I don't think I've ever uninstalled anything so quickly. I used to use this, then it was never updated and I was excited to see some activity again.
This new version, as soon as I clicked on "custom" it popped up a list of software to download, and reading through it I realized I'd seen it all before and didn't like any of it. Then after clicking "Finish" it said I hadn't clicked on anything and wanted to know "would you like us to select some for you?" and then I couldn't leave it on my system because it just made me feel dirty.

Does nothing good for me, "advanced prefetching" doesn't seem to work at all. It actually slows down Firefox for me, by making page loads hang. Could be an extension conflict, I don't care to diagnose... All the stupid "tweaks" this thing does have been in my user.js file for eons anyway.
Zoroaster reviewed v1.0.3 on Jan 17, 2006
A very nice Velocity Center (sounds nicer than Speed HQ!).
I'm still careful with the 'Advanced Prefetching' option. I haven't encountered any problems yet, but I do turn it off on moody days: issues are said to be experience related...

Fasterfox is an incredible extension, your browser will run faster like a car of NFSMW!!

Works fine, but cuts some of images :/ .

excellent extension. No issues with it at all and contrary to others i've had no loading slowdowns. I was kind of disapointed by it being removed fromt the options window but for me this is one of those extensions you set and forget. So it really is nice not to have it stairing me in the face when I open the options window.
Richardky reviewed v1.0.2 on Dec 12, 2005
i still like the ease of tweaking my firfox without the need to do so manually anymore but im very dissapointed that they removed the gui from the options menu this sucks...no good guys put it back..i went back to older version!
GoodThings2Life reviewed v1.0.2 on Dec 12, 2005
I really like it on "optimized"... but that's because I don't like the thought of prefetching. Haven't experienced any issues with it.

Something about this and some, but not all of my systems caused FF to load up very slowly after enabling turbo or optimized versions. Unfortuneately any pageload enhancements gained aren't worth sitting and waiting for FF to load. Uninstalled.
Kramy reviewed v1.0.1 on Dec 10, 2005
Well, their server is totally whacko and doesn't let me download it anymore. Not my problem, since FireTune applies pretty much all the settings this does, and it isn't loaded every time you start FF. Portable Firefox also comes with some optimizations aswell, so...I'm not missing anything.
Resetting default settings, automatically altering things, having prefetch ON by default...not good things.
This is just another way you can optimize FF for those who don't know how to. So take your pick - they all work ok, except this one doesn't for me.
My disk cache is 0mb. My memory cache is 512mb. Works ultra speedy, even though I've never even hit 128mb. :D
cowgaR reviewed v1.0.1 on Dec 10, 2005
I like the timer feature, although it lacks timing other tabs loaded in background.
What I really dislike and hate:
FasterFox changed my default settings without asking! Not that I needed to click default again, but it wasn't MY DEFAULT, it was what FasterFox thought was default, like it decreased my disk cache to 50MB(was more) etc. And it is doing that every time I click default.
It should install silently w/o changing ANYTHING, just adding goodies like timer etc. Let the user change settings! I also don't like TURBO as default selection after installing, which is bad for servers!
And when you go for custom settings, there aren't any tooltips whether this settings is checked in this mode, and any explanation to some statements (like disk cache must be under 75MB ?!?), and I am also unsure, but it seems on 1.5 it switched off the fast-back feature of FireFox, which is ON by default I think.
So many many faults, so my points 2 is generous I think.
pyridox reviewed v1.0.1 on Dec 10, 2005
Does make a difference in performance. I wish that they had kept the settings in the "options" menu though.

Great firefox extension! However the auto update of extensions seems to be broken? I had to manually download the update, the Tools->Extensions->Find Updates button didnt report an update was available

Seems to work great with 1.5, unlike previous version.
Give it a try and test it.

Nothing to say but this is a great extension. This makes tweaking Firefox much simpler than doing it manually.
Kramy reviewed v1.0.0 on Dec 7, 2005
styxrtp, I am also having that problem. I use Telus and am in Canada, but I doubt that is related.
Somewhere after 0.7.9 I could no longer get versions from their server. They seem to have changed how FTP works with it. Also, they don't seem to be submitting updates to mozilla.org either, so I'm out of luck.
The MAZZTer reviewed v1.0.0 on Dec 7, 2005
styxrtp: I upgraded from 0.8.1 in FF1.5 final and had no problems with the install.
Only flaw with this tool that I've found is that the page load timer isn't tab-aware, as it shows only the timer for the most recent page load. Switching tabs does not show the page load for the page in that new tab, as might be expected.
It's a very good tool for tweaking FF settings. Much better than FireTune (one of FireTune's "optimizations" is a placebo).
mjm01010101 reviewed v1.0.0 on Dec 7, 2005
seems about as straightforward as you can get. I would make sure if you use prefetching, that you disable all internal addresses, since you don't want prefetching of any internal LAN apps you might use.
FlAshdobe reviewed v1.0.0 on Dec 7, 2005
Pretty nice :)

