Excellent PDF viewer. Fast and not at all bloated. The tabbing can be a bit annoying, but I hardly bring up more than two PDFs anyway.

I was using this for a long time but recently switched to their free PDF-Xchange EDITOR, which is also free but has more editing functionality. I thought I'd notice some limited functionality in the free version or something and switch back to Viewer, but so far it's been better, as I did want more editing functions.

Excellent software, what I'm using for years. It has everything, what you can find in Foxit or Adobe Reader, but it's more stable and faster. Now, I see, there is one more like Viewer - PDF-XChange Editor - with the huge futures kit and different UI. It works the same good as Viewer.

I like this software. I really really do.
1. The problem I have with it is that the dev's don't listen at all. Over the past year I've submitted to their site and on here discussing the obviously missing ability to open multiple PDF's at once, especially since it's tabbed! Instead, if you have to open multiple files, you must go through the motions of opening them one at a time.
2. When going to print a pdf or portions thereof, you can select for example pages 2 - 9. Done and it works. Now when in ANOTHER pdf, and going to print, it actually saves previous instructions (2-9) rather than resetting and defaulting back to "All"
For anyone that deals with financial records and things of the like, you know what I am talking about, and this makes it hard to WANT to use this program.
-1 for just plain old ignoring

-1 for the issues that it has and leaving them out in the first place

In my opinion, this is the best! The Firefox plugin works flawlessly, unlike Adobe's. I haven't had any of the memory problems mentioned in other posts. Very Stable. The Paid version is even better.

Pros: I have used Viewer many years, and now changed it for Editor.. Time to time I try Adobe, Foxit, some others, just to know what's knew. I want to say - PDF-XChange (all) are the best softwares for PDFs. And price is still ok

This is the one, plain and simple. Looked at ALL the other alternatives to Adobe and this is by far the winner. Bye bye Adobe, you pissed me off for the last time, most recently for CONSTANTLY wanting to reinstall the pdf viewer browser plugin(nppdf.dll), a security risk in and of itself. Even if I disable it in browser options(Firefox), it reappears later out-of-the-blue as enabled after updating... Updating that now seems to happen monthly for Adobe due to its train wreck of security holes. Forcing a plugin, how dumb is that? WAKE UP Adobe. Sheesh!

I keep trying, they keep not listening. you STILL cannot open multiple files at once via the open dialog in the program even though the program is tabbed.
It's ridiculous that they could leave it out even after multiple reviews and reports.
Now a memory leak? unacceptable.

If you want to use Free versions there are Free PDF-XChange Viewer (http://www.tracker-softw...duct/pdf-xchange-viewer) for read/edit pdfs and PDF-XChange Lite for create pdf from any Windows apps (http://www.tracker-softw...roduct/pdf-xchange-lite). Also you can try all non-free features with no restrictions but you will get watermarks. PDF-XChange PRO includes bundle softs and it's cheaper then you'll decide to buy each of them separately (http://www.tracker-softw...product/pdf-xchange-pro).

In any case, going to have to -1 for the bugs, and -1 for the lack of attention in getting them fixed. Solid app, but can only give an average rating due to these failures.

I've been using this app for years but have discovered a couple of glitches that should be repaired. There is no link on their homepage for bug submission, so here they are
1. when click on file open, and going to select the pdf you want, you are only allowed to choose ONE file at a time. For an app that does tabs, it should allow the selection of how ever many (control click) pdf's you want to open and run.
2. When going to print a pdf or portions thereof, you can select for example pages 2 - 9. Done and it works. Now when in ANOTHER pdf, and going to print, it actually saves previous instructions (2-9) rather than resetting and defaulting back to "All"
These are just two. Haven't found any others but I will post if/when I do. Other than that, the application is pretty decent. I'd give it a 5 or even a 10 if those items were fixed.

I had read all these reviews and would like to agree with the most of them. I downloaded PDF-XChange and tried. It's excellent Viewer! It's the better then Foxit, Nitro, Sumatra.. It has more free features then others. In latest version I can add/edit Bookmark and XFA-forms and I'm glad to use these necessaries features for free.

For those that complain about Ask toolbar, it does not install Ask Toolbar, or any other for that matter, simply lists a number of search engines. Just go to options and remove any search provider you do not want, and choose which one you prefer..

