Publisher's Description
Multi Theft Auto is a multiplayer mod for Grand Theft Auto 3 (GTA3) and Vice City. When Grand Theft Auto 3 was in development it's makers wanted to have a multiplayer function included in the game. Sadly and due to unknown reasons the multiplayer function was not implemented in the retail version of Grand Theft Auto 3. Although the feature was not in the product, the lines of code for the multiplayer were not removed. This opened possibilities for us to enable a multiplayer feature.

What you say about 0.3b is correct. However, version 0.4.1 is now out and I didn't want people to be turned away by a (quite rightly) damning review of an earlier version.
Performance is better, teleporting doesn't happen, player sync is better (with animations), vehicle damage has been incorporated (including working Pay 'n' Sprays). Pedestrian support cannot be added because the game would lag too much. Also, they're now using C++ instead of VB. It's still a beta though, so it does crash now and then, but much less than before.
There is also a Turismo mode that kicks in at 2:00 pm every day (game time), plus Ammunations to buy weapons at. MTA 0.4.1 also supports Vice City deathmatch (a class-based system) and Vice City Stunt Mode.
Check it out at http://www.multitheftauto.com
You will also need the All Seeing Eye server browser at http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html and the GTA3 v1.1 patch.

Mind-blowingly evil. v0.2 was a typically horrible written program that.. er.. didn't work. Now this actually works.. sort of. Except - what's the point? It runs stunningly bad on a 200Mb switched network with players teleporting all over the place, players aren't syncronised, there's no vehicle damage, no peds, and the list goes on. To the authors of both MTA and GGM (the "competition"): Congrats on exposing the multiplayer side of GTA, but please, you're fighting a losing battle. Give it up and wait for proper multiplayer implementation in GTA4. I doubt multiplayer could get any better in GTA3/VC, or worse for that matter. And if you're going to use VB, please stop being typical VB programmers and churning out the most god-awful anti-style guide GUIs ever created. It might also help if you actually add some error-trapping to your code. Y'know, On Error Goto blah_Error - yeah? Infact, even though I think this whole multiplayer GTA thing is a lost cause (and believe me, a friend and I have been waiting for a multiplayer version of GTA3 since news of it being in 3D came about) - *I'LL* do your GUIs for you; get on over to http://www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk to contact me :)
