Make it open source and run on Linux and you got yourself a winner, maybe.

I just discovered this program yesterday and I already love it. This program creates a recovery record for a set of files, so if any of the files ever becomes corrupted, you can repair the corrupted data.
I was amazed by how well this program works. I tried it on some files, I purposely deleted some of the files, and this program recovered them all 100% intact.
I make a recovery record for every one of my backups now.

As you can see from my previous comment below, I've been using this program for a couple of years.

Brilliant program.

And now faster then ever. (not that speed was a real problem before)

3.6Gb / 399 folders / 8828 files
10% redundency

Took about 8 minutes to create the ECC files (I was doing other stuff on the PC)

I then deleted (actually moved to another folder) 10 entire folders (approx 500 files)

ICE ECC recreated the missing files / folders perfectly.

Excellent Reed-Solomon implementation. Only one big problem - this thing chews up a MASSIVE amount of memory, over 300Mb with the amount of files I've just fed it. YMMV.

Pretty good tool. I only wish it was open-source - this is the kind of thing you want to know you'll be able to use 10 or 15 years down the road to restore old data.

If you use ZIP format to backup anything important to you, then you better use ICE ECC to guarantee their integrity, given ZIP's unreliability. A great app and format that is more robust than PAR. Best of all, it's superfast.

sometime ago i had downloaded (beta3 i think) but it was dead slow on my laptop (centrino 1.4 ) now it rocks and it seems promising

(check their site beta5 is available)

An amazing effort! It might not replace PAR/PAR2, but it doesn't need to! I couldnt care less about newsgroups and stuff - all I needed was a method to protect my CDs/DVDs. And with PAR/QuickPAR that is virtually impossible - lack of support of subdirs, speed, memory usage, and so much more! ICE ECC solves all this and adds much more - the author is willing to cooperate and add new features (I alone suggested header redundancy and sliding window, and here they are!)

Thumbs up, and best wishes to the author!

p.s. command line support would be nice;p

Excellent tool! This is much much faster than PAR and from a few tests, it does indeed recover data when PAR will not.

Nice technical achievement but it realistically doesn't stand much chance against the installed base of PAR/PAR2. It's like MP3 vs. Ogg and the many other formats which are clearly superior to MP3. Once people get comfortable with a standard, it will take a MASSIVE improvement to convince them to switch. Although ICE ECC is much better, it's not a MASSIVE improvement.
