Crap, I can write a better one in less than 10 minutes.
Use Web mail notifier add-on for Firefox

Not a bad app, but why not just use IMAP with Thunderbird or Outlook Express?

There must be a market for it, and it's cool that it's open source. Just not all that awesome in concept, I guess.

With this add-on my google account does not stay logged on when Firefox is closed and then restarted. Also the favicon notification says I have 3 unread messages when I actually have no new mail. Gmail Notifier is bug-free.I do like the look of the context menu of this app, but it is poor for functionality. I would recommend Gmail Notifier instead of this app.

The best multi account manager for Gmail no doubt about that.
Just one question...why doesn't the update come through the usual channels like all the versions before?

Even I would prefer stand-alone app that have same look & feel & functionality by my opinion this is best Gmail account manager so far. Thumbs up!

To Anjin771, this extension logs in the same as you would if you went directly to the login page for Gmail. There is no difference and the security is the same which uses SSL encryption. All passwords are stored in Firefox's password system and are protected. Hopefully that clears that up!

It seems to do all the work in cleartext (e.g. not encrypted).
Whilst okay with some users this is totally not okay with others (I would say all should resist).

Other than that usability and functionality seems just great!

Thanks.

To Tenoq, thanks for that absolutely useless review. Who cares if Thunderbird checks your Gmail. What does this have to do with rating this program?

Program works perfectly in Firefox - the best Gmail extension out there.

he probably means you can't sign up for gmail accounts in the uk any more. now all uk users have to go with a 'yourname@googlemail.com'-style name.

could you elaborate your UK statement? I am in UK and I am using gmail. What is the problem?

the only one I see is that you need to change your language preferences to English(US) to have chat and another new goodies enabled. Which other languages doesn't have yet implemented (it is in beta afterall:-)

Kinda seems a little superflous if you're using any sort of e-mail client? Thunderbird checks all my Gmail accounts just fine, thanks - and any other e-mail client would too.

integrii

integrii reviewed v0.4.2 on Jan 20, 2006

@reply to integrii

i wanted this for the comptuer because i use opera. frankly i dont like the opera mail client, and i think its stupid to know that you have mail through yuour BROWSER because i do more than use a browser when im on the computer. Its much better in every way to be notfied via system tray. I wanted a better tool for checking mail than gmail notifier, thats all. I would like to see this program as standalone very badly. I think it would spread very fast.

Works great for Firefox 1.5 and is not currently supported for unofficial releases of Firefox. Please don't give incorrect ratings for software that is not a supported release. Thanks.

@Fred-Erik - the purpose of this xpi is so you DONT have to load another program just to check your mail, it also gives prompts when it finds new mail, etc.
Just because you dont use something is no reason to only give it 3/5.

Fred-Erik reviewed v0.4.1 on Jan 3, 2006

@integrii: Why do you want this tool for Opera? Opera already has a build-in mail client, and with Gmail supporting POP3, you can check your mail with Opera. Also more accounts at once, yes.

What's the use of this utility? If you want to check of you got (G)mail, you use you're mail client. Why would you use this utility?

"I want this so bad, but I use opera and it dosent have a stand-alone version. This would be perfect, if it wasnt a stupid firefox extension. Firefox has half the exploits of IE now anyway, move on ppl.. opera is next."

Wow! In case you missed it Integrii.... people are moving on... leaving IE and moving on to Firefox. I find it humorous that you think something is stupid yet you want it so badly. Maybe.... someday... IF Opera ever becomes as popular as Firefox someone will take the time to write the code or port it for Opera. Somehow... I doubt it.

Why not, punkesito? Got your panties in a wad over the Mozilla foundation?! If you paid any attention, this supports more than just Firefox, idiot.

This worx gr8, saves me a fair amount of time.

The more browsers this can work with, the better-- if it now supports netscape, i will try installing the plug in to opera....hopefully...then the only thing needed would be porting it to Maxthon, and we'd be all set.

Nice idea

@darthbeads
you could use FreePOPs (http://freepops.sourceforge.net/en/) along with Magic Mail Monitor (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mmm3), both freeware.
Those proggies really rock!

darthbeads

darthbeads reviewed v0.4.1 on Jan 2, 2006

A nice Firefox plugin, but where's a nice freeware alternative for a proggie that just sits in the system tray and checks multiple GMail accounts? I don't want to have to have FF running to check all 3 of my GMail accounts....
