I prefer this to the standard Media Player Classic (I prefer MPC to all other media players) because I can turn off subtitles from the main bar, amongst other tweaks. The 64-bit version finally seems stable and is what I use now. I like Shark007's packages because he keeps them up-to-date AND has an installer for it that includes MadVR if your computer has a bit more power to run that:

I used to use K-Lite and quit that, then Kawaii Codec Pack with MPC-BE because they had an installer with MadVR, but they haven't updated in a long time.

FYI: With version 1.5.0, MPC-BE will no longer support Windows XP -- this according to the latest beta changelog.

I never wanted to use it because of it's BLACK interface.

I've always liked MPC but I agree that this is not as smooth as it could be. I'll stick with VLC.

this 32 bit version plays smoother... most codec's are optimized for 32 bit

It would be nice if Betanews Fileforum added the download link for Media Player Classic - BE' 64-bit build as well... odd to have to move from here to the download site just to download the 64-bit application.

The Classic Media Player is one of the oldest media player and in my opinion works better than new ones. Thank you for the update!

@Zoroaster
You are welcome. In fact I encountered the same problem, contacted one of the developers and he kindly informed me that MPC-BE required DirectX Redistributable June 2010 to run flawlessly (another player that requires DirectX Redistributable 9 is one of the tiniest ones- 1337player- only 210 KB).
By the way MPC-BE is playing YouTube videos quite well.
Zoroaster reviewed v1.4.2 on Apr 3, 2014
@smaragdus, thank you very much :)
I downloaded/installed as you mention the DirectX Redistributable June 2010 9.29.1974 (DirectX End-User Runtimes), and MPC-BE x64 runs, I mean it runs very nicely & fast.
I believed that DirectX 11 installed would handle everything before it... obviously this is not my domain. It wouldn't have been for your remark I'd still be ignorant about this procedure.
All is well that starts well! -- Thanks again.

Media Player Classic BE 1.4.2 is really a very nice product, and I weigh every one of these words.

MPC-BE requires DirectX Redistributable June 2010 9.29.1974 (DirectX End-User Runtimes) - http://www.microsoft.com...ad/details.aspx?id=8109
Zoroaster reviewed v1.4.1 on Mar 28, 2014
This new version continues to display "The installed DirectX End-User Runtime is outdated", when the system has latest DirectX 11. I wonder if the player is not searching for DirectX 10, instead of >9 ...
MPC BE 64-bit on Win7 64-bit
Other users encounter the same issue. Boring. A pity because the player would be just fine without this problem.

Apart from not seeing anything new visually (may be the reason its called black edition), it just keeps getting better and better. Just plays everything flawlessly. Thanks to the developers.

Great MPC fork. I don't now how they did it but now I can finally watch 1080p videos on my wife crappy netbook. Btw , 70 background images for MPC-BE are here: http://dev.mpc-next.ru/index.php/topic,774.0.html

Terrific player! Truely light on resources and quick on startup. Used to use potplayer, no issues with it but MPC BE is lighter and quicker. Hence my switch over.
Kudos to the author!
RitoSwan reviewed v1.0.3.1 on Oct 22, 2012
BE stands for Black Edition, and yes it is by far, together with MPC-HC the most versatile lightwight player. Great stuff !

This is the best light weight and most universal Video Player.
Qlib reviewed v1.0.3.1 on Oct 21, 2012
Finally MPC-BE is on Betanews.. about time.. and yea.. great player.. got some improvements over MPC-HC as well (beyond not looking like it was made in 1995)... will be interesting to see these two battle it out..
Zoroaster reviewed v1.0.3.1 on Oct 19, 2012
The quiz is: what does BE mean? In fact it's related to the GUI which, compared to the traditional MPC is ... a great improvement. But there's more than a pretty face in this application. As a non-techie what I can objectively say nevertheless is that it handles more extensions that its model (webm for instance, even if MPC runs it, not included as a default), and it is definitely snappier. From what I've read there are several improvements as a whole, even bug fixes, but that's above my skills to confirm/explain.
