Unfortunately, KIS newer and newer versions are getting worse and worse.

Basically, their antivirus signatures are among the best that is one thing that raised Kaspersky. But today in modern computing virus definition and its traditional work does not give more than 40% protection.

And that is where Kaspersky loses the game. While its traditional antivirus is still brilliant, the other features – heuristic, network attack blocker, application control, firewall, system watcher, full scan, vulnerability scan, self-defense, parental control – are terribly buggy, work unreliably and have serious compatibility issues. New releases of their new versions are unusable they are only getting better from version G or I after many patches and after a good 6 months.

Newer versions are getting heavier and slower. I have been using and have installed from KIS 7 to ....KIS 2013, 2014, 2015 on three different language platforms after clean install of Windows XP and Windows 7 and they produced different incidents. Too many for listing here.
Features in the “Tools” section such as " Microsoft Windows Troubleshooting, Vulnerability Scan, Privacy Cleaner, Browser Configuration " are retrieving many false results and potential danger to your system if you decide to click the “Fix” button. Please be prudent using these functions.

These bugs might present themselves differently on different OEM and language platforms, but on the whole they present danger on every platforms.

As if it wasn’t enough, Kaspersky support – again might be different in many countries – is very poor, insufficient, and often arrogant or rude as it happened to me.

Said thing to see, how the arrogance of big and multinational companies gained on Kaspersky.

These bugs haven't changed, remained unfixed and are the same from KIS 2012 on, it seems they don’t even care and gave up further development of compatibility, and functionality. These deficiencies and carelessness as well as their arrogance of the last 3 years convinced me that I’d better look for and find an other IS softpack.

Kaspersky is totally hopeless and although their advertisement and marketing technique is getting better and their product is offering more features and security, in reality this is all false, nothing more than inviting promises while the quality of their product is seriously degrading.

Music4Ever is right, it is a beta so there must be some bugs. That's why it's called beta, find errors and post the error. If you do not like the beta so wait until it's out of beta. Then you might want to give it 5 stars you know.

@NoMac -

'I gave it 3 stars based on the products current status and reputation, as well as the reviews currently posted.'

Exactly you rated it on the reputation of Kaspersky not on the version released - If you are beta testing it's of no help to whatsoever to Kaspersky if you give glowing reviews if there are major issues with a product that need sorting, that’s the idea of beta software being released, they need to know how the product is working on users PC’s & if there are problems they need to know what they are. Your comment 'wait for the final' is gormless.

BTW I'm no lamer & have used IBM clones since the 286 so this is not my first day. As to reviews posted I am the only one who has taken the time to download 2013 on ‘File Forum’ then installed & tested it. I doubt very much if you have done that. I also tested the separate AV also.

You are obviously a Kaspersky fan & that's fair enough but when you test a product you run & comment as it is NOT on what was or what your prediction of the final will be. As for new additions I have read each & every change-log. And I stand by my review of the RC, it was unbelievably buggy.

Before you have a go at me at least download & run the versions posted here as it doubtful that you have & you are certainly actually running version 2012 as betas of 2013 have been unusable - I've used just about every AV on the market & some of the 'new' additions are to be blunt gimmicks as are some of the new add-on's to Norton & Bit-Defender for instance. The Firewall module of Kaspersky is still easily taken out, & you are far better off with the AV & a standalone Firewall. AV companies are now in a rut of having to release a new version each year just because the rest do, they would be far better consolidating a version rather than a new version & interface each year.

You are a typical person who has used the same product for years & can't deal with any criticism - I too have used Kaspersky also & is OK but no better than many other AV’s out there.

As for a any one AV being the best that is a very subjective point of view, there are many aspects of what is best & if you take time to look at the various AV review sites it changes from month to month some are better at zero day exploits, some the Firewall is perhaps more robust, others have a much better customer service if you have issues & the list goes on & on. What is obvious is a need for layered protection & not reliance on any one product & that includes Kaspersky as no product is 100% effective no matter how much you wish it were.

Install the products you review next time or avoid beta test sites as necessary negative reviews of pre-release obviously upset you .

'Next to Sophos, which is not available to consumers, Kasper4sky products rank No. 1 next to Bitdefender, so that's where I base my review on! '

So it's not actually 'your' review at all, it is others reviews & what you have read that you are basing 'your' opinion on, this renders all your reviews of Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 totally invalid - You cannot review something you have never used ~

A sub Alpha would better describe this - Highly unstable, frequently locked up, requiring a forced re-boot, clicking on the 'Buy Now' tab caused the program to have a total nervous breakdown & requested I send a system error report of 67Meg!

Some of the modules are gimmicky the program caused me to swear several times, quite fast scanning, hopefully these issues will be sorted although I did not send a 60 odd meg report so they won't get feedback from me.

Buggered several sites up totally including the net-speed test site, it nicely converted my quad core PC into a 286, well done Kaspersky.

As it is, don't bother yet unless you enjoy being annoyed.

EDIT: To add insult to injury I noticed that IE9 did not work, removing Kaspersky, including hidden files & registry entries did nothing to alter this situation. A full C:\ image restore was required.

If you do not have a recent full OS image don't even think about installing this. I therefore now give it one star, & that's one to many.

Hi there,

I think you guys should check out http://www.opswat.com/ there are 2 or 3 products that may be a match. I think that OESIS Framework at http://www.opswat.com/products/oesis-framework provides a single interface to many antivirus and Kaspersky is in that list. Another option is, I think, Metascan at http://www.opswat.com/products/metascan which is more for ISV.
I also found that Kaspersky is certified by OPSWAT at http://www.opswat.com/certified.

I hope this helps.

I'm using the 2010 version. Push the fix it now button and either it is very slow
responding or does not respond at all. Asks about the same files over and over
even though you've previously said to exclude it. Irritating, slow and not very
good at catching many threats. Will not clean viruses that plant themselves into
the system restore either. You must disable system restore for that. Had to
use Mav to get rid of another annoyance. Needless to say, Kaspersky site
says nothing about these problems. When I first installed, all was calm and
all was bright. Now, my system slows down with every upgrade and even
worse, updates stall many times at 97%. The only way to fix is to reboot
and start again. I will not buy this program in the future.

Kaspersky disables software bought from "non-authorized" vendors

Be forewarned that Kapersky has a rigid distribution system and does not support software that is not purchased from an "authorized" sales outlet such as Kapersky.com or Best Buys. There is no way of telling in advance if a website is "authorized" or not. They have only a handful of "authorized" sellers. Kaspersky will disable your purchase if they don't like who you bought it from.

