Publisher's Description
Microsoft Portrait is a research prototype for mobile video communication. It supports .NET Messenger Service, Session Initiation Protocol and Internet Locator Service on PCs, Pocket PCs and Handheld PCs. It runs on local area networks, dialup networks and even wireless networks with bandwidths as low as 9.6 kilobits/second. It delivers portrait-like video if users are in low bandwidths and displays full-color video if users are in broadband. In low bandwidths, portrait video possesses clearer shape, smoother motion, shorter latency and much cheaper computational cost than do conventional video technologies. It provides presence notification, chat/voice/video functions almost anytime, anywhere, on any device.

err, isn't this what Netmeeting was supposed to be? seems like MS is starting fromn scratch here.

the program is 6.2Mb (just a bit bigger than what the advertised size is). otherwise it's not too bad.

I've tried it and found the program a quite unstable as it is an unfinished work. I recommend to give it a try. You'lll get surprised with what you will see, but be prepared for glitches. I was able to connect my PocketPC (using my cellphone at 9.6Kbps) and my PC thru an ILS server and still get video. Very creative!
