Best FTP software i have seen

I have used many free FTP clients- FileZilla, WinSCP, BitKinex, Xftp (which is now free for personal non-commercial use), the almost unknown tiny FFFTP- http://www2.biglobe.ne.jp/~sota/ffftp-e.html – which is lightning fast and even the living fossil LeechFTP which, although discontinued for more than 12 years still can be a viable choice, but when I discovered FTPRush it immediately became my favourite and my first choice FTP client. It offers all I need and a lot more. It is great that the developers of FTPRush made it freeware, in fact it is better than most of the commercial clients (I would not say the best because I have not tested them all). It is very fast, stable and has a nice gui, it is highly flexible and has a portable version too so one can have it on their external flash drives with all its configurations, it has customizable colour themes, it can be minimized to system tray and can auto-keep connections alive, it offers download and upload speed limit, it supports drag and drop, tabs and can monitor clipboard, it has a powerful hotkey manager, it supports UPnP and has a circumstantial help file, it provides a wizard for the beginners and also a detailed logging, it is translated to 23 languages, it offers file synchronization and bookmarks, a built-in search engine, configuration auto-back-up, on-the-fly compression, scripting (built-in Script Designer), commands (built-in Command Designer for some FTP Servers). I have been using it for about a month and I am sure I have had just a glimpse upon its features. The only thing I miss is shell integration, but since I am using the portable version I am not sure whether this feature is available in the installable version or not. Overall, for me this is a great proffesional FTP Client and I hope it won’t be abandoned like BitKinex for example.

I haven't tried this software yet, but I just wanted to respond to mxxcon's comment.

I am a big FlashFXP fan and have actually bought a legal copy of their license. So, I am very familiar with the layout and functionality of FlashFXP. By just looking at the interface of FTPRush, I can already see there are a few (minor) similarities between the two, but FTPRush seem to have more (better) features such as tabs. With FlashFXP's inability to update their interface, it is making other FTP software better.

I can go on and on with the comparison of the two software. However, I do not have the time. So, I'll just conclude this by saying that FlashFXP and FTPRush DOES NOT look the same!

mxxcon: You are a moron. FTPRush is based on UltraFXP, that client has been around for ages. That's one. Two, if you actually tried ANY other FTP client except for your beloved FlashFXP, you'd notice that MOST of them have EXTREMELY similar interfaces. Three, the major advantage of FTPRush over FlashFXP in particular is the fact that it has tabbed interface, which means that I DON'T have to open 10 copies of FTPRush to use 10 sites (unlike FlashFXP).

And finally, you dumb ignorant bas****. TRY stuff, before you talk s***. And TRY other ftp clients. What I say is based on actual experience, I've tried tons of other client before I ended up with FTPRush. You, on the other hand I bet only use Ffxp AND of course let's not forget the fact that you are a beta tester for them, which is full-of-s****2.

Cons: dint find any cons, will be telling after finding any.

Very cool. Now I can more easily switch sides and drag toolbars/elements around to where I want. And to echo others, I used FileZilla for several years, but it doesn't touch the ease, power, and broad flexibility of FTPRush.

Don't let the freebies fanboys (Dennis87) kid yourself: yes, Filezilla is a nice freebie, but it is by no means "better" than FTPRush. Note that no arguments is put forward in order to support this pulled-out-of-hat fact, which is because it is simply untrue and cannot be argued.
Either this is due to the "reviewer" (if we can call him/her that way) lack of actual hand on experience, in which case please abstain from writing "reviews", or this is an unfounded lie purposedly biased towards freebie, which would be even more sad and condamnable.
Don't get me wrong, Filezilla is a nice freebie, but it just doesn't compare to FTPRush in terms of features. FTPRush does compare to FlashFxp though. Some prefer FlashFxp, but I prefer FtpRush due to FlashFxp author's lack of diplomacy and consideration towards customers (existing and potential).
Also, Kashin, please do not mix words such as "unacceptable" and "unexceptable" (which does not even exist), it makes me grind my teeth.

With freeware FTP clients like FileZilla being so good, it's difficult to justify paying too much for one, though FTPRush is reasonable. Customizability might be FTPRush's strongest point, from its interface to keyboard shortcuts. Although I could not find a logout command in the menus.

All the positive reviews that ppl give to this client in most of the cases are not related to the "pretty look" you were referring to. Before trying ANY new program, I, personally, CONFIGURE it, you, as I can see, get straight to the point: use it. If you have had taken your time and have a look at the options, you would see that this client is quite flexible and by doing a little bit of configuring, you could get rid of all that "mistakes" you named in your review. +wait and see the upcoming BUILD 568. Tons of improvements. To conclude, a piece of friendly advice: before you use any program/game, take your time to properly configure it according to YOUR needs, becase they usually shipped with default setting that in most of the cases are far from optimal.

kashin

kashin reviewed v1.0 RC6 Build 565 on May 9, 2005

I gave this program a try because of the comments people left about it while reviewing (negatively) FlashFXP. Although it has a flashy interface with pretty buttons all over the place, anyone who uses FTP daily will immediately notice what's under the hood; poor code. I decided to give this program a quick test, so I connected to my xbox and dragged the media center folder over to a local drive. This client started transferring immediately, which was unexpected. What was even more unexpected was the fact it took 100% CPU time doing it. Also, I had the "Tasks" tab selected and while the transfer was going the program was locked _solid_ and would not allow me to switch to the "Queue" tab to see what was going on. It also wouldn't disconnect, I had pushed abort several time and it took a good 30 seconds for it to stop it's activities and 100% CPU usage. This is totally unexceptable to me. This gets a rating of 1, although it has potential, a flashy interface with cute buttons doesn't automatically equal a good FTP client, sorry.

Update: Nice try Diam0nd, I did in fact configure the client. There were other things about the client I disliked, but those were changed in the configuration menu, that is why they were left out. If you had read my review a little more carefully, you would have realized the problems I brought up cannot be alleviated through the configuration options. Bottom line is, this program does not "play nice", it simply takes 100% CPU time while transferring and is unresponsive, this is a big no-no.

For those of you who didnt know. FTPRush is actually based off of UltraFXP code. FTPRush bought it. UltraFXP stopped development and released its finally version as freeware because FlashFXP owners were attempting to prosecute UltraFXP owner because the help files looked very similar. I still use the freeware version of UltraFXP and dont see that changing.

I watched the development since RC1. The program became more and more stable. The FTPRush guys seem to be very flexible, as they work on useful suggestions made by users!

In my eyes FTPRush deserves a 6 as rating. It's more powerful than any other FTP client and now it even supports SSH FTP (i asked for the feature when i became registered user, so i know what i say "Very good support!").