For example, BuyCheapSoftware.com sells manufacturer software that has been trans-shipped back to the U.S. from overseas distributors -- where software is often sold much cheaper.

This can result in your software being disabled.

A case in point: Kaspersky Antivirus 2010, which I bought in late '09 from BuyCheapSoftware.com.

Kaspersky's internet-based reg code authorization system is capable of detecting trans-shipped software. It will register your software initially, but will disable itself later (Kaspersky apparently runs occasional checks of IP's against the region of the registration code).

When Kaspersky disables your software, they will not tell you why-- it will say that you have "exceeded the number of authorized installations" and disable the program.

Kaspersky claimed I bought "illegal software" and refused to honor my purchase I was confused by their assertion, and did some sleuthing to isolate the source of the problem. I figured out that my software was burned in Malaysia by Kapersky's Singapore distributor (antivirus365.net) for the Asian market. antivirus365.net is an authorized Kaspersky distributor for several Asian countries, and they are apparently trans-shipping software to the U.S. at lower prices.

Legally speaking -- Kaspersky's internal distribution problems do not make my software "illegal", nor does it entitle them to disable software. But that is what Kaspersky does. I raised hell with Kaspersky and escalated to higher management twice before they gave me a new reg code.

Secondly, while Kaspersky is great software, I cannot recommend it because there is no access to human support on their website and you have to do a lot of sleuthing to get to a human being. They have tech support phone numbers published that only send you to sales, who won't do anything. Their customer care email responses are horrendous-- they just send you copies of boilerplate from their website. In my case the response wasn't even related to the version of Antivirus that I reported the problem on.

Caveat emptor!

Try it, but Windows is crashed after 80% update database, reboot and totally freeze PC, try to uninstall in safe mode, reinstall but again after 80% of update program memory is crashed and reboot.. I have been a fan of Kaspersky for a long time, but now I'm really tired of it and uninstalled it. The problem with Kaspersky is that it has lots of compatibility issues and bugs and when asking for help their only solution is to uninstall other software (because its never their fault other software is incompatible) or disable settings (instead of making them work). Don't even think about installing Kaspersky on older computers because it will slow down the pc a lot. On-demand scan is very slow and can make the computer almost unusable if you have lots of archives (kasperskys solution for this is to disable scanning of ALL archives, which I really don't want to). Kaspersky was once good, but seems to get worse by every new version.

I really wanted to continue using Kaspersky, because the detection rate is one of the best and the hips/firewall seems to block most malware. Unfortunately the trouble with Kaspersky isn't worth it. I haven't decided what I should replace it with, but currently trying the free version of Avira AntiVir, it doesn't slow down the pc and scan is very fast, althought I don't feel as safe with it (maybe i should?).

Undesired Username, I guess something is not right with your computer if it crashes often.try clean install+all updates and using up-to-date drivers. I also find most problems encounter by users stem from the user installs the newest version without uninstalling the old version first.

the 2009 version has been the best version for me so far. I've been using KIS since version 7.0. That old version gives me a lot of problems ranging from blue screens to cannot surfing because of its firewall. The 2009 version is running flawlessly; no crash, really good memory usage. My only complain is that proactive defense will take a long time scanning any new first time opened application. Other than that, it's excellent, especially detecting threats.

The problem with yammering on about "detection rates" and "HIPS" and all that crap is that it leaves out two critical issues: Stability and performance.

My main problem with KIS is stability. No product is "the best security solution" if it makes your system freeze or crash.

This moment of obvious sensibility brought to you by a non-fanboy.

emperordarius reviewed v8.0.0.454 on Sep 8, 2008

This is by far the best security solution.
Very very fast and stable, scanning is extremely fast, and resource usage very low. It also provides the best protection against malware and spyware. Everything that escapes it's signature detection is ALWAYS caught by either heuristics, HIPS or Proactive Defense. And everyone who says that kaspersky isn't the best or that the previous version is better is a big fat ****ing idot.

After upgrade from KIS 2007 to KIS 2009 on my machine.

When I done Full scan, I tried to open the report to see any virus infected or not. Once I open the report if I change "don"t group" (or) "Group by result" immediately my the KIS 2009 application hangs... I waited more 30 MINUTES same time I am unable to open any application the application which I was open earlier.

I am VERY UNSATISIFIED WITH THIS NEW VERSION KIS 2009. I had no these kind of issue with Previous verison KIS 2007.

When I opened the KIS 2009 Report window and tried to view "Yesterday" report, immediately got hangs all the application , (KIS 2009 main window, Report window & other applications as well)

I am UNABLE to close these windows even through Task Manager and Unable to shutdown the system all getting hangs... Only way I can switch off using unlplug the switch.

I NEVER RECOMMEND KIS 2009 instead stick with KIS 2007

Regards,
Mic

This is the best Security suite that exists nowadays. It doesn't have any bug, except for a single GUI, never had any crash or BSOD, very very light on my system. It IS the best for the simple fact that it detects 99.9% of threats. Just see: 98% by signature, 42% by heuristics and 68% by HIPS. And all the people who say that is not stable or something all of you are ****ing idiots, go there with your stupid NOD32 that gets owned by the first virus that it's "legendary" heuristics fail to find, or go with Avira which doesn't clean anything, or with Norton,McAfee or CA, which aren't even real antiviruses at all, they never detect anything.

bugs bugs bugs even more bugs on their forums, 430 works fine, 432 giving BSOD and lots of other problems, and it is just +2 in build number...

btw already realased, b357, although everyone else is having better performance with 4xx, although some 4xx builds are very buggy...

so I wonder, is this an alpha state software? how can you "update" your "robust" realased branch, with another build, that seems to bring more and more bugs :/

btw a comment I'm reading right now (been in a mood of kaspersky 2009 reviews/research) says it all for me, although they say the CHKDSK issue is fixed, THEY lost my trust aswell:
-------------------------

No that figure is not substantiated and I believe it is an exaggeration. I was involved in trying to track down this issue and here is my take.

Some users continue to claim there is no CHKDSK issue and other say that it breaks CHKDSK for them and a substantial number of users. The truth is that the CHKDSK issue actually effects all users, but it doesn't really break it. It just overwhelms it so that, depending on the number of files, it can take excruciatingly long for Stage 2 to complete. A few people report CHKDSK failing entirely, but I believe those users had other issues which compounded the problem. I question claims that KAV directly caused data loss.

KAV seems to have a chronic problem with scanning speed. For this reason, they have tried innovative methods of marking files which have been unchanged and which do not need to be scanned again. Their first effort involved adding ADS (Alternate Data Streams) to every file. They did this without informing the users. When it became a problem for some users they eventually offered an ADS removal tool.

