Publisher's Description
FTP Voyager is a powerful FTP client for Windows with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. It lets you update a Web site with a single click, transfer files directly between FTP servers, resume interrupted downloads, and perform advanced file searches while doing other FTP tasks. The FTP Site Profile Manager makes it easy for you to add your own FTP sites. You can also import your FTP sites from many other FTP applications for use in FTP Voyager. It supports secure connections using SSL and SSH. Additional features include auto ASCII/Binary transfer selection, advanced file filtering, folder shortcuts, clipboard URL monitoring, and dial on demand. You can also queue your downloads for later. By adding files to download to a queue, you can continue on with your FTP tasks and start the download queue when you're finished.

The abominable ribbon interface ruined this FTP client.

Sooo... I was always awesome, but now it is completely free. Not shareware anymore. Just free.
Current version is 16.1.0.0

$50 per year for a bug-riddled FTP client that supports SFTP? With all the free and cheaper shareware alternatives? My goodness these people are mad.

It's loaded with bugs. You don't need to scratch very deeply to find them. Others have pointed just a few of them out.
It's sync feature, IMO, sucks. Not only is it clunky, it's nowhere near as effective or flexible as a true solution like Beyond Compare.
FileZilla lags way behind FTP Voyager in feature set and customization, but at least THAT author fixes bugs, rather than just adding them.

Higher-priced but for me, has always been solid. I've tried the others and can't get myself to change away from it's full and well thought out feature set. I rely heavily on its strong syncing tool for managing servers.

FTP voyager's "drag and drop" doesn't work with my Vista 64bit machine...and no plans for an update to fix the problem. Couldn't get a refund from Rhinosoft for my purchase for FTP Voyager 15.
Switched to the free FileZilla ftp client for the time being.

I've used FTP Voyager (Secure) for years but I am finally dumping it, and I'm doing so with lots of time left on my "update protection" period. I just can't deal with it anymore...
I love the application underneath, and no other client has a "look and feel" that sits nearly as well with me, but the bugs are just too much. It's ridiculous. Don't they do any QA at all?
I can't deal with crashes while I'm in the middle of uploading many GBs of data. I can't deal with crashes that occur merely because I had the audacity to change the log settings. I can't deal with everything grinding to a halt because FTP Voyager feels like putting up dialogs telling me that some error occurred on an individual file being uploaded.
On that note: Why, WHY, WHY would they design an FTP client that makes all upload/download activity stop for individual errors, rather than having it gracefully continue? Why? Why? How infuriating is it to think you're running an upload task overnight, only to find in the morning that the entire operation ceased 9 hours ago? It's like designing a car so that the engine cuts off when the "Change Oil" light first comes on. (No, it's even more idiotic than that.)
And I can no longer deal with moronic upload dialogs that say I'm uploading data at a rate of "3.0 MB/s", when in actuality it's more like ~20 KB/s. Nor can I deal with dialogs that tell me I've uploaded 2.5 MB of a 1.0-MB file. That nonsense is entertaining for about 4 seconds, and after that it's just annoying.
And yes, the price is pretty ridiculous. Having to pay for bug fixes is also asinine. Having to pay extra just for SFTP/SSL is a joke. A very bad joke. It's a ripoff, and I feel foolish for having paid for it in the first place.
This is just the tip of the iceberg... Too many bugs, and too expensive. I can't deal with it anymore!

Yea I agree FTP Voyager is a great app, but it has seem to get bloated over the last updates and the price has made me make the move.

Hiccups on large file downloads? What does that mean, and is it reproducible? I've downloaded large files without a problem. I'm not doubting that you have truly had issues with FTP Voyager, zridling... Mention them to FTP Voyager support if you care to (though obviously you've no such obligation).
zridling reviewed v13.0.0.0 on Jun 13, 2006
The customization is great, even fantastic, but this version still hiccups on large file downloads, which is critical to me, and which does not happen with other FTP software.
httpd.confused reviewed v12.2.0.0 on Aug 17, 2005
As usual, the price shown here isn't correct (for the version listed). The actual price (for the non-secure version) is $39.95 with a year of updates. The secure version, with two years of updates, is what costs $59.95. Yes, I think both of these prices are pretty high, but we all should know how I feel about that.
As far as what it offers over FileZilla, the interface alone is enough for me. With FileZilla 2.2.14b, I can hardly configure anything--I can't even put the local/remote panes above one another, rather than side-by-side; I can't configure the toolbar, or the listing font; I can't decide whether I want file tranfer dialogs or not... and so on.
FTP Voyager offers extensive customization, which I put a high value on. You don't? Great. I don't care. That's why you get your review, and I get mine.
FTP Voyager also has a "sync" function, which is a nice idea (also not found in FileZilla), but could be better implemented. I much prefer the way Beyond Compare works in this regard.
FTP Voyager has lots of little niceties, like "folder locking", remote file editing, power file transfers (really just a gimmicky name for dynamic file transfer multi-threading, but still a nice feature). None of these alone are life-altering features, but they add up to a very nice usability enhancement. Again, if you like using a rigid, feature-devoid freebie just to save a few bucks, that's wonderful for you.
There are a slew of other things that FTP Voyager offers that others don't, such as the "FTP Voyager Scheduler". Agreed, some of these are esoteric features that average users have no use for.
httpd.confused reviewed v11.2.0.2 on Mar 12, 2005
What "critical functionality" does FTP Voyager lack? I'm not being argumentative; I seriously want to know.
I find the search and synchronization features very helpful. I find all the other FTP clients people rave about to be woefully lacking in these and other "critical" features.
To me, FTP Voyager is (to quote a reviewer of another product) "the best, hands down". Regardless of price.
zridling reviewed v11.2.0.2 on Mar 12, 2005
Not a bad client, but lacks critical functionality required by better FTP clients. Also, it's grossly overpriced.
Dirk van Hoofen reviewed v10.0.0.8 on Nov 17, 2003
Generally good. But why "Rhinosoft" not write here in this topic, whitch functions are now new, bugfixed or add ?

Nice tool. Sorry, that this actually version was not avaiable in GERMAN language (my mother-tongue). And, cannot the author create a "Free version for privat use", I am a student in germany - I do not possess , because I am old under 18 years.

This is a really nice program people. It has the right set of features, plus it seems really stable. I especially like the explorer look, which is my normal way of handling files anyway. I think it's the best FTP client I've used to date, and that includes Cute.

I have been looking for a good scheduler for about 2 years.
Finally, someone made a program that does this right. I dragged the remote folder into the scheduler, and my orders are downloaded from the server automatically each night.
Many thanks to the guys at Rhino Software!!
