What the hell is it with me and CRAPPY companies that are supposed to provide service, BUT DON'T?
We all know that the spat between Microsoft and Apple causes our programs to "not play together nicely in the sandbox", and some companies have developed ways to get around this. One company of a******s, Red Chair Software, came out with the Anapod Explorer to rip-off the public under the guise of helping to ease the MS/APPLE issues.
When all I had was my one 3rd generation iPod, the software worked, and all was right with the world. Then we got iPod #2, and the start of my problems began...
Turns out, that my "3rd generation" software cost $25, but a "Universal Edition" was $30. When all I had was the one iPod, there was no question. Turns out, though that the one for 5 bucks more will work with "all of a family's iPods".
Why do they do this? One word: Confusion. See, IF you buy the "3rd generation" version and get another iPod later on, you are forced to buy ANOTHER $25 version. If you had purchased the $30 "Universal Version" in the first place, it would automatically cover the new iPod.
Why wouldn't they just sell the more expensive version, and be done with it? Again, CONFUSION. If you are confused about their product, they can sell another $25 version, then they've almost DOUBLED their bottom line. But the public wouldn't STAND for a company who marketed software that only worked with one iPod at a time. So they've got DENIABILITY.
Red Chair Software can say: "We've got one version that covers ALL your iPods." And LOOK like the good guys. But they're not. Part of the cost of software is SUPPOSED to cover "normal" support. RED CHAIR SOFTWARE DOES NOT GIVE SUPPORT TO THEIR USERS.
Each version of this software is SUPPOSED to work on WHATEVER computer you put it on. So, I've got it on my home and work PC's. Only thing is, THIS s*** ANAPOD SOFTWARE FROM RED CHAIR SOFTWARE RECOGNIZES MY IPOD AS ANOTHER NEW g**d*** IPOD AT WORK, THAN IT DOES AT HOME!!!
This means I have to BUY ANOTHER LICENSE from these a-holes at Red Chair Software - so this crappy software will work on my office PC!!!
Well, "F" that, Red Chair Software. You burned me for $50, and that's all you'll get from me.
I've emailed them NUMEROUS times, and they will NOT answer my emails.
(Now before you say: "Gee BG, you're all "F" this and a-hole that, no wonder they don't write you back." Please know that I sent them 4 emails and a web form that were extremely polite. - AFTER WEEKS of not getting back to me, THAT'S when I put the BOXING GLOVES ON.)
To my readers: If you'd like to drop them a line, and ask them HOW they think they can continue to operate like this and NOT create a HORRIBLE REPUTATION as "RED CHAIR SOFTWARE - the WORST SOFTWARE ON THE PLANET", you can reach them at: cardinal@redchairsoftware.com, service@redchairsoftware.com, rouge@redchairsoftware.com, press@redchairsoftware.com, or ip@redchairsoftware.com (Or EVEN all FIVE!!!)
Maybe if they get innundated with the public's emails, they will reconsider their fraudulent ways. (Or at LEAST answer a few of their emails!)

I agree with all of the negative comments below. Maybe the software works great if it runs but I have been completely unsuccessful at getting it to run on my computer. Multiple, and I mean multiple, e-mails to tech support, customer support, etc., go unanswered. Completely unanswered, as if disappearing into a black hole. If you Google ""Red Chair" Support Problems" you will easily come across 50 other situations like this. Some situations even worse, as in the software wiping out all your files, then no technical support.
No phone number, no physical address, not even a direct e-mail address to be found. Only on-screen forms to fill out for help. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the positive reviews here are probably from RedChair software. Malgib is absolutely right. Some of these other posters don't seem to know what they are talking about. Windows messenger updates? Creative is constantly updating it's software, if you visit their website you can automatically upgrade.
Notmad is very deceptively marketed. Many features do not work as advertised. After you have paid you are told that the features are 'known issues'. The manufacturer does not respond to dissatisfied customers, and they deceptively compare Notmad to Creative Play Center, when they should compare it to Creative Media Source, against which Notmad falls short.
I bought it, I was burned. No updates and no support.
Just check when the last update was. Dec. 2005?
For an extremely bug-ridden product.

I have had a completely different experience with this product and with Red Chair than the reviewer below. I have had very few problems using Notmad Explorer for more than 3 years now, and any issues I've reported have been quickly resolved and/or integrated into the next patch.
I still firmly believe it is hands-down superior to Creative's MediaCenter -- despite the fact taht MediaCenter HAS improved noticably of late.
Sadly, you can never please everyone, but I highly recommend this and all of Red Chair's software to anyone who owns a compatible product.

NotMad 8.7.9 - Please dont waste your money on buying this bug-ridden, unsupported piece of software. I purchased my copy of Notmad for my Zen player about 3 months ago and had nothing but problems with it. The Automatic Transfer Manager - what a great idea - pity it doesnt work! File synchro wont synchro with its own back-ups - whats the use of that! These are only 2 of a series of problems I have found with Notmad - reported them all in detail, and not one reply from RedChair.
Have a good look at Creative's latest MediaSource Organiser (v3.30.21) ... not only has it caught up to Notmad, but it is easier to use and works faultlessly ... and better still ... its free!
Dont let the people at RedChair trick you into believing that their software is better that Creative's, because its simply isnt. Dont make the mistake I made of buying this software just to find out it was inferior.

A totally indispensible tool. There are few programs more painful than Creative Medis Source. Sure, there are "free" alternatives out there -- a plug in for Windows Media Player or RealPlayer, but I have never had a consistently accurate experience with either of these options.
The Tag-on-The-Fly (or whatever it is called) feature is worth paying for in and of itself. My music is sorted very differently on my Jukebox 3 (and hopefully the Zen Xtra that will be "under the tree" this year) than it is on my PC, and this is the ultime tool for managing that.
Worth every penny (although I wish there was a stripped down "lite" version available -- the web interface stuff is pretty superfluous for me).

Software that SHOULD have been included with your Creative nomad... Their creative center brings me pain, and not in a good way.

this is actually pretty good, but with creative's new filemanager ver. 2 the improvement over standard creative tools is not that big anymore and it's shareware.