They then abandoned this scheme (I think it was called iStreams) in favor of adding NTFS ObjectIDs to every file. This was called iSwift and again they did it without warning the user and without considering the consequences. It was this scheme that caused the CHKDSK problem. Furthermore KAV never provided a tool to remove these ObjectIDs even after the program itself was completely removed by the user. The user was stuck with the unwanted ObjectIDs and with CHKDSK slowdowns forever unless they had a drive image from before installation and scan.

What bothered me most was the KAV bunker mentality. In both cases they were late in admitting there was an issue and were less than helpful in solving it once the evidence became overwhelming.

KAV has since moved on to other versions. They may or may not have eliminated these issues in their latest offerings. I don't know, but I don't want to risk it again. Something about fool me once ....etc.

Above all I need to trust my AV vendor. I feel KAV betrayed my trust.

and little from KIS 2009 review on techizr.com, is this really what we need? (read a suite that does everything inc washing and ironing but from time to time causes BSOD ;)

web traffic scan? I don’t see the point in scanning my web traffic, then scanning all data that reaches my disk for a second time. Anti Dialer? I don’t even have a modem installed. Anti-Phishing? FF does a decent job. Anti-Spam? Again, gmail filters out 99% of spam, my ISP email address doesn’t get *any* spam (pretty unusual, I know!). Banner Ad blocker? Again, firefox + adblock plus is doing this job already. Parental control? …

---------

so a rating 3, IF the issue with NTFS streams is fixed, but I'm still not happy of altering all my files unnecessarily (not only because I own SSD disks (in RAID))

---------------

update, so iswift is still present, they just changed the method how it informs the chkdsk, but they still mess with files:

www.wilderssecurity.com forum

I was very supprised to see that everybody here say good stuff about kav2009, but no one critisize it.
I installed KIS 2009 TR on my home computer to test if they still have ichecker/iswift. Right after installation, I manually scaned one zip file, which is about 20MB on drive E:. Then I noticed that the "occupied space" on Drive E increased about 5MB after the scan. The total file size did not change.
What a shame. KIS is still writing CRAP on your hard drive!

---------

I am 90% sure they will keep iswift/ickecker in the final version. The fact why do they do this even when Microsoft specificly told them that the exploit of objectID in NTFS files as in iswift/ickecker is NOT recommended is truly beyond me.
---------

so here it is...a no go, rating 1, and the funniest thing is you can't officialy get a statement about ichecker/iswift tech for KIS2009, whereas it was _such_ a great tech before the CHKDSK big problems began...

although in "setting up" the KIS 2009 is listed;)
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=193239261

Make that my system too. (that runs perfect with any flavor of KIS)

I've been using KIS since early version 7, upgraded to version 8 when the beta became available, and haven't had an issue yet. - In fact, EVERY beta of version 8 has been perfect on my system.

Resource hog? Right now, it's using up a grand total of 14,000 K...that's resource hungry?? How much RAM do you have?

And, to top that off, when it scans/updates/etc., it's set to release resources for other programs - maybe something that some of you should check into...
I can literally play any hardcore game in DX10 and scan (deep rootkit with full detailed heuristics enabled) without a single stutter, so I can't even fathom what some of you are talking about, unless you're still using the old K6 or P3 systems with maybe a meg of RAM to share.

All in all, KIS has caught EVERYTHING that I've thrown at it. I've beta tested for Kaspersky for a little over a year now, and under virtual OS with KIS 7 or KIS 8, there's absolutely *nothing* that it hasn't caught, never crashed or even slowed down my systems (and I have KIS 7 or 8 on 6 different computers - that's only 2 licenses for those of you that don't know)

KIS (any version 7 or higher) is worthwhile, and KIS 8 carries itself better than anything before it - I wouldn't use anything less.

Of less importance but still worth noting is that the GUI just keeps getting worse too. It looks like it was designed by Fischer Price, version 6 was the best one to date

Here is how my latest Kaspersky experience went:

1. I installed it, went through the wizard, and rebooted.

2. I spent 5 minutes responding to alert after alert after alert.

3. I discovered one serious problem after another:

* I found that my internet connection was totally dead.

* KIS had ALTERED SOME EXE FILES (the ones it detected "malware" in). One of these files, DriveSitter.exe, has integrity testing built into it, and threw an error and reset its configuration because of KIS, causing me to lose data.

4. I tried rebooting, but the system (which is normally very stable) hung during reboot, forcing me to do a hard reset.

5. I tried uninstalling KIS, but the uninstaller itself hung.

6. I tried using the KIS 2009 remover (available on kaspersky.com), but it did not detect KIS. So, I was left with a partially-installed copy of KIS, with a broken uninstaller and a nonfunctional "remover".

You probably want to blame this on the "beta", but this kind of nonsense is typical of what I've dealt with every time I've tried a Kaspersky product over the years--beta or finished product; it makes no difference.

1. there are sites that checks this unknown files (you can safely put them on a disk) with like 20 of antiviruses (not only one)

2. when you're not coi but you're clever, and using your computer as a standard user, not even running most of the worms and other malware will do any damage...root, windows, program files, HKLM registry...everything is blocked, not to mention UAC running. So coi, get the things right, and learn to read, I've written I am using _much_faster_ antivirus when I'm as administrator, just to be safe twice.

aaaa they are back (NTFS streams as data store should gone with version 8.0)? well then guess no go for sane user...can they at least be switched off now? (not like in older version where GUI switch is useless)

....

Fixes:

*The Chkdsk slowdown issue is fixed

well, instead of marketing provide us with technical data...chkdsk issue fixed?

well I wonder what was the fix as according to you it is still using NTFS streams of _every_ file for temporary data, which is simply stupid..

next thing, this days you almost don't require an antivirus not even a firewall, so security suite which contains weather report of ligthing strikes near your house is more or less just big resource hog. Like it has been said, if you want security, call your mother ;)

1. firewall... any HW router will do (wise users even know how to handle indbound connections)

2. antivirus... you don't need one for a few years now (NT4 times? limited user?), better get decent firewall instead. You aren't using your computer as administrator clicking on every porn e-mail you've got aren't you? And you are aware of sites checking files for viruses or not?

3. web protection...useless, when you have file/memory monitor and you aren't any proxy why the heck you're monitoring packets of _files_ you're downloading? they will be checked twice...

4. parental controls, phishing, content filtering .... everything works in vista much better, or in firefox with adblock plus, don't need third party program for it which is simply inferior (firefox is my first party love proggie ;-).

