Do not install Jungle Disk on your computer. It leaves a lot of junk behind that it impossible to remove. The little icons on your folders are impossible to remove. I've made several attempts to get this issue resolved with tech support but no one has been able to resolve the problem. This is junk. I can't believe Jungle Disk has this poor of customer service and technical support. I repeat. Save yourself a lot of headaches and do not install their junk software.

Jungle Disk is one of the best tools for making backups to S3; but a new alternative is available in beta, called CloudBerry. There's a review comparing the two at: http://bit.ly/gkyS7

By default restores every file and every folder ever deleted or renamed. Jungle Disk simply does not have the option to age deletions so they get purged out eventually. Instead either restore way more files than actually got deleted by mistake, or never get the chance to recover from deletions. Strangely they do handle versioning, so it baffles me why they could not implement deletion aging. You should also know that files restored lose their creation date, which is reset to the restore date, so it’s harder to recuperate from the problem. Support was just awful and since I did not loose data, they were very insensitive to the hours lost and major mess caused. Took 3 weeks to diagnose problem and some 30 back and forths. 4 weeks for resolution. Did give $20 software price refund.

I was surfing around and found this site on Jungle Disk. I listened to Leo Laporte's podcast talking about Jungle Disk and gave it a try. So far I love it, especially the peace of mind it provides. I also wrote my thoughts on it at www.macnwinblog.com. See what you think.

For five cents a month you get 250mb of storage and 25mb of transfer. How does that work? That would take you 10 months to fill the space up without going over your bandwidth allowance, not to mention it you had to retrieve data from there. I don't wanna sign up and find out, but something tells me they charge huge bandwidth overage premiums, which would make this service an even worse deal.
There are plenty of web hosts that can do far far better that these prices. With my current web host I get 75GB of storage and 600GB a month of bandwidth at the price of $90 for fourteen months. If you did the math for the equivalent amount of storage on this host, it would come out to $160 for twelve months, and you'd only be getting about 16% as much bandwidth for a whole year as the web host gives you for one month, not to mention all the additional things you can do with a web host.
There are also a few free alternatives to this:
* Mozy Remote Backup which offers 2GB and also has premium service available for slightly better prices than Jungle Disk. http://fileforum.betanew...ote_Backup/1133484553/1
* Use your Gmail 2.7GB and one of various free programs that allows you to store files there. http://fileforum.betanew...Mail_Drive/1097807577/1

JungleDisk caches data locally to minimize the number of bytes uploaded and downloaded.
Remember that you only pay for what you use! If you have 1.2 GB of data stored, you only pay 18 cents! If you only have 100MB that's only 2 cents!

I'm wondering, not complaining, about the efficacy of such a business model: in the face of beacoup free sites, and at such a low price point-- why not make it ad-driven instead? They have already the A3 toolbar for shopping rebates from the toolbar: they should marry all three things-- the storage included w/ install of the toolbar...add pay per view/click ad feature, and combine that with the shopping rebates. Then, from that they could always deduct storage fees it they wanted-- though it wouldn't be needed. They could also further add other capabilities like email storage & some fast download technology like maybe Bitorrent...Opera would be a perfect marriage for them, having these features...add free/cheap voip too, just like Lycos, Aol, etc.-- tie that into the Amazon storefronts too, just like Google....
Such a shame-- all these toasted-brain, yuppie-scum cum wasp frat animals stumble onto these CEO jobs thru blue blood entitlement, while a beautiful mind like mine remains so under-utilized... LOL
