This is a decent program, but I prefer another program called Movie Collector. Its by Collectorz (www.collectorz.com). They have a whole suite of products for Movies, Music, Books, Comis, and Games. Its not free, but its has more usability features, and its a bit more intuitive.

I like the program. But I wish that there was a better wxport feature, so you can export the database to text delimited (.csv format. Curently, you can only export to HTML. This is a problem if you ever decide to go with a different program, how do you import this programs database??? In other words, you stuck with using this program, since you can't export the data to a standard format.

Oh well, it's free!

I have been using this movie database program for about a year now. It does have some minor flaws/bugs, but it's easy to use & it's free. The author does update the program periodically, and there is a forum at his site for additional help & FAQ's.

I have been using this app for over six months and love it . There are a lot around , but too complicated for and involved . This has all I that I require and no steep learning curve . And the price is right . I have about 970 movies on video and dvd's . Well done and thanks

I only downloaded this app tonight, but from what I can see, it is one nice app. Especially if you factor in the fact that it is free. I have added all my DVD's and it seems to be perfect. Thanks to the author.

I thought personal attacks would not be tolerated here. This developer cannot handle criticism constuctively. I'm going with another app that looks like it will be available and periodically updated. This app itself is not so bad though.

If you are serious about your requests please contact me directly and provide me with more information and I would be more than happy to make this program a better experience for you and for anyone else that uses it. I don't think that we are getting anywhere with these chats through the reviews :)

Ok Mr. Know it all. Actually I HAVE tried the software out, and am STILL using it since last beta. Numbering is not the same as sorting, and I am talking about sorting. If I want to sort by number, the actual ID of the movie I put in it doesn't work. Here's an actual example. I have the Bourne Supremacy entered. It's the first movie I entered, and therefore its ID is 1. I right clicked on it, and changed its NUMBER to 29. Saved, and closed. Reopened the app, and the ID is still 1, the number is 29. I want to be able to change the ID of the movie. I don't want it to be 1 anymore. But there's no way to change the ID. I haven't found one anyway.

Your concern for the app brings this review to a 3 since not too many other authors pay attention to these things. If you're the author, you should not be able to give it a 5.. you're artificially raising the bar.

Your app is a simple interface, has good information, a nice look, and some nice features. but I want TOTAL control over my database... that includes numbering, sorting, et al.

Lord: This just goes to show that you have some particular grudge w/ this app and rate it without even trying it out. Not only do you have the option to renumber manually, but you can use digits and character codes to accomodate your own devised organizing system: eg. A-1, A25-D1. Also, I just now (after your constant bickering) realize what you consider "sorting". That my friend is called "numbering" --- not sorting which can be easily included as a completely useless feature. That numbering however is available for every kind of HTML/HTML export-the only place it is of any use. Like I said before, all you had to do was drop me a line so I could understand what you wanted included and it would have been in, or more appropriatelly stated, pointed out to you, months ago...

jafo818: Great review...really reflects your time spent w/ the program to formulate and reiterate your opinions.

Poly: Let's say I input 5 movies. They begin with A, B, C, D, and E. They are also numbered 1,2,3,4,5. Now, let's say I get a new movie that also begins with B. But when I input it, it numbers itself as 5. I would really like for it to appear alphabetically, but I also want the control of my database to renumber it as 3, and shift the others down to 4,5, and 6. That's sorting. And that's the way it should be. THis one doesn't. You don't even have the option of renumbering manually, should you want to. When I run a database, I want to control it, not be at its mercy. This program is a great idea, and a decent interface... but this sorting issue is not a problem that can be overlooked.

The app looks fine, though for this version (3.3.2) I have two complains:
- View-Sort List-Sort by number, will actually sort the values as characters, eg. 10 should not be displayed before 2!
- Search function, Search Directors, it is not working properly, either does not returns correct results with less entries in the database (about 20) and when I had more than 100, it's crashing with "instruction at '0x0048c820' referenced memory at '0x00000000". The memory could not be read." - on Win2k and same error on XP Pro with SP2
Needs more work!

Still works great for me and I've been using this for quite some time now.. -Lord-.. Either I don't understand what you're looking for or you'd appear to have some conflicting software on your box.. Sorting works just fine for me.. I've got 89 movies in my DB and it shows them alphabetically.. I surely did not enter them all in one by one alphabetically..

-Lord-

-Lord- reviewed v3.3b Build 1 on Jul 7, 2004

And once again, the program fails to sort or re-order the entries. If I were to completely input all my DVD's into the database in an alphabetical order on my own... and then later on purchase more disks, how then will I be able to input them in the proper order? Answer: I can't. WHat has the developer done about this? Answer: Come in to say that if I want anything changed about the software, go join a forum somewhere and paste the problem there (which I did). Did this solve the issues? Answer: No. Are there really THAT MANY submissions for changes? Answer: oh please.