5. proactive defense... well another resource hogger just for me to feel more secure then with Durex.. I think vista UAC got the job done already (and improved in SP1).

so all in all nice antivirus ;) just my opinion is it went the way called -marketing- (read Symantec antivirus way), when all you need in the end is check this ONE UNKNOWN FILE you downloaded this week.. story done.

I am getting this +1 (not zero;) just because I HOPE when I switch off all the useless stuff it will be faster somehow...I hope so It has modular architecture. But thinking now, I don't know. Don't want to end with ****ed NTFS streams of my files...

using HW firewall on my router plus NOD32 2.7 happily - with all the modules switched off-, just memory/file scanning is running for just an administrator account...and haven't had a virus for 100 years , maybe I'm not the most avid porn watcher, but hell I'm a heavy internet user/developer. The best security is your mind, think before you click. And configure your machine properly...

sad NOD32 3.0 isn't working for me...said its bugs in my review.

Install was easy. Took quite some time to figure out
all the different setting on this security suite. This program has great protection.Good firewall, High detection rate, and you won't need a extra spyware detection program. Kaspersky does it all.
It didn't use a lot of ram, but still slowed down my system at times. Kaspersky was always scanning, that
I found to be the cause of the slow downs. I did a full system scan after I installed. I could find no reason for it to be continually scanning. If you look at the screen shot of Kaspersky , Computer protection running. That's what it did scan, scan and more scanning. It also slowed down my internet. All Web pages loaded slower. Some pages just a little slower other pages at least 25% slower.
Kaspersky also has a feature called anti-banner. It would block web pages I was trying to go to. At first I thought it was a problem with the firewall. Then found I could add pages to anti banner then view them. But who wants to have to go
into their security suite and add web pages all the time.
I just got done with a trial of Norton Internet Security 2008 and it was much better on my system
Leaner and faster. That was hard for me to believe
Kaspersky is a beta and At this time is not ready for Prime Time.

@Jammerdelray
The antivirus engine is not bad but loses to a few others, most notably Avira.

The firewall, at least in version 7, didn't complete all the leak tests. Version 7 also did manipulate the file system without asking the user in a way that would slow down certain operations permanently. Supposedly, this is fixed in version 8, but will there be a removal tool for the excess in the file system left behind by v7?
Still, as an overall solution this certainly does not rate amongst the worst and is preferable to some.

It's hilarious that someone would not only totally miss the point regarding the criticism of KIS's quality, but then argue some nationalistic crap about Russian vs. American programmers. Hey, news flash from someone who was a software engineer: It doesn't matter how good a programmer you are, it is the MANAGEMENT who decides how good or bad software is. They decide how much time you have to write the code, when the product is released, which (and whether) bugs are fixed, and when the new dev cycle begins. Take your jingoistic garbage elsewhere.

The comment about KIS being buggy was NOT restricted to this alpha software. If you take the time to read, the point was made that ALL release versions of KIS are buggy. I can testify to this, as I put up with crash upon crash upon crash and other bugs. Some were eventually fixed, some were not, and I gave up on others.

-sub-par firewall
obviously since it's not compleatly implemented yet.

-antispyware app gained in a buyout of another company
where did you here that, it's false

-an antivirus program that, instead of becoming more advanced in how it scans, just increases the size of its already monstrously large definitions file.
actually kaspersky has one of the smaller databases, other ones have bigger, the "allmighty" avira and panda have broken the 1 milion bar along time ago. also even if heuristics and other detection methods detect a malware signature is still added to have a complete and accurate detection.

I understand everyone's pain here but this is a f*cking ALPHA product (not even beta stage yet). OBVIOUSLY there are some bad bugs. But hang tight and let these Ruskies do their jobs! You guys have got to remember that Russians are superior programmers to their American counterparts. I DO however see a disturbing trend in these Russians seem to be slowly becoming like lazy American sub-quality programmers (e.g. Symantec) and that INDEED is disturbing. I hope they don't fall into that trap. As long as they don't, though, the final product should be in the top 3 AV's at the very LEAST.

I personally believe KAV/KIS will remain the top AV in the world as it currently is.

i think it is better for companies like kaspersky to beta test publicly their products because many people can give them feedback before going final on every release.

too many betas and betas NOT MEANT for testing (they should called them pre-alpha...so many warnings before testing etc..), we haven't seen robust version for 2 years...:/ but that is not a problem...

problem started with comment below (taken from Kaspersky antivirus review) summarizes it all...I don't like to screw my files/databases on my development monster with 4 raid fields...just because of placebo security.

advice? buy a HW firewall, and as antivirus, look elsewhere...ESET NOD? who knows...but at least it is an aplication which doesn't touch your files at all...ntfs streams and so on.

Until Kaspersky fixes the ADS ObjectID glut that occurs when iSwift is enabled, I cannot recommend KAV or KIS to anyone. Wilders Security, DSLReports, and even Kaspersky Labs' own forum recognize this as a massive problem as it addresses the NTFS file system in a way contrary to the API. There is no reason CHKDSK should take 6 hours longer than normal simply because of an AV installation.

EDIT:
I did some research on iswift and ichecker here:
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=193239261
and here:
http://support.kaspersky...av7/error?qid=208279501

and I don't like it at all :( It is doing to my beloved NTFS girl things it should not ;) And I can't really switch it off...solution, we should wait for KAV 8. Read this forum for more info:

Then it REALLY Slowed down the system, (worse that Norton 2007)

You know, at times like this I love Avast.

After years and years of various av programs, this is the only one which feels, looks, and acts like a program which takes it's duty seriously. If you configure it initially for maximum protection, it is unbeatable.(i've only used norton, mcaffee, avg free and antivir though). If a virus is found, it rips it out with ease. It really does seem to work, versus other AV programs which seem to have trouble dealing with virus', or even findng them. I've had many virus' and they've all been remedied without a hitch by Kaspersky.

Another plus is that deep scanning doesn't slow down my computer in the least (but i have 2gigs of ram so it might slow down others' computers).

This program however, is really expensive. As a poor man, i've been unable to afford it beyond the trial version. But you can buy a licence on ebay for $20, which i saw the other day which is a plus. Unknown if it works however if you have to uninstall Kaspersky av, reinstall it, and then re-enter the code.

This program kicks major ass.

******My above comment was for the Anti Virus program kaspersky sells. The Internet security version is the anti virus program with a firewall and a parental control.

The firewall in this program seems good. I have no knowledge about advanced attack statistics or anything above the basic configuration of the firewall though. For the basic setup of a high security firewall, it's easy to do, and it seems to be good.

I didn't play with the parental control.

Highly reccomended program!

