Publisher's Description
Lode Runner takes you back to the golden era of innovative game concepts. Originally developed by Broderbund, the game was one of the first to fuse arcade with puzzle elements. It has been on the market for over two decades already, which is amazing even for real life things, let alone the fast changing computer industry.
The game idea is simple: With your nimble and valiant hero you collect treasures, dig traps for enemies (a.k.a Bungelings) that are trying to hunt you down and move up the screen to get to the next level. Levels become progressively more difficult and enemies turn more aggressive to keep you excited.

The game is better than it was - the speed feels wrong (too quick) - and the unregistered restrictions are too harsh - only 5 levels (about 10 minutes play) and the game ends.
Cannot customize the controls - I prefer I,J,K,L to move with U & O to dig Left & right.
Full screen mode resets after 1 second (Laptop with 32MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000) back to windowed mode.
For a much more extensive version (and freeware) now with over 5000 levels/maps (should take several weeks to complete) http://www.omninet.net.au/~irhumph/apple2.htm

A nice attempt but the controls are incomplete - with a single 'dig' button instead of 'dig left' and 'dig right' as was in the original game. As such the game controls just feel awkward.
A free alternative - To play the game with all of the original 150 levels, 50 championship levels and a further 150 new levels - http://www.omninet.net.au/~irhumph/action.htm
This 'other version' is an almost perfect copy of the 1983 Broderbund version for the Apple ][
