Me again. I'd give it a 3.5 if it were possible. The thumbnail view has been fixed, but is very very slow, and hangs you up, until that gets finished. How about just doing 1 page ahead, and then the following pages on the fly, as needed? that would speed things up some. Also, there's still no full screen. Also, it would be nice to have a slideshow or somesuch. This program may have a bright future, but needs a lot of work yet.

For the time being Irfanview is in an own class - that said I have to admit that I use IV mainly as the lightweight program that "handles" or view most of the images files by default. With ACDSee gone sailing on the ACBloatSee (only the old classical is useful there), XnView and SlowView are both in daily use on this machine. Unfortunately they are not totally in the fingertips yet. Guess I'm not faithful enough to either of them. It's in this picture PawBrowse come in as a new thumbnail - and I kind of get the right "feel" for this one. Still has a good distance to go - but the initial setting just seem right, and that's why I don't want to start off by comparing Pawbrowse with the others. As said, I believe Pawbrowse have a great future if the developer are not getting bored of coding too early (-: For the development, there is some parts I do miss. The preview window give one picture by clicking on a thumbnail, but to go back to the thumbnail view you got to up to the button bar and click "browse images". This is time consuming if you work with it a lot, and this function should be found in the contexmenu as well. In fact I would like far more functions moved over to the contexmenu in the main window. Secondly (and this is more a wish than optimizing what is) - with some tons of images around for a few larger websites, I have to admit that it sometimes can be a hassle finding a image. No image viewer software has offered me a truly fast option of finding images by image name. Solution for me has been to use a small freeware tool called "Locate" that works as updatedb and locate in Unix systems (http://www.hytti.uku.fi/...english/softwares.shtml). It's extremely fast in searching whole drives as it makes a database of all files (so yes you got to rescan to keep your database updated, but you save lots and lots of time in searching). I have always missed this function (for image files only) in an image viewer, as the user then would end up not only with a matching file name but the ability to view the file and open it in an editor as well. Well that was my first Christmas wishes to Pawsoft, and since I like cats and believe I got to save the five star rating until later. Today it get a four star rating from me. Can't wait to give it a five (as I long for a default image viewer), but that's up to the developer I guess (-:

Many have said they don't like the explorer style interface or the thumbnail browser... these can both be turned off on the toolbar. I'll check out that bug with the thumbnail support - thanks for reporting it!

The Fullscreen mode does need a little work, I've put it on the list of requested features for the next release.

This program is hardly bad enough that I wouldn't take another look later in its development, but it suffers from an overdone interface (the explorer-like thumbnail view), and from great competition. XnView and SlowView are both better. And Irfan View is now the best in the category, being very lightweight, fast, and simple. In complete fairness to this one, I'll publicly admit that I didn't prefer even Irfan in its earliest stages of development though.

First of all, yes, IrfanView is probably the best freeware image/media tool on the net. Bear in mind however, it's been in constant development for over the past three years now.
Now, about this program. I recieved an error 50003 in Main.LoadThumbnails. However, this didn't crash the program. Apparently, just the thumbnail support. I clicked on full screen, and did not get a full screen view. I tried out some of the editing tools, and they seemed to work quite well. I'll give this a 3, as while it isn't as good as it could be, I'm sure future releases will be much better, if the author gets some feedback. ( hint hint ;-) )

Frankly, Slowview, Irfanview, and XNView are better viewers, and are freeware. Why do picture viewer developers think their program must have an Explorer interface and a thumbnail and tree view? All modern versions of Windows already have thumbnail view and cataloging ability. Why bloat the viewer by duplicating Windows features? All a viewer needs is full-screen viewing and the ability to quickly toggle through large folders of pictures!

1) This is coded by one person 2) yes there are other more advanced image viewers, but this one is still quite good if you don't need all the fancy smancy stuff 3) it is fast as sh** and the design/layout is very well done.

Once again the software listing has been updated but not the license status. Pawbrowse 1.0 Beta 1 is not shareware, it is freeware. I am sorry you don't like it klumy, we would welcome some suggestions for improvement but please don't say it isn't free when it is.

I stick with IrfanView and xnView. Both are freeware and better.

Actually it is neither. It is in fact shareware, there is a 14 day trial but the program never runs out.

It must be still listed as freeware because the older version was. I apologise for this error and will immediately contact BetaNews/FileForum about it.