Kav offical post re betas

Greetings Testers,
These versions you may see other users talking about and posting links are internal builds. They are not meant for general usage (even in the concept of beta testing) and are very buggy. More so Kaspersky Lab developers, testers and Forum moderators do not recommend installation of those versions on users PCs without knowing the consequences. These versions can have unpredictable behavior and can cause serious issues on the PCs.

Also since these builds are not intended for public usage, bug reports will not be payed attention to, will get no replies from the developers, and bugs may not be fixed at the current time, therefor creation of the usual topics for builds and bugs is not required or requested, Basically you install it if you are curious and will not recieve any support. Users who have minor issues with 7.0.0.125 (the release versions) are not encouraged to upgrade to these builds as it may cause more harm.

When the official beta versions which are destined for user testing are released they will be uploaded to the servers mentioned in the Frequently Asked Questions topic.

Version 7.0.0.125 is trainable to be the best all-around security software for the desktop, in my opinion, despite a recent failure in "Virus Bulletin" testing for the virus component.

Be sure to spend the time though, as the default settings are not the best. See what IP addresses are getting information from your computer at the first of the day's startup. Then block those IPs in Austrailia, Canada, and Asia. They may not be essential in the US... Train the scanner to not automatically scan at start-up, but schedule for the weekend after a manual scan of your whole computer system -- when you have time, soon.

Turn off Phishing if your browser does it anyway. Identity management is not as necessary for software to do it.... etc.

Pros: This suite appears solid in every way. Great anti virus, a firewall like they should all be, many scan options including a rootkit scan and an exceptionally large data base make this a stand out security suite, if you can run it. Personally, I found the interface easy to use and attractive. This thing will take some getting used to for an average user but I think it's a great all around package with every module delivering exactly what it's supposed to. The most surprising thing to me is how light it is on system recourses, even while running a full scan. Highly recommended for those who care about keeping a clean computer. The time alone this suite saves in cleaning or re-formatting a badly infected machine makes it worth every red cent of a purchase price. It does work exactly like I'd expect an effective security suite should!

Cons: Some will experience "band width" or "software" conflicts with "Kapersky". I did on my older machines. This version is great on my new "Vista" machine.

Norton is good but slow, Worst Updating System. I used Mcafee, AVG, Avast, Panda too. These also have a few problems. (for example, these are slow, poor GUI, )

This is my first review on this suite in almost a year. In that one, I was quite critical of it, mainly due to unresolved bugs and relative instability.

However, I now change my tune with this version (6.0.2.614) Eugene and his boys have developed it into an excellent product. it is stable, uses very little memory, no appreciable cpu cycles, and, most of all, it offers a plethora of outstanding and useful protection modules, the antivirus, of course, being the flagship of the suite. The installation footprint is an amazingly spartan ~16MB!

The "Proactive Defense" module with the Application activity/integrity controls, Registry Guard and Office Guard do not appear to offer the same kind of system control as a good, classic HIPS application such as System Safety Monitor, but it is still a worthwhile component, especially for those who know how to answer the alerts.

I'm also quite impressed with the firewall, as it offers directional, granular control of any application seeking network connections. It allows detailed logging of individually chosen apps, as well.

The antivirus has the option to scan only new and changed files, making it ultra quick for those who enable that feature.

There are some who might complain about the $69.95 annual subscription fee, but consider what you get for that: free upgrades/updates on antivirus, firewall, HIPS-like Proactive defense, and anti-spam. A bundle can be saved on two or three year subscriptions.

I'm not really a "suite" kind of person, but this package would easily be my first choice over anything else on the market.

Nice work Kaspersky.

these are BETAS they are supposed to have bugs, that's why they are tested.

And the developers don't have to publish their builds for testing, they do it because they want to.
nobody forces you to use them.
for me kav/kis has worked great from build 290 or so, there were only problems with a few beta builds (like 321 for example) which were quickly removed from the kav server.
if you are having such issues i think it's your fault not kav's.
so stop ranting and do something about it. go to the forum, create and upload trace logs to their ftp (i have done so numerous times). ranting here won't solve anything niether is saying "i have a bug", the test lab can't reproduce it without details.

Antibuddha reviewed v6.0.2.614 Beta on Feb 11, 2007

As noted in prior reviews, at present there isn't a security suite out there that wins in every category. After 3 years of using the Kaspersky Anti-virus product with complete satisfaction (KAV and Nod32 are the best AV's on the market) I switched over to the Kaspersky Suite for the following reasons:

1) Although the firewall component of this suite is probably slightly inferior to ZoneAlarm's, I use a hardware firewall and am more concerned about malware than network attacks. For me, the Kaspersky firewall component is more than adequate.

2) Not having subscriptions in sinc is a pain. I only have to deal with subscription issues with my AV/firewall once a year with this suite.

3) NOD32 does not offer a firewall.

4) I'm running Kaspersky on a Vista operating system. ZoneAlarm, like many other security products, was not ready at Vista release. This tells me a lot about which companies really have their acts together in keeping their products up to date. I have had no KIS/Vista compatibility or install issues.

5) Kaspersky support has been outstanding. The support group is exceptionally fast at dealing with inquiries/problems. Very professional.

"independent testing groups"?
Heh, yeah right.
Maybe you should check the 100% winners at independent Virus Bulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com) and see what AV programs score the highest year after year (NOD32, KAV). But Bit Defender's got a nice web scan.

Zone Alarm? Haha, good joke! Seriously, though. Agnitum Outpost Pro, Kerio, Sygate for personal PC firewalls. The included firewall here is almost as good as the ones just mentioned, and is a certified leak proof firewall with some very nice features only found in stand-alone firewalls. It will do the job, with some bells and whistles too. Good job, Kaspersky!

Still. The all-in-one concern is valid.
But.
You have to understand what the target audience is for this product. For the intended buyers this is one of the best (if not the best) and it's constantly upgraded and improved. It's also got a very low system profile.

The best Av, by independent testing groups is Bit Defender and the best firewall, by a hair is Zone Alarm Pro. Parental controls hotly debated, huh? I'm sure it was "people with common sense" versus "people who are Kaspersky fans and refuse to admit shortcomings"...

There isn't much argument against parental controls in an internet security suite. What, some people get hung up on the word "parental", and say "I don't have kids, so I don't need it"? Well call it whatever you want--"Proactive Site Blocking" or even wrap it into an existing anti-phishing feature.

The point is to block unsafe/undesirable web content. Obviously, an internet suite ought to be able to block sites known to harbor malware. It isn't a great leap to be able to block adult or other user-configured content. And since so many adult sites are a primary source of malware, good luck arguing that this feature doesn't belong...