I have been a good user of Fasterfox in the past, I currently am using 0.8.0 with FF 1.5 (final), but I found that I could not install version 1.0 for the life of me. This has also happened with version 7.9. I get an error stating "Could not download fasterfox.xpi" after adding the extension to firefox itself. Is anyone else having this problem?
No Beer For You reviewed v1.0.0 on Dec 7, 2005
I'd already made all of the changes manually.
It is certainly handier to have them all in one extension. Stops the prefetching in firefox from downloading pages I don't want and speeds up my firefox all in one go!
What more could you want???
(Jumped from v.81 to 1.0 - does that mean this extension has reached the end of features to be added? At least until the next Firefox version 2.0?)

@ osric:
Your question is: I didn't understand the meaning the latest upgrade. What is locales? Can anybody tell me? But anyways great plugin.
Your answer is: A locale is the translated interface of the program. In other words, if you don't have a supported language into the program and speak only english, the previous version shows the program in German instead of the English file.
I know beacuse I'm the italian translator.
azimov reviewed v0.8.1 on Nov 12, 2005
Locals are version that are language specific.
if you say are in the UK, your local version would be en-GB, US would be en-us and so forth.

It appears to slow down firefox on my machine. Neat options tho... :/
zee7 reviewed v0.8.0 on Nov 9, 2005
Usually I like to manually tweak my own settings, but this app does such a great job, why should I waste my time? This new update is markedly improved. Superb!
eviljolly reviewed v0.8.0 on Nov 8, 2005
Wow an update before it even is listed when I do "find updates"
Fasterfox is a great. It does everything you would want to do by editing about:config and a few other things. I also like the "disable popups from plugin" feature. Firetune is great if you don't want to run an extension, but it can't do everything fasterfox does.
JonathanDoe reviewed v0.8.0 on Nov 8, 2005
Works good but I'd rather manually tweak Firefox to my own specifications.
forgie reviewed v0.8.0 on Nov 8, 2005
Like others mentioned, I never really saw a lot of improvement from FasterFox, but with 0.8 I have noticed significant improvement and would recommend any who haven't found any difference give this version a shot before they say it sucks.

Streaming of films don't studder anymore and I love display of the pageload time. Can't see any speed improvements though, just more stability.

8.766s to load deviantart.com
This extension is awesome. I always Firetune my FF first, then install this and raise my memory cache to 256mb, disable website prefetch, and raise the number of simultanious connections.
sQin reviewed v0.7.9 on Oct 31, 2005
loads only half of images at deviantart.com. Firefox is much faster without that plugin!

Betanews is posting Firefox extensions now? There are a few hundred others.
pyridox reviewed v0.7.8 on Oct 20, 2005
These tweaks do make a difference. I toned it down to "Optimized" Vs. "Turbo", as "Turbo" really hammers web sites.
1uk3 reviewed v0.7.8 on Oct 20, 2005
Just downloaded 0.78 and all the preferences have disappeared apart from Disable Popups from Plugins. I'm using Firefox Beta 2.
I'm not sure if this is a bug when using the plugin with Beta 2 or if user preferences have been taken away in this version.
computershack reviewed v0.7.8 on Oct 20, 2005
Very tidy. In reply to Metshrines comment, all this does is provide a front end to many of the common settings that can be tweaked in "about:config". Also the advantage FF has in being able to be tweaked as such is that performance can be altered to better match the computer/internet connection it is on rather than having to suffer a "one fits all" solution.
themafia_69 reviewed v0.7.8 on Oct 20, 2005
Corrupted most images on the net for me, and didnt notice any performance upgrade, firetune is much better. after i uninstalled it, everything was fine again

I'll rate this a 5, because it does what it claims and well, but I dont think a browser should require a tool to tweak it just to make the browser as fast as competing browsers. Sounds silly, and I will be flamed, but its the truth
Kramy reviewed v0.7.8 on Oct 19, 2005