If this guy ever gets a clue and fixes what has to be the most important feature in this or any other database on the planet, and that is re-ordering or sorting, then this software will be worth using. Until then, it's nothing more than an exercise in data entry. Which would be useful for those wanting a job in data entry. But even a job like that uses databases that sort.

-Lord-. Good point. I am a developer myself. I can tell you, when you start with a *good* outline of what your program will do, you start with a *good* design. I fail to see how anyone can overlook a sort in a database. That's like a car design overlooking a gastank. This *again* falls under the duh category. Maybe the developer is too ashamed to admit, they don't know how to do it... In any case . . . . From small minds, come small (albeit good looking) ideas. And as -Lord- pointed out, with so many requests (yeah, right) you would think a sort would be top priority. Guess not. I DVD, therefore I profile. DVD Profile(r).

Well this really isn't the forum for a text based arguement... but since you chose to address it here, I will respond here. Mentionin the other users who only login to promote other software really has no basis on the legitimate installation and testing that I have done with your software. I'd give it a 5 and tell all my friends about it, and would even buy the software if I liked it to that end. As I see it, it's a nice little program, lacking only that little problem of reording the movies once they're input. You obviously are aware of the things that are said here, and since the software is submitted as beta HERE, then that inherently means that those individuals that beta test HERE, should reasonably be able to post their findings HERE, and not have to go somewhere else to post information that is expected to be seen HERE.

It's nice software, and free is always a caveat that cannot be ignored.... but can you REALLY have THAT many requests for changes to it in your forum? An why submit to a beta test HERE, if you only want the information THERE.

Actually developers are just developer. One man team. First off, I cater to every user's need and I have forums for suggestions, I reply to every message promptly, and my users thank me for it. What you fail to realize is that I have so many feature requests and I am working on every one of them, but I can't do everything at once, and also concurrently finish up my MD licensure. Furthermore, if you want something done, post it in the forums and please don't expect to come before everyone else. So give the program 1 star or 5 stars...it doesn't really matter. There have been people that come to give it 3 stars based on screenshots alone (and admiting that they haven't installed it!) just so they can start writing about DVD Profiler...again that's not a review, that's just advertising. I do appreciate all the REAL reviews, good and bad criticism from everyone who was written one...So -Lord- if you have a feature request in mind just post it in the forums and we'll see what the 'developers' can do about it.

-Lord-

-Lord- reviewed v3.2b Build 4 on Jan 26, 2004

Developer's don't really seem to care about the people who are reviewing and specifically identifying certain needs of the program... as in RE-ORDERING the movie list!!!!
If they won't support it in beta, you think they will in final? 1 star for extremely POOR showing on updating the obvious.

Not anywhere near as good as DVD Profiler...

-Lord-

-Lord- reviewed v3.2b Build 3.5 on Jan 9, 2004

Still won't let you re-order the movies once you've entered them. Right after installation, you are required to create a profile to use (not a bad feature I guess if more than one person uses your PC), and then immediately closes forcing you to re-start the program. Still a nice one, still a nice look, functional. I just wish they'd fix the re-order thing.

-Lord-

-Lord- reviewed v3.2b Build 3 on Dec 24, 2003

Let me take this one down a notch. One short-coming that this program has, is it's inability to re-sort or re-number the movies as you enter them... the updats are appreciated, but the information is too succinct. Be more descriptive. Still a nice interface and is a pretty valuable tool. I'll leave my review at the previous level of 4.

-Lord-

-Lord- reviewed v3.2b on Nov 10, 2003

Solid 4. I like the simplicity of the interface. Doesn't look like the typical database, and it's interactive feature of checking with the imdb simply rules. There is an adult setting to it and it's password protected... that's a nice feature too if you have those kinds of movies... but what's the initial password to get into it?

Ekstreme reviewed v3.15b Build 3 on Sep 17, 2003

Exactly what I was looking for. I have one made in Access but you need access to use it and it ahs only 1/2 the features this does

3 things that I have noticed in the 15 mins that I've been using it.

1. If it crashes you lose everything that you've entered since last save. It's a database, you shouldn't need to save it, it should be automatic.

2. If I mispelt a category I couldn't work out how to edit it. I just reinstalled the app and re-entered the category.

3. Every time I try to download Youn Guns II from the online database (terrific feature BTW) it crashes.

This is a great app, keep up the god work

Install went fine, however when I executed the program, it immed rebooted my ststem and XP Pro generated an error report to MS;reply from MS was that the program device driver crashed my system and recommened removing the program, which I did. Now all appears normal. Maybe needs more work??
