Freshdownload, while it works as a basic downloader, doesn't do much to increase your download speeds from my experience.

Trying to uninstall? Its says uninstalled but when you look at your registry, FD is all over the place - be prepared to take 30 minutes with a good registry search/edit tool. About 15 search terms later....

I have always like this download manager for it's simplicity and it does what it is designed to do. But this latest build is not that good.

When telling the program where to put the categories in a different place than the default set by the program seem to confuse the program. The categories are not created in the anything other than the default setting which is the desk top.

Downloading into these folders/Categories is hopeless, if you want to place a download into the other folder for example the download goes to the software folder and there is no way of moving the download into the correct folder/category, clicking on the downloded file in fresh Download and choosing properties brings up an option to change or add to the information of the download, however, the part ware one can change the folder the buttons are grayed out.

I also found it to crash IE 8 when the Fresh Download addon is active.

It's a shame that this once good software is now poor and tech support is none existent apart from a standard FAQ email one gets when sending a problem report to Fresh Download.

Time to look for a better download manager.

Been using it for more than 5 years. Very satisfied - works well, easy to use, no probs at all. Does what I expect from a d/l manager.

Decent program, it works, and always has.

I prefer DTA for Fx as I use Fx for all my browsing and web related stuff. But that preference does not factor into this review.

@Rustik_one - no, you aren't *required* to use IE for WU anymore - M$ released 2 Fx plugins, the WGA plugin and the OGA plugin so you can use WU straight out of Fx. Been doing it for almost a year myself.

rustik_one,
- I've said to uninstall IE ? No. (is's not very easy in fact)
- FreshDownload don't hurt IE engine because i use it every time I develop a web site, no problem.
- Firefox parse 98% of web sites perfectly. Those who don't work properly do not merit a watch.
- There is probably better DL Manager, but FreshDownload works perfectly for my needs.
It's a very good software, fast, stable, many options, frequent updates, free, and I don't recieve any spam.
I give it 5, it's an opinion, but i tested it more than 5 minutes to say this.

Ulmo:

I know IE is ate up, which is why I "uninstalled" it from Windows and use Firefox as my default browser. Same for Outlook Express; Thunderbird is the bomb.

However, "uninstalling" IE/OE from Windows via Windows Setup merely removes their shortcuts. One still needs IE to use Windows/Microsoft Update. And there is still the occasional site that refuses to work right with Firefox (though their numbers are fewer all the time). Not to mention the many applications that use IE to run their own interfaces... Most users are kinda stuck with it, even if indirectly.

I use the IETab extension in Firefox, which loads those few problem sites using the un-removeable IE engine, (which breaks when FreshDownload's crapware is installed). I keep IE locked down for the most part, anyway, with strict custom settings that only allow a select set of custom sites to run with anything near "dangerous" privileges. That way, the few time I have to use it, or it is used by another software, I'll have a measure of protection.

As for download managers... FDM Lite version all the way.

I'm not affiliated with this company.
If FreshDownload damage internet explorer ? I don't know, Browser integration is desactivated for me.
Flashgot for Firefox, Context menu for IE.
PS : Don't use IE and it won't bug (and you will host less spywares/keylogers/trojan/viruses)

Junk, screws up internet explorer. There are much better free download managers out there, one of them is called free download manager or FDM for short.

Ulmo sounds like a shill for this company. Keep spreading your pathetic lies, all people have to do is try this program and they'll see that you're full of it when it breaks their OS.

Fresh Download DOES damage settings and makes Internet Explorer non-usable. This app has been a piece of crap for years now and they obviously have no intention of fixing it.

Sorry rustik_one,
Tweaking a system for security means banning IE from your firewall.

They STILL haven't fixed the IE bug?? I LOVED this app when I used to use it, but as I became more and more comfortable tweaking my system settings for security and performance, (particularly my custom HOSTS file that blocks ads and badware), that the dreaded IE Blank Page problem arose. No other apps affected. What am I left to believe about FreshDevices?
