It could use better documentation on how to set up various email clients. Once I found the information for Thunderbird, it was easy to setup. -1 for making me search. :P

Does what it says. However, the setup is much more complicated then it has to be. Downloads take forever. I could never download the .pdl file.

It need some improvements:
- Make FreePOPs Start automatically after the installations. (so no need to add manually to AutoStart)
- Add mailcity, kgb.hu or primposta.
- Add autoupdate the lua
- and others improvements.

Then release the Final version 1.0. because some people still afraid of using betas software :(

I have used a couple of other similar software such as "HTTPMail Proxy Blueberry HOT" (http://www14.plala.or.jp...-akira/bbhot/bbhot.html) and "Hotmail Popper" (http://www.boolean.ca/hotpop/), in retrieving my web-based emails to the local mail client. However, none of the software I used works as effective and efficient to FreePOPs. And most important of all, FreePOPs is FREE and an open-source software. It always gives me a great feeling that a free open-source software performs better than the commercial software and it's further demonstrates that commercial software do NOT necessary mean better than the free and open-source ones.

FreePOPs supports a HUGE (that I do mean HUGE) list of web-based email providers, even if your provider is not listed, you can always file a request and the people working behind this project will be more than happy to create the relevant file so you can use FreePOPs with it. I have been using it since late 2004 and it just gets better and better. I have no doubts to give it a 5-stars!!

And BTW, while it technically might be a beta because its version begins with "0," note that ALL versions of the software released to date begin that way, so it's a little misleading to label it that way. In other words, unless you plan on waiting years, don't wait for it to get out of "beta."

What a useful piece of software. Works extremely well. I now use to access Yahoo, netscape, operamail, mail.com and netzero. All mail received without a glitz. Saves much time.

Instructions:

-Download the program
http://www.freepops.org/en/
-Install
-GOTO Start>All Programs>FreePOPs>Service> SELECT Install service (-p 110 -b 0.0.0.0)
-Reboot
-Change your mail settings to those below.

Mail Settings:
Username:
username@yourmail.com (ie. johndoe@hotmail.com)

Password:
Your Password

POP server:
localhost

Incoming POP server port:
110

That's it!

Get the plugin for JUNO & NZ.*
Go to this page, right-click the link and choose "Save as" and save the juno.lua file.

*Plugin Installation
Since version 0.0.21 there is a special directory in which they should be put. Under Windows it is LUA_UNOFFICIAL (in FreePOPs installation path).

I have also used this for quite a while with no problems. Also the configuration is done through several config files or command line parameters, and not through the system tray icon. The icon is there simply to show that it is running. Perhaps in the future they will implement that functionality, but the system is actually very easy to use.

Sorry, i downloaded the version 0.0.27 from the official site, installed and when i run the program, i only have the FreePOPs systray icon but i can't lauch the program, the tray icon only have 2 options on the menu "About" and "Exit" nothing more, i also tried to double click it, uninstall and reinstall but still do not show nothing.

you can use for free hotmail, yahoo and many other accounts in every mail program like a normal pop3 server

you can also integrate seamlessy with antispam (like freeware k9) and antivirus (like avg 7 free)!!