No parental controls is something that has been hotly debated at the KL forum...they are not in everyone defiition of what a suite should have (you could use a standalone...there are some good ones about), no heuristics is just NOT true. The engine may not match up to NOD32's but it is there...and there will be a new engine released before the end of the year or so I gather, the spam component sucks...at first but after 4 months mine is now working very well...it just seems that it needs a longer than most training period, and the bugs just stick like glue...well, it is not yet a released piece of software but then again I have not really come across any major bugs to speak of...perhaps I am lucky.

comeoffit

comeoffit reviewed v6.0.1.393 Post RC on Sep 25, 2006

Well, this build seems to be pretty well put together. Faster and smoother than expected. I am a former Norton user who finally got tired of the blot that came with each new edition. As for Zankur, it seems he has alot of resentment towards this company. It may very well be that he was a part of the company, got fired and is now out flaming them for no reason other than personal revenge. Whether this is the case or not matters not. Either way what he is doing is very childish. Good night all!

Just because i speak from experience from using kaspersky,i am being accused??

Why can't kaspersky and their employee's like baldrick,baldron-tree and co can accept the bugs and the in-ability of kaspersky team to fix them.

Kaspersky's product are worst bug affected products in the market.

And if i am not objective, than why do you guys take a walk across the park, why not come up with facts and figures to prove me wrong!!!

The difference is big. And it that I respect Nod32 and respect ZoneAlarm, Outpost, Kerio, etc. Etc. Etc.
It is possible that it is bugs, I did not find them and I navigate Internet the whole day, but surely they will be solved.

This is one of the best all-in-one solutions available. With one application, I've replaced Proxomitron, Kerio F/W, and NOD32. KIS 2006 has alerted me to threats and viruses that NOD32 had otherwise missed. With a balanced configuration, impact on resources is quite low. The Proactive Defense feature requires a good deal of user input and interruption, so I've disabled the Application Integrity Control section. Configured as such, there is still a high degree of security to be had. A few nit picky bugs remain...mostly grammatical and semantical, but she's nearly ready for prime time. Thanks, Kaspersky!

This is a beta and how KL release their betas is up to them. I beta tested a number of the other suites out there and two crashed my PC. KIS has never done that beta or otherwise. Yes, some have been buggy but that is the world of betas. I would suggest that either you make useful/constructive comments (and those can be negative as well as positive), that can be of use to the people who frequent this site or don't bother at all. That is why I come to this site but your are rapidly putting me off having anything to do with it.

Generally I avoid these end user ratings systems like the plague. People tend to rate with emotions and not logistics. Hense you get the people rating it 10 out of 10 and the ones voting 1 out of 10 (because it didn't install right or whatever cause their tempers to flare.)
ANYWAYS. The software works good but it is definitely not without faults as I can see. Like currently on this system I have to make a rule to not block itself. I might have considered it a feature if they would have put the firewall pass rule on install.
As far as Symantec and McAfee AV go. Well at my work we use Symantec AV corp version. Since I am IT and a skilled programmer I decided to write a small application to monitor and log suspect internet abusers. The program would let me backdoor the suspect in question. I wrote the backdoor program 100% myself and borrowed not one line of someone elses code.
Symantec AV Corporate Addition has NEVER noticed my backdoor program. And yes I checked the logs forwards and backwards and there is no mention anywhere about a suspect backdoor. But when I decided to test Kaspersky on my workstation it instantly detected my program and reported it back as a new unknown type of backdoor program. I was very impressed and have been using Kaspersky AV at home ever since.
OH and also another developing workstation at my home has the backdoor code and binary on it and McAfee AV which has not detected the little backdoor yet either.
Kaspersky software may at times hog resources, but it definitely works. But when I go to play games I pause protection.

They can be a bit passe about bugs, but come on folks that is the attitude of Russians. I work with Russians all the time and if the bug is not killing too many people and leaving children orphans, than its not too big of a deal.
I found as long as you don't get teary eyed and emotional and keep drudging through the problem with their tech support they come through every single time. Symantec... good luck. If its not in their knowledge base report your problem and go away for 2 weeks and at which time you check back with the knowledge base. If its not there than you and your problem is not worthy of their attention (they say it really nicely though!) This is on the corporate level. I can't imagine the home editions are better.
I've been requesting the AV here get switched to Kaspersky AV Corp. But like most places you have to wait for the melt down before you can change and fix stuff.

Well thats my 2 cents for what its worth.

I give it a 3 because in my opinion it does a great job. Detection, you can set manual rules for any program, but it is not user friendly when figuring that part out.

It also does a complete startup check which can slow your computer down. I have a 3 gig system with 768 megs of ram and sometimes my system goes to a crawl when KAV is running.

Thats my only bit agains KAV. I agree, stick with the antivirus until they can get it to no be so invasive in its scan.

I did run Avast,AVG,Antivir,NOD32 scans, and KAV found whenusave when the others did not. I also verified it was there to insure it was not a fals positive. So I know KAV is a great product. Just to resource hoggy for me right now.

P.S
Norton and macafee are not that great. Norton literally installs items on your computer that the only way to remove them is through the command line.
NEVER will I ever put a norton product on my system.

Also as far as best detection, when I see a lagid company that I have heard of run the test then I might belive. But that's a old marketing trick. Run the test your self. I have used AVG free for years and see no reason to change.

Why does it matter at this point, Vista isn't even close, and I assume compatability will be created with MP1 this summer... I just dont understand what the big deal is... To give it a 2 b/c of no vista is pretty careless and misleading...

@Zankur

Yes this has been seen, and I bet the next time he rebooted it was back to normal... This tends to happen right after a version update like that, no big deal..

Hundreds of thousands have downloaded and been using Windows Vista Beta 2. Avast, AVG, Trend, E-trust and other companies have already developed vista-compatible versions of their product. Why Kaspersky has not? I´ll stick with Trend PC-cillin. Lightweight, fast and perfect. Goodbye Kaspersky!

PS: Don´t tell me that kaspersky works with Windows Vista if I disable the firewall and Proactive defense. If I do so, it would not be a security suite, just an anti-virus! I want the whole package, so for now I´ll stick with Pc-cillin.

Sorry, I misunderstood . You can check in the settings what it blocks and what it doesnt. I, for example, turn off the keylogger detection because it gives many false warnings. But, again, this is a beta product.

-The program itself is very light on resources considering how many modules are running.

-Blocks you from deleting some files, with some features selected ... care to give us examples, and state how exactly this is a bad thing?

-What are you basing your firewall assumptions on? The fact that you still use AOL tells the story here.