Ok if you are like me and hate all the PDF alternative readers.. this is the one I found that is the lightest, fastest and most bloat free. It does not do anything other than read, no annotations for example, but other than that its all anyone should need.

I found something Free for view pdf and read many reviews on this site. I downloaded PDF-XChange Viewer Free from its site (I think it's safely then from others). I used it a year and very satisfied with its work. I was amazed at what Hilbert wrote. I can see (and try) all features in Free (and then decide to buy PRO- or use Free). If you didn't like to see sign “PRO-” you could make Edit ->Preferences->Registration->Hide..PRO. I downloaded Foxit too. But PDF-XChange is much more interesting, intelligible with friendly User Interface. It's faster then Foxit. It's a bit bigger but PDF-XChange now uses less memory on a huge document than earlier versions. Users can change usage available memory in Preferences, Performance to between 10% and 75%. And its support is really excellent. Maybe your review is an advertising Foxit? I think it's bad idea.

I tried this a long time ago and thought it sucked. Can't remember why. Maybe it was a bad version. Just tried it again and it rocks. Quick, stable, and works. Not one of the ultra-light crapware PDF viewers that work only on tiny, meaningless PDF files, but not the angst-ridden malware soul-eating evil digital dump that is Adobe Reader, either.

Has many options, 2 things though..
-A little slow on startup.
-It remembers views for documents depending on their path, which sucks, it should be more like MD5 or something else that is unique per file.

Without doubt it's the fastest, most feature rich alternative to Acrobat available. And it has all you need really advanced features. And its free !
PDF-XChange is another Adobe-alternative in today's that have boasts snappy load times and basic functionality that outpaces the basic functionality of Adobe Reader. I used many years Adobe Reader. From the first day I see this program, Acrobat reader is dumped. Try it, and you can compare too.

If you use a 64-bit version of Windows, thumbnails of PDF files are simply unavailable in Windows Explorer -- at least not courtesy of either Microsoft or Adobe. That right, even if you install brand-new Adobe Reader X, you still can't see thumbnails. Thanks a lot, Adobe.
But if you install the 64-bit version of PDF-Xchange, you WILL get your thumbs. There are other hacks, but this is the easiest way. That alone sells me on this reader. And it's a good all-around reader as well, with tools Adobe doesn't offer.

I like this program very much. I had been using Foxit, but this program actually lets you edit PDF files for free (using the typewriter function) and save it. Its great for typing in your info when sending in rebates.
It also displays PDF files better in my opinion. Just recently I had a pdf file (user manual) that wasn't formatting correctly making it hard to read in the Foxit pdf viewer. The viewer doesn't have any problem with that same PDF file.
As for that ASK toolbar, you can easily just uncheck it during the install, then that is not installed, its no big deal. Its also FAR better than that Sumatra and Evince some other 1 star poster recommended. There are a lot of false statement by some reviews here, one even claims its nothing but "adware" which is a complete lie, I haven't seen an ad yet.

edit, mark-up, highlight, add text, take snapshot to clipboard (too much to list).
BEAUTIFUL interface w/toolbars which can be selected based on ur needs.
i need and USE them all, but, if i didn't need them all, its very easy to deselect one or more. i use this for many things but mainly for all my 'paperless' statements from banks, credit cards and utilities, etc. i mark 'em up w/pmt type and date etc. INDISPENSABLE! Thank You! Tracker Software.
btw, i hav this running on 7-8 machines and everytime i install it... if i *uncheck* 'install AskToolbar' ... oddly it DOESN'T install AskToolbar. np whatsoever. gets all 5 stars easily!

I was looking for a replacement for Foxit because of the way it installs the Ask Toolbar even when you configure the installer to NOT install it! I read all the 5 star reviews for this software and thought this product looks good. So I downloaded it and begun the install only to find that PDF-XChange Viewer also tries to install the Ask Toolbar. At that point I killed the install. I WILL NOT use software that includes adware!

For starters, this program is EXCELLENT. 5 stars all the way. It lets you do lots of things with PDF files, and it lets you do them for free. I see mention of Foxit several times, and while that program is ok, when making changes to a PDF file, and subsequently saving it, it watermarks the saved file unless you pay for the program. This one doesn't do that. You can save without watermarks etc. Something else is that if you use the typewriter feature, and type in new fields, those fields are recognized by other PDF programs as editable (one that I've used to check it out is acrobat).
The version of PDF-X I use is the portable one. Does everything I need and straight from the USB drive/key with no issues.
For anyone that wants to needs to make changes to PDF files, get this. You will not be sorry.
One thing that would be helpful with new releases is a change list. Please put out the info on what's changed in the newer version from the older ones. Some of us don't like updating all the time unless we find we have to etc.

