Phoenix Mail is a totally free e-mail client developed with Borland Delphi. The original program's author, Michael Haller, decided to turn the project into an open-source project.

Phoenix is open source. Recent & frequent updates to Alpha 10 version show that the developers are working hard.
This email client has huge potential. It's fast, highly configurable; has a minimalist GUI, and small footprint. I have added it to my watch list.

Happy to see a new free, small, portable, and fast mail client out there. It does everything and does it nicely. however it is ugly (i usually dont like fancy skinning and stuff like this, but phoenix mail is really ugly). Overall, a very promising project, but phoenix mail doesnt even come close to i.scribe.

This is a really nice email program. It is small, has just about anything you need, lets you see and delete unwanted mail on the server, and very inexpensive! My default email program!

It's lightweight, extremely fast, supports multiple accounts, on-server preview listing, and safely handles HTML mail. It needs a way to designate a default account, and like most any program in early development, could use several interface improvements. But it definitely has the right idea behind it: That e-mailing should be a fast, simple process, not show-stopping, system-slowing production. I expect it to eventually mature into a 5-star program.

Small, fast client. I can't figure out how to stop it from gaining focus every single time I have a new email, though. It's really annoying.
I like the fact that it can be minimized to the tray, however.
Signatures don't seem to be functional, either.

Personally, I think this is the best email client i've ever used! It's ultra lightweight, fast, stable (or appears to be over the relatively short testing period) and does the job very well indeed. The fact it's open source, free and GPL'd is obviously a plus too. Personally, I don't think it's interface is *that* much like Outlook Express, maybe a little to some eyes, but then I don't think Outlook Express has a bad interface. It's clear, functional and displays all that you want to see in easy to reach places. Rather it's Outlook's huge resource usage, load time and security problems that bother me. Phoenix mail has neither of these flaws so download and enjoy this wonderful little program.

Not bad for an early, open source beta. Too bad it looks so much like Outlook Express. All you Delphi coders try it, and help out with that Outlook Express-looking UI! I'm betting this program will grow and prosper, and the UI will get squared away soon!(bobad@charter.net)
