Looks promising. I gave up hope with Vista support since it appeared that this project had been abandoned. I'm very happy to see that it's still alive and well!

This build causes my 2.8Ghz Intel HT CPU to periodically spike which causes my pc to freeze up - especially when running bittorrent. I do hope to see further optimizations before this is finalized but nonetheless I am very satisfied so I will rate this a 5.

The link is dead but here is a proper link for the installer http://phrosty.phoenixla...rc1/pg2-rc1-test2-2.exe

This version is less buggy then the previous was so I'm giving this 5.

ok kids.. remember:

This is not the final version of RC1. This is an initial testing release only. Things are broken. Please do not release any new build to download or news sites!

@VikingBlade They can report as many IP's as they want to, it makes no difference if you don't upload to them. Plain and simple. So I'm not sure what the point of your comment is.

Yep, this is just an IP address blocker basically, and is not a replacement for a firewall. However, it does wjhat it's meant to do with minimum fuss, small CPU and memory footprints, and updates any number of lists automatically. You just install it and leave it - no finding up-to-date lists and importing them into P2P apps or firewalls.

I agree it's odd when Beta News hosts a version that is not available on the official site; but it's not the first product I've seen this happen for. It's no reason to be alarmist. If you're unsure just check with this site's admins or with the Peerguardian's. In this case everything is fine...

As the forum says, it's mainly bug fixes, including the one I had where there was a delay in PG2 shutting down when closing down Windows without closing the application first. :-)

It appears to be slightly buggy so I'll improve my rating but can't give it as good a rating as I'd like to.

I suppose with the advent of companies like BayTSP now reporting IPs of anyone in a bittorrent swarm without connecting to each user, I can't say PG is that effective anymore.

People seem to be comparing this to a firewall, when its clearly not even close to being one, nor does the developer describe it as such. Its an IP blocker, particularly useful when using P2P software. I have a router, but I'm hardly going to enter 10s of millions of IPs to block the connection

Great piece of software, but this version was released back in 2005

This garbage found its way on to my kid's machine because it was bundled with something he pulled down (likely a VB toolkit). As such, that makes it MALWARE. You want IPs blocked? Get a decent router and learn how to configure it. If you want the wimpy man's solution, get a software firewall (might I recommend the freeware Komodo) *and learn how to use it*. They're pretty much point and click these days - an idiot could use them.

Don't get this garbage.

ONE star for unwanted malware.

the program can be fine ,
but it's useless in any point of view you would consider it .
Better to use ipfilter feature for importing list
into p2p applications that allow it.

This program has gotten alot better since last I tried it a year or two ago. Very little cpu/mem usage now. If you use gnutella, bittorrent, or any p2p app then you should definetly be using this.

I have used PeerGuardian for about 2 years now. My downloads are definately faster. I have absolutely no reduction in bandwidth and I have never been blocked from viewing any website. This program is a must for any serious p2p.