PDF-XChange Viewer 2.051 is a glitzy irritating toy rather than a good PDF viewer. Essentially, it's just advertisement/adware to con you--or make you so frustrated--that you'll buy the so-called Pro version. I assume those who have given it a high rating score must ardor the techie-looking overly cluttered screen or are bedazzled by it, or they're casual users who've all day to read a PDF file.
Specific annoyances:
--------------------------
1. Adware features get significantly more in the way of its operation than do similar competing products (Foxit had similar issues but they intrude much less so). Many of PDF-XChange Viewer's menus items are redundant--their presence serves only as adware. For example, essentially every item in the 'Documents' menu is unavailable yet 'Documents' is not grayed/ghosted out. You know you're only using the 'free' program under sufferance of the manufacturer when continually reminded by big 'Pro' icons to buy it. In use, it's irritating and annoying.
1.1 My point about PDF-XChange Viewer being annoying adware is further strengthened by the fact that you can't even download it directly from the Beta News/File Forum site, rather you are linked--pushed--directly to the developer's site which promotes the 'Pro' version.
2. The ergonomics of this program are just bad. The opening screen is cluttered with unnecessary toolbars and items which are rarely used (or not used at all when used as a viewer). Finding your way about is awkward to say the least.
2.1 There's no integral help, it has to be downloaded separately. …So, later, you're off-line and you've no help, ok! This may be understandable for free or open source software but is isn't for commercial software. For starters, you've bought the product and only have received half of it. (One really has to shake one's head when one sees how dumb these some developers can be).
2.1 Like much software, PDF-XChange Viewer is another ho-hum program deigned by programmers who have zilch idea about ergonomics. They're too arrogant to ask users what they want, better still, they should be studying how users use their products (or try to use them).
3. ' PDF-XChange Viewer' is a misnomer. This program is a kludged/nobbled PDF editor masquerading as a viewer. It is full of editing features which can't be used or are nobbled until you pay for the full version. For example, highlighting features etc. cannot be flattened (made an integral part of the PDF) unless you buy the Pro version. If this were anything other than software, a vehicle perhaps, it would be considered to deceptive and misleading and the lemon laws would stick its claws into the manufacturer. Right, it's well time we had lemon laws for software.
4. Advancing pages with the spacebar. In default operation, tapping the spacebar to advance pages makes successive pages dribble down the screen. Unlike Foxit (which gets it right), no attempt has been made in PDF-XChange Viewer to paginate one page at a time nor to synchronize it with the screen. Tapping the spacebar just produces a vertical tickertape, one page dribbles onto the screen as the former exits.
5. Amazingly, the BACKSPACE KEY DOESN'T WORK when viewing a PDF. PDF-XChange Viewer. Developers, for heaven's sake, at least be smart enough to check out your competition first--check Foxit and see how it's supposed to be done. Why on earth would you want to alienate new users--converts from Foxit etc.--by messing with the keystrokes? After all, many other programs use the spacebar/backspace other than Foxit, the enormously popular image viewer, IrfanView for instance. (For some reason these 'dyslexic' programmers have forgotten to map forward and back arrow keys to the spacebar/backspace--in fact the strange mis-mapping of the down-arrow key to the space bar accounts for the sync problem mentioned earlier).
6. PDF-XChange Viewer very inconveniently LOCKS the PDF file it is viewing--that's to say the user cannot move the file whilst it's being viewed! This is highly inconvenient when say one is reviewing/sorting out large groups of PDFs and moving them to different locations, if PDF- XChange Viewer is left open the file locking will crash the move.
6.1 This is another instance of where (a) the software developers haven't done any/sufficient usability research, and (b) it shows that the developers themselves really don't use or test their products properly! [To be fair, I must point out that Foxit also has this problem, and a significant problem it is.]
6.2 Remember, PDF-XChange Viewer is supposed to be a viewer, and unlike an editor or word processor there is no need for viewers to lock the file that's being viewed, it can be read into memory and viewed from there (which too would make it faster). Even some good editors such as UltraEdit find no need to lock the files--their developers know users need to move files which are being viewed. For example, UltraEdit loads a viewed/edited file into memory and if the file is moved out from under it, it calmly asks the user if he wants to retain the image in memory or not! PDF-XChange Viewer's stupid programmers probably don't even know this is an issue with many users.
6.3 For ages, here we've overcome Foxit's annoying file locking issue using file unlocking methods, but whilst a nuisance it works reasonably well. The file is moved and Foxit doesn't complain but it can no longer read past the point it was up to in the PDF. MOVE THE PDF FROM UNDER PDF-XChange Viewer AND IT INSTANTLY CRASHES!