-Windows firewall passed 0 leak tests. You are a brilliant reviewer.

Now to the good stuff:

The Anti-virus passed with a 99.57 on the AV comparitives, and the newest proactive test scored in at 99.6%. These numbers are staggering. I personally dont care for using a firewall, spam filter, etc... so some of the features included with this package may not be for the home user, or they might (personal preference).

As far as spyware, virus, malware protection goes, you arent going to find anything even close to this.

Remember also, this is a beta. If you want a stable version, grab the trial from the website, version 6-300.

1. If you look in the update settings it clearly has a selection for "Update network drivers and attack signatures"

2. Anti-banner works just fine, it comes with predefined patterns as well as a developmental hueristics engine.

3. The firewall is very good, great rules management and filtering as well as attack detection.

4. The anti-spam is a relatively weak link, but I use gmail so I really dont care.

-This a great package amazing antivirus with some added functionality to make your security complete!

The final 6.0.0.300 is very stable and very fast! This beta is a beta release and so has a beta quality, but it has a amazing new staff in it comparing with 6.0.0.300.

And the Anti-Spam is based on BAYES filter (+ picture SPAM updates), you must teach. The server side Kaspersky Anti-Spam product has every 20 minutes updates and they are big, so it was desided to include a BAYES based Anti-Spam in home product.

ITS A BETA VERSION, THERE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BUGS!!!

How does this fact elude you people, this a website about all betas. WOW

If you help them with reporting bugs, instead of wasting people's time (and misleading them) you could be making the product better...

UPDATE:
If you are a true beta tester, you would realize there should be bugs in the program. All programs are like, but this Kaspersky just chooses to allow people outside the company to participate (and therefore see the bugs). If you are too worried about trying it (like Zankur etc.) then wait for the 6.0 final version to be released on May 15th. Otherwise have fun beta testing 6.1, and remember the point is to find bugs...

Also if you check the list of bugs, many are minute. And the person with the BSOD, please post the info in the forum, I am sure you get a very quick response on the forum. :) You probably have some program that is conflicting, maybe a second AV program. One person with a BSOD really does mean much in the long run...

Also Zankur you have been wasting people's time on this program for a long time (and misleading them along the way), why not just move along and find a different AV program already... If you hate Kaspersky so much just go away. Go off and fanboy for Norton some more.

I'm being kind, giving it a 3 only because the suite has potentail to be very good, but when can we realize that potential. Is it reasonable to expect a prolonged wait for a stable build? Of course not! It's taking way too long and long-standing bugs have yet to be rectified.

Please substantiate your claims or don't make them. I think that you will find that there are a number of issues with the MP1 beta release but you are giving the impression that the build that will form the basis of the commercial release in mid May is drastically flawed. This is not the case.

In my tests, and I have been running that build for almost a month, I have had no real issues. As I have said before I can replicate none of the issues that allude to. I don't know what you have installed but I cannot replicate any of the issues that you have raised. Every part of KIS works really well on my PC. The rule for Firefox does NOT pop up for every site visited. The Anti Spam, now that it is trained is working as well as the Mail Frontier component in ZASS, etc. Resource usage is super light (compared to some) and KIS is really 'quiet'. I agree with the Pop Up Blocker; that does need some more work. The star of the application is the Proactive Defense feature (similar to ZASS' Triple Defense Firewall but much more configurable IMHO).

It has had some issues but these are mainly worked out and the current build appears very stable. I would recommend any one who is looking for an all-in-one suite to include it in the list of candidates to be reviewed.

Hello all,

I suppose that Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 is the best SYSTEM SECURITY for now. I've tried it form the very beginning of its development...

As I see, this suite is as good as it gets. I’ve tried: Bitdefender 9.0, McAfee, Microsoft One Care, Nod32, Panda Internet security, Panda titanium. And none of them is suitable for full system defense.
The firewall from Kaspersky is very good: it has few different levels of defense, so it is your choice which to choose, whether you are a newbie or the professional you will find the best solution.

Other defense modules are really flexible, and customizable. Once you’ve configured Kaspersky antivirus or Kaspersky Internet Security you can easily save your configuration with all the firewall rules and etc.
Nevertheless during the installation or any time after the installation you can remove Kaspersky protection modules that you don’t use. For example: if you do not use Mail program such as Outlook so you don’t need to install mail antivirus and etc. This makes Kaspersky Internet Security very flexible.

I want to thank again, the developers of Kaspersky Internet Security suite. You’ve did a great job guys. There is at least a dozen of saved computers on your account.

Best regards

Pros: Easy to use, very powerful, and doesnt hog system resources. Updates every hour, or whenever you want it to.

Cons: Has a few bugs that I have encountered with intel based processors. The program will lock up and wont allow you to open any other programs until you disable the protection. Hopefully this is fixed before it goes gold. AMD processors - havent seen any issues.

I could not use Kaspersky Anti-Hacker because it made my system crash, and it was absolutely pathetic at blocking malicious outbound connections.

I would not use Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 because it absolutely killed my system's performance, and because it lacked an HTTP traffic scanner.

But Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 is a force to be reckoned with. It does very well on known "leak tests", it includes HIPS functionality, and has so many other features, most of your other security software will be obviated. It also protects itself from being deactivated better than any other software I know of. (Kaspersky has some really talented people on the staff.)

And, of course, the Kaspersky Anti-Virus (KAV) module is the single most effective in the business. By far. Most of the others are a joke in comparison.

Now that KAV sports an HTTP scanner, and no longer has a noticeable impact on performance, the choice, for me, is an absolute foregone conclusion: Goodbye, so-called "anti-virus" company who couldn't be bothered to staff your analyst team well enough have weekends covered, or to even process all submitted samples in less than three weeks (if ever--and very often, in fact, never). Goodbye, so-called "anti-virus" software that downloads HTTP traffic to disk, and then throws it at the target application all at once (or that serves only a notification function: "Hey, guess what? You just downloaded a virus. Your system is about to crash because this scanner sucks. Cool, huh?")

The one real disappointment for me is that the Anti-Spam module works very, very poorly. I found that with its default settings, it very often let spam through and incorrectly flagged legit email--including email from Kaspersky (ironic...). I know, it supposedly benefits from training, but (a) I don't need another hobby (manually tagging email) and (b) I've never seen a Bayesian filter that did me any good.

Regarding Kaspersky support: I sent an email the other day, and got a response in 10 minutes. That's 1/6 an hour. And this is for a non-customer regarding a pre-release build. (Non-customer because you can't buy KIS 6.0 yet.)

I've had a couple BSODs with this release, one system freeze, and one inexplicable loss of all connectivity. So, rating with a 5 is out.

