looking for a good programmers editor then at least give it a try. It is fast and light but has so much power.

First off, just FYI, this version (2.12) has been out for quite some time. Not sure why it was just posted but oh well.

Anyway, onto my review. This is the best text editor I have used, bar none. I tried TextPad for a while, but the ability to create and import new syntax highlighting schemes into EditPlus make it a must-have tool for anyone who writes programs in obscure (or even not-so-obscure) languages. For instance, I have used EditPlus for x86 assembly, MIPS, Prolog, Standard ML, SQL and LISP development. Many of these programming languages have compilers or interpreters which do not have built-in editors, requiring one to use an external editor. The problem, as many developers know, is that without syntax highlighting, it is much easier to make mistakes and not notice them right away. I highly suggest any developers out there that are looking for a text-editing solution to download this program then go to the website, click "User Files" and download whichever syntax files you need. I guarantee it will make things much easier. Also, if you can't find what you are looking for on the site, download a couple syntax files, view their contents, and you should be able to write your own very quickly.

I would have to agree with Ritz's comments. Personally, I can't keep myself from using UltraEdit, but EditPlus, together with TextPad 4.0, is definitely among the best of the text editors.

And don't be fooled by its misleading reputation of being a text-based HTML editor: it's not. It just has some nice HTML-aware features; you can just as easily edit perl or xml files if you want!
