Contrary to this being posted as "new" today, this is still just the same release that came out back in November. Same version, same digital signature, etc. If you want the latest version of the Zune software you have to get the patch to 4.7.1407 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2498092

I don't have a portable Zune player , but I love this software it has a excellent, album art cover finder - editor- ripper,, best in it's class as far as I'm concerned, non bloat , just very well done period, It's like the developers gave it some thought!, It has become my default player period.

download it 5 star all the way...........

Awesome software, really love the interface. Only two major downsides and what's keeping me from using the software is poor support for audio and video formats and when moving the player from one monitor to another the playing video will restart.

Excellent program from MS.

Great for Music, ripping, podcasts and a fantastic Marketplace for Podcasts...This UI is now the defacto standard for all MS apps coming out next..

Goodbye to spreadsheet UI and memory hog ITunes crap...

Tried this again. Nice interface and very usable but the memory resources are on par with iTunes > 120 megs to plays songs minimized. Nope, going back to aimp2 or xmplay.

I'll have my HD as soon as UPS delivers it. But, to be prepared, I downloaded this software.

It's not necessarily bloated. The setup package is a ZIP file that breaks down into many smaller programs. There are separate 32 and 64 bit setup packages in English, French, and Spanish. There's also a setup for .NET and numerous Windows updates, necessary to run the software. There's also a firmware upgrade for the device.

I must add that I have been scouring the Internet for days to find a comprehensive, and not superficial review. I have yet to find one that told me other than the bare essentials that you can read in an ad on Best Buy or Amazon. How does the web browser work? What can you do with it? How easy it is to connect to your home wireless network? Can you synch or stream music from your home PC? What is the quality of reception of the HD radio?

In response to all these reviewers, I don't really care about subscribing to some software store, as I already own 124 gig of music. I'm not looking for games or apps. I am buying the player to play the music I already own. I don't really care about the UI, as I tend to pick out some music, put the player in my pocket, and listen to the music. I don't care about constantly diddling with a UI or impressing other people with it.

I had Zune 2.5 and when I clicked on "check for updates", it said there was an update and I clicked yes, update. That's it. It was the cleanest upgrade I have seen.

Device update went without a hitch. Awesome features.

Daddy_Spank

Maybe you should just give up on XP 64bit and get either XP 32bit or Vista 32/64bit?

NO 64-BIT XP SUPPORT.

i paid the extra money an 80GB zune. i paid hundreds of dollars for 64-bit xp. i shouldnt be made to feel like some dirty criminal...digging through forums, searching for hacked drivers (which dont exist) to find something that works.

im not running linux or mac, im running windows xp. it is downright pitiful that microsoft doesnt support zune on 64-bit xp, especially when it was released 3 years after 32-bit xp.

i bought the zune because it has a widescreen display, and actually plays decent looking movies. potential zune buyers may want to wait for another widescreen media player, or just get a creative zen.

@Daddy_Spank: i have 4GB RAM, which is only supported by 64-bit versions of windows. now even if vista x64 had drivers for all my hardware (which it doesnt), didnt crash because of the poorly written drivers that actually are available for my remaining hardware (which it does), or supported the nearly dozen software applications i either prefer or flat-out NEED to use for my job, youre telling me the best solution is to spend several hundred dollars on the worst operating system microsoft has ever released?

there is no mysterious compatibility issue here; its a simple driver. microsoft needs to stop dragging their asses and release a working driver for 64-bit xp/2003. period.

Banquo reviewed v2.3 on Jan 23, 2008

He said XP 64-bit support, not Vista. There is a difference. This program will not work on XP 64. Microsoft basically dumped that OS the day it was released though, it has never been supported well at all.

Other than that unfortunate issue it works fine on supported systems. I like it much better than iTunes.

Zune does support 64 bit.

From their website:
Recommended:

If you have a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, download the 64-bit version of the Zune software. To check whether you have a 64-bit operating system, follow the instructions here.

Gate, what a retarded remark! Zune software isn't meant to work with ipods. Go buy yourself a Zune before bashing this!
Ipods have Itunes
Zunes have...well...Zune

Makes iTunes look silly.

I only wish it kept visualizations as a feature for Now Playing. The current feature with your album art, song info, and fading on focus playlist is pretty cool though.

Never buying an iPod again.

What a coicidence, this released on the same day I get my 30 gig Zune (which was a $100 steal)!

Works fairly well, but quite bloated for my tastes(not that iTunes is any better). This is updated for the newer Zunes I'm assuming, which look fantastic.

Kriff reviewed v2.0 on Nov 13, 2007

It's really nice to look at. Plenty of eye candy, but there's not a lot of functionality. It does what it's supposed to, but you can't really edit metadata so much. That's probably my biggest gripe with this program. Other than that, it's been running quick stable and I've had no problems with it.

Review:

- Install- Takes some time to install while "cheking updates" and "my computer", but no problems here...

- Interface - cool interface, clean, simple, and you can even change background in settings...on first run it asks you if you ant to start with default settings or configure. Then it starts importing all your media...

- Features - Nothing new here, you can rip (mp3 also), burn, sync, organize your media, music, videos or photos, make playlists(itunes is better on this field)

- Marketplace, is very cool, you can search and buy in a click.Samples have very good quality, and the price? 0.79$

If you have an old machine stay away from this, it´s kind of heavy...

From http://zuneinsider.com/a...date-1-3-wednesday.aspx

* We’re fixing the skipping problem that some users were experiencing – that is, content acquired from Zune Marketplace will no longer skip when played on the device.
* Improved device and software reliability, when it comes to device detection, and improved sync'ing.
* We’ve made some changes to the FM Tuner so it no longer drains the battery when in sleep mode.

Hi, good update - as it installed with no problems. I never had a few issue with my Zune so I don't know if this update truly fixes anything. I just got my Zune 2 weeks week. The Zune Hardware is much better then an iPod (doesn't scratch as easy, wireless, FM, unlimited music for 15/month, Easer to navigate). But the Zune software...I can only hope they get it up to iTunes capabilities. Also just found out July 2007 - the Zune games are coming. I'm giving this a 4 though, becuase with all updates that fix issues - give me some new toy to play with (a game, wireless sending of video, divx support...something, as well as the bug fixes)
