Gotta give this great app another five stars. I found a new use for this software while customizing my shopping cart. The price for this software is really a steal.

I am assuming that this update makes it compatible with Firefox's version 10 that came out yesterday. Firefox warned me that the Hypersnap plugin was not compatible with the upgrade. Hypersnap was quick to update their product. Good stuff.

To be clear - HperSnap 7 does not support OCR when text is part of image. It does only OCR from web browsers, dialogs and so on.

Nice software.
For OCR only few langs try - Boxoft Screen OCR 1.5 (http://www.boxoft.com/screen-ocr/)

"this software can capture text. I can then use Nuance Omni Page Pro's OCR to translate it"

I don't get it:why do you need to use OCR? HyperSnap-DX already captures text in usable form. This feature alone makes me rate it a 5, and it remain in my toolbox.

This is a nice feature packed application. I like the fact that this software can capture text. I can then use Nuance Omni Page Pro's OCR to translate it into a Word Document and such if I desire. I purchased this software while in version six and updated it as soon as they came out with version seven because of it's power.

Full-featured and mature without being a bulky mess. Can do everything I need it to do and surprises me when I discover a new ability after using it for many years. Glad it's still being developed.

"HyperBloat-CX (for Crapix)"

You successfully proved and confirmed that you find it worthwhile to pretend reviewing something about which you are totally ignorant.
1 - "crap": it works extremely well. Between others, the text grabbing feature and its autoscroll function alone make it an excellent app.
2 - "bloat": 37 files, 7.4MB, and sitting on my pen drive because it can be made portable. If you call that bloat, I suppose that the only applications you do not call bloat are the Windows notepad and calculator. I mean if this one is bloat, I can't imagine what SnagIt is.

I use this capture tool every day at work. It is one of the few tray apps that I actually approve. One of the best things about this program is the Save menu. It has everything but the kitchen sink when you Save As, and it remembers configuration. Cropping could be a little easier, but this application has increased my productivity 68.542%!

"Says it can capture rounded windows like Aero, but that's not a capture option, only a crop option."

This is incorrect. Click on Capture, Capture Settings, Region, Default Region Shape, and you can choose the capture style, including various types of "round"...

cricri_pingouin is right: there is no freeware app equivalent. But now that you have a 64-bit version of HyperSnap-DX, you're well covered.

cricri_pingouin

cricri_pingouin reviewed v6.11.02 on Oct 9, 2006

HyperSnap-DX allows you to capture regions, windows, controls, free-hand regions, etc you name it. It then allows you to add stamps, effect, cut out strips, highlight, etc you name it. It evens allows you to capture text from any region/control/window. You can even capture combined areas or scrolling windows.
If you know any program (nevermind programS, I just ask for one) which does "same thing for free" (sic), I'll gladly accept the fact that I'm a philistine.
I wish people could ensure that they actually know what they are talking about, i.e. by actually testing a software before attemtping to write a so-called review full of biased lies.
I'll rate it a 4 because for $5 more, SnagIt remains a better deal.

Hard not to love HyperSnap, but it does some things not quite right. For example, when adding a 1px black frame/border, the right and bottom borders are actually 2px wide, with no option to add the frame to the inside of the image, only the outside, like it or not. And don't leave on the auto-frame option for white backgrounds or it will add two frames! Also, in this version, I could not get the zoom setting after capture to work consistently (100%).

HyperSnap's menu structure is brilliant, but it lacks keyboard shortcuts throughout the program rather than just for capture profiles. Other features, like the vertical/horizontal cut-out strip and photo editing are intuitive and more accurate than most advanced editors! I love this version, but the frame/border problem is a dealbreaker for me.

I've not used the latest version, but I'm a registered user. Found this the first time I went looking for a paid screenshot app.
It worked great and gave you a lot of features, but it doesn't have the ease of use, stability and features of SnagIt, which I bought too. LOL

Tried doing a scrolling screenshot of a false positive report from Spy Sweeper, so I could submit it to their support.
HyperSnap-DX crashed and SnagIt didn't.
Got me a scrolling screenshot (JPG) of 6 MB.

At present HyperSnap can't rival with SnagIt IMHO.

Bought it years ago and it's always been a good program so I'd recommend it.. though I haven't tried SnagIT so I can't really say if that's better or not, but like most of us I'm not rich so I'll prolly stick to this one..

I use it, because SnagIt create "exeption faults".
Under SnagIt my pc roduces error, as soon as I am work extensively and a long time with it.
HyperSnap run stable.

zridling reviewed v5.62.04 on Feb 11, 2005

While Hyperionics continues to improve HyperSnap only incrementally, and it's "good enough" for most users, it doesn't match its rival's power, features, and ease of use. Even with this version, Hyperionics refuses to allow the user full customization over HyperSnap's interface and options. For what it does, it does well, but still needs improvement throughout.

Also, [Bachalor] should be corrected: SnagIt offers versions in English, French, Italian, German, and Japanese. While I don't know about "student" support, it is one of the best "customer" support software companies I've ever encountered. Inarguably, I've never, ever had a "slow" moment or process occur in SnagIt, even with video capture.

Bachalor

Bachalor reviewed v5.60.03 on Aug 14, 2004

I see, that the actually version is also avaible in GERMAN. SnagIt works slowler, only avaible in ENGLISH :-(
ANd the author from HyperSnap supports students better than the competition. Therefore was HYPERSNAP my personally favorit.

I have been a long time licensed user of HyperSnap until I discovered SnagIt.
Snagit is much more user-friendly
- snag-features are more to the point and easy to choose.
- it integrtes with IE & MS-Office programs
Briefly : Snagit is the number 1

zridling

zridling reviewed v5.60.00 on Apr 13, 2004

Although I like HyperSnap, it can't compare to SnagIt's feature set, probably because SnagIt's actually work. HyperSnap tries to be a photo editing program, and in its kitchen-sink approach to features, almost all of them are poorly implemented. TechSmith's SnagIt also releases solid builds and versions, whereas HyperSnap's builds are one ongoing bug.

This Tool was generally good. There was a 'little' problem for student or pupils. The price is for this target group relaitv expensively set. I am a pupil, but I have not creditcard(s) and I have very much interest in this program - is however expensive for me.
