It actually cut down on system resources from previous releases but still needs some work.eh it's beta..
The program needs a compact mode of some sort.I think it may be hard for other people to navigate and that's why not many people use this.
I can't tell yet but are there actual groups or just shout out pages with content?
This program needs to be modified a bit or given the ability of skins so users can arrange the content to suite their needs.
There is something lacking which makes this program hard to digest.
Keep up the good work,though.. hope to see future releases..

The Beta 2.0 version returns an error message when you try to create a group, or invite a friend. Avoid this software until it is fixed.

The new release of Grouper (v 1.3) fixes it's most troubling performance problems, giving the user options for balancing bandwidth use of upstream and downstream file transfers and other applications you may have running at the time. It also adds features to enhance its use as a social communications tool, even building a "mini-email" tool into the client.
For strengthening its social networking power, group creators now have the option of "listing" their groups on a public Web page (soon to appear) so that people interested in the focus of their group can send a "request for an invitation" to join. Group creators still have the option of turning down a request, but can ask questions to see if there's a good match.
It's a much more useful tool than it was a month ago, but it only gets a 4 rating because it still lacks the public Group Directory that will help attract new members.

I've been looking for a program that my friends' and I can use to share our files and haven't been satisfied until I tried this program. I agree that the other filesharing apps are nice but thats not really what I was looking for. Just something for my friends and I too pool our files together on that doesn't require people to know how to set up an FTP.
It would be cool to download MP3s but the streaming feature is surprisingly usefull and to contradict sp4wn, actually uses very *little* bandwidth.

Decent program, not on-par with regular P2P programs, but a good solution if you want to setup a secure connection with a select group of people over the web.
Needs some more features (like the ability to download whole folders, rather than each individual file, skinning, etc) before it really becomes worth the effort to setup.

RE: SP4WN (Pardon the pun ;) - This is for LEGAL use, It's legal to stream MP3's to your friends. Also, this isn't even close to streaming radio off the internet. Here you get to select the song you want to listen to that your friends have, not listen to some radio queue online. Not to mention this program is secure as it gets. This is a great program, been using it for about a month now. PC Mag gave it a great review, I don't have the link but I'm sure you could search for it.

From developer site FAQ: "How do I download music? Grouper does not allow you to download music files. Instead, you can borrow your friends’ music by streaming their files.
Now why should i bother my friends and take their bandwidth to stream music when i can just pick one of many streaming radio options. To transfer other files i could just DCC in irc or use a messenger program. The idea is nice, but downloading music files is a key feature, so don't even bother downloading it.
Whatever PC mag or The Wall Street Journal wrote about this program doesn't change the fact that you can't download mp3s, and legality is not even part of the question cause you can still download large .avi, .lit or .pdf files which could be copyrighted material. I guess this is a good program if you want to share your family vacation pictures.