Unfortunately, slow speed on image pages is a serious and common problem with PDF viewers generally. From the issues raised in points 6-6.3, it seems clear that if PDF readers aren't looking ahead and pre-processing pages in memory to increase their speed, clearly developers aren't optimally using memory.
As a group, PDF readers are a pretty lousy lot. Why should we users have to continue to put up with second-rate reader software that's just an afterthought for their PDF editors? It's been a problem for years.
With Adobe's PDF Reader having lost the plot ages ago, Foxit cruising as if it had eaten poisoned bait, PDF-XChange Viewer's many faults and so on, I recon it's time for a decent open source reader specifically dedicated to reading PDFs.

Nice, great features. 1 serious feature FoxIt has and not PDFXChange Viewer is browser integration. It would be nice to click on a web-based PDF and be able to read it directly without saving it and hunting it down. 1 point off for not having browser integration!

Excellent PDF viewer. Fonts look much better compared to Foxit. Has tabbed interface. This is the most convenient PDF reader I have found so far. Also works in Linux via Wine.

I have been using this application now for well over a year. It is the best out there. And now with this new version it is even faster than before. Love this program. And I agree it should get a lot more notice than it does

Actually acrobat pro is 'the best'. But acrobat is almost it's own operating system with a price tag to boot.

Wow super, fixed a very annoying bug which still exists in Acrobat 9.30: the zoom level remains unchanged when clicking in the bookmark. I like very much the customizable toolbar. Lots of features and strangely enough, the installer is smaller than Acrobat.

edit: I see it has firefox plugin, but you have to completely uninstall foxit before this one will work in browser.

Completely agree with the reviews below. It is true x64, which puts it leaps and bounds above the others (Foxit, Adobe, etc.). You can write on top of documents and the sort. And it loads with no issues inside of FireFox - I always had issues with Foxit loading in FireFox. And it is fast. This is my new PDF viewer!

This program is truly good, it renders PDF faster than Adobe Reader and unlike Adobe, this is true x64.

It should get a lot more attention that it does cause it is way better than Foxit.

The rendering engine isn't as good as Adobe's but other than that this is very useful indeed, the raster export quality is especially impressive.

rip_pit is wrong, you can not edit pdf files with this, only view them (as the title indicates as does the little ad to upgrade on the top right). I prefer this to foxit for viewing though as I find it's faster but Foxit Phantom is the way to go for viewing and editing.

Excellent pdf reader, the only thing why I keep foxit as my default pdf viewer is that it has a smoother scrolling, with PDF-XChange when you scroll a document the fonts shakes to much and it produce a very annoying sensation to the sight.

Uninstalled this for foxit then uninstalled that too. Finally.... fixed the text tool. Was almost ready to reinstall adobe

Great PDF reader and very powerfull for editing PDFs.
Apart from the common reading features, it has a lot of tools for editing, commenting, drawing, inserting or deleting pages, shapes, etc.
A must have and i give it a 5 stars

I love this progam it is better than foxit but not by a huge amount. One thing that both this and Foxit still don't match up against Adobe's leviathan on is the quality of the display. For some reason Adobe's font redering is absolutely razor sharp whereas both Foxit and this are slightly fuzzy. I've tried various settings in the rendering options all to no avail. Nevertheless under normal use it's fine but for extended view of PDFs i sometimes find myself retreating back to Adobe.

Don't bother with the portable (it already is & upx'able). The portable.dat file prevents it from updating.. Has options to disable the splash, disabled pro features, plus the snapshot sounds. Other than the official adobe, this is the best you can get for free imo.

This would be the best free PDF software, non bloated, but I had to knock it down to 3 cause many times opening a PDF I get a blank screen. Forums blame me or want the version number after I keep saying the latest. This gives me so far all the PDF features I want except OCR. But nobody gives OCR away for free.
