Looks like Image Composite Editor (ICE) they put out a year or so ago. Same features, send to their site to view in 3D. Hopefully a bit more stable. I'm rating it low because of the sending to their site part.

Whats going on with the version number? I think there are at least 10 digits missing! [2]

Just download it,...
Try with a scene and found it nice.... pity that it has to send the result to their site and not directly on the computer....

This is just to offset the offsetting of a deserved bad rating.

"Photosynth creates the synth on your computer and then puts it on the web...without an ID where will it put the contents..."

"Rate the software..."

But since the software requires creating an MSN Live account before it can be used, and I don't want an MSN account, the software cannot be used.

Thus the low rating.

Very well done software.

I agree with the poster who compains about being required to create a Microsoft "Live" account to use the software. Microsoft is using Photosynth as a way to rope users into participating in their social networking projects, and that's wrong.

Software should simply work.

Haha, I agree. This program is really innovative and if someone manage to give this program a rating of 1 because of Hotmail Login, they really should stop reviewing software in the future!

People really find the stupidest things to complain about, especially when they clearly don't understand the basic functions of the program's purpose.

Happy Holidays to all.

It deserves a BIG FAT ZERO because you are required to have a Live ID or Hotmail account to use it.

Pay no attention to alopecoid's 'review'. This program does exactly what it is intended to do and,IMO, does it pretty darned well. I am running on Vista 32bit and have had lots of success in running this program. Has an issue in 'Synthing' obscure landscapes, but I actually expected that. Another great program from Microsoft.

I tried yesterday a few times to upload the photos, but kept getting a message to "Wait". Something about too many people using it at once.

This is the future. When photosynth + google earth + flicker kinda services start to work together (I know the companies in question will not work together) we will have a whole new 3D web experience. Maybe even 4D because time is one more dimension in which this will enable.

The other products from the Photosynth team are also awesome, the progressive image stuff is amazing.

Can't wait for public release with tools.

PS. If it does not work with your system, why don't you write about it to the team that is working on it? It does not help development to complain here, I hope you know that.

Installed it. Doesn't do anything. Add-on isn't listed in the add-ons list in Firefox. There is no way to easily uninstall it. Puts crap all over your system (Windows directory, registry, temp files, etc). Way to go Microsoft.

I must have installed 50 different Firefox add-ons and never had a problem cleaning one out until this one. And I knew it would happen! Why? Because Microsoft just never gets anything right. It's really unbelievable.

This is not a Windows (All) application.

It runs only on XP SP2 and Vista.

keir

keir reviewed vTechnical Preview on Jan 24, 2007

Doesn't work on with 82865G graphics.

Also, like the Firefox WGA plugin doesn't seem visible in 'Add-ons' which I don't like.

I wish there was a way to post a comment here without rating, sometimes it's not really appropriate (for instance if it won't work for you personally but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a heap of crap, as in this case)

Wow...I like this alot...I thought it would be dumb..but it's pretty cool, but can a user make use of this with his own photos? and how hard will it be? but from a viewers point of view, if you did time square with this, that would be cool, it's like a panoramic picture except in a virtual reality simulator. it's like the drawling board for the matrix. at the end of the day though, i wish it had it's own program though..not a browser. and hopefully a user will be able to do this with his own rooms, or backyard, or school, and so forth, take the term "virtual tour" to a whole new level.