But overall, assuming the stability issues are fixed, I'm psyched about Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS). Everything else can "KIS" my butt!

And yes in addition they don't have official email addys on their hp and NO official support, complaint, suggest, etc. forum!

Kaspersky does have all and more!

And only for your notice, the many prototypes, pre-betas and betas AREN'T for public!!

The only public betas, which are for any user to test and official public builds are available only on www.kaspersky.com/beta

And of course the support and feedback from the forum, mods and development + community is great!

Use your Symantec crap and go away!

Small review:

The performance and memory usage is great on both, KAV and KIS 2006. Please wait for final versions if you don't want bugs!

best regards,

Mr.CCC
the features you have given are pretty much there in other security suites as well...
There's nothing cool about it,what you could have said is fast-mode in ah and other stuff...
Never mind those daily updates if they ain'y broke...
And after over 100 builds and 12 release-candidates if you still have bugs running in to 10's of pages...then releasing a build everyday is of no use...
moreover, only thing kaspersky has over anyother antivirus is detection rates....
there are many features of norton which kaspersky doesn't have...and as a matter of fact, you have compared kis to norton, means,u also know norton is the standard!
and go and ask ur graf abt how he threw it accross my face!

All programs have bugs, Kaspersky just makes them public so people can help find and fix them, I am sure other security programs have just as many bugs.

Awesome program, great protection features, definitions updated every FEW HOURS computer to once a week for Norton. Has a Web AV scanner to stop HTTP downloads from even making it onto your computer. Great Anti-Hacker firewall as well. This is an awesome security suite.

i have tested their first build(.183) and after testing over 100 builds and 7 drive formats, they say,"your bug isn't on our priority list......"
when i said that uninstalling kaspersky causes harm to my registry and and my avg points towards kaspersky on start-up,outpost and other firewalls say u have a third party firewall on ur system...
isn't this a priority bug?????
how convenient!
since kaspersky's product is now through most bugs and is ready for release(acc. to them)....they dont need me!
moreso, the bugs are pretty much there, see their forum,forum.kaspersky.com,and see for urself!
even after over 100 betas, their product is having repeated problems!

The stuff kaspersky are providing is good, but you can't always say"best detection rate"and get away with other things..
The beta/alpha started at build.185 and lemme tell you that with every build new bugs or or old bugs keep floating in...
You should go ahead and try it only if you wanna be actively involved with beta stuff..
Their latest build(283) is till full of probs...old bugs are still there...
Plz,save yourself from trouble,or keep downloading new build everyday...and un-installin the prev.ones..
God knows when they will have a build which works w/o errors..

Trying to get the Firewall to simply allow 1 application to be forwarded a single port: impossible. Interface: Basic. Oh. Kaspersky Antivirus = the best.

Firewall = not my style.

I give them a 4, because this is perfect for those who want an "ALL-IN-ONE" product and this is better than Nortons/mcAfee all-in one. You only need so much from a software (application layer) firewall. So, using KIS, you recieve the best Antivirus protection along with decent application firewall protection and most likely behind a firewall. Keep updated and you'll have no complaints with this product!

The other suites software of Internet Security exploit this weakness to sell their packages that they perhaps have the inferior antivirus but the most efficient suite.

Everyone, do yourselves a favour and steer clear of these all-in-one security suites. The av in this product is, as always, first rate, but the fw is a piece of junk. Trend-micro offers the same kind of monstrosity with their internet security suite. Like KIS, theirs also has decent av and a crappy fw.

Individual apps are the best way to go. You have better control of the settings and - more importantly - better security for your pc.

c4p0ne

c4p0ne reviewed v6.0.12.175 Beta on Jun 23, 2005

I think Kaspersky labs may be a little in "over their heads" on this one. I hope the business pressure of jumping on the bandwagon of "all-in-one" solutions hasn't caused them to make a critical mistake.

There are EXCELLENT solutions available for EACH one of the things that the KIS suite does. Firewall/IDS's such as BlackICE, Sygate, Blink, etc.. AntiMalware solutions such as Ad-Aware, and of course AV protection such as Kaspersky.

Perhaps Kaspersky should have stuck to the AV scene where they are superior to all others? I don't know we'll see how all this crap pans out once a final version is released but for now, KIS DOES have some serious issues to deal with and they all have to do with the NETWORK components of the software.

In trying to deafeat other well accepted network protection solutions they may have inadvertantly created a "monster" by seemingly increasing the complexity of the network protection interface-part of KIS in every subsiquent beta that comes out. Russians are the best software programmers in the world, however, they need to swallow their pride a little on this one and take some examples from other software (or at least GUI-wize for their IDS components).

Hi ""jordenpro"":
Maybe you have right; But you find it correct, that a companies you force to pay after one year again?
That should decide each customer for himsewlf.

Nobody has the right to force people, that they MUST renew a licence, in my eyes is this the problem. Perhaps KASPERSKY product changes over the year.
Please not, that Microsoft offers Patches free of charge in addition!
But I WANT NOT every year a new licence - thats my personally Decision - and not the Decision from a company like KASPERSKY.
For example Agnitum Outpost firewall; if you buy this, you have 1 year FREE Updates and Support.
-Now the crucial difference-
After this period you can use the software further - without "if and however".
That's ok.

Compared to the other Internet Security programs on the market, I give Kaspersky the props, as I do for Antivirus. However, I choose to stick with Sygate for my firewall and Kaspersky for my AV.

Windows has taught me that not one product can do it all....RIGHT that is. However, for the average JOE that wants to have 1 product for all his security needs, I would recommend this.

Quit crying over the yearly subscription. MS doesn't charge monthly, cause they are simple updated you with patches for their holes. Try calling MS for support or buying a upgrade version, $$$. Kaspersky's AV product changes over the year so you can pay for those changes.

What me disturbs is the firm philosophy. All KASPERSKY products work only 1 year. All the same whether simple anti-hacker Tool or security tool. After one year one MUST acquire a new license for money, or the software work only with reduce functions.
It concerns an artificial expiration date.

Why they not allow to use (i talk not over Anti-Virus software, I mean for example Anti Hacker etc.)
software for „lifelong“ without new paying for it?
If I pay for software, I acquire a right to ALL and FULL function - without restriktions.

Or would you also buy a WINDOWS XP, which reduce a lot of functions after 2 years?
I hope, that not MICROSOFT read this ;-))

And do people really need an anti-spam utliity? I don't, but then again I'm not stupid enough to give my email address to everyone. I get about one spam email per week, and my email client always catches it, with my simple, non-bayesian filters.
