If I would have a chance to rank it 6 out of 5, I'd do that! A must tool for everyone who works in LaTex!!!!

I work with bibliographies almost every day. I have to say that JabRef is IMO damn good, much better than Biblioscape and EndNote in almost every aspect (however, still not perfect ;-)). It works surprisingly fast with Java RE 6.0 beta 2 (http://fileforum.betanew...onment_JRE/1011824317/1 - JabRef requires Java). If you have to sort many thousand records it is considerably faster than EndNote 9!
JabRef is also very intuitive, IMO on par with Scholar's Aid 4.
There is another open source reference manager named Bibus but it makes more problems than it solves. Using Bibus is IMO a form of torture, esp. if you use it in multilingual environments.
JabRef is multiplatform (not only for Windows as some could think of the software after reading "Jabref for Windows 2.1 beta 2"), so you can relatively easy exchange the fruits of your work with someone who does not use Windows (like Linux or Mac OS X).
