Could have been a good product if there weren't the big problems with stability. Bought it but never really used it because of the frequent crashes. In its current state it's a waste of money.

As other image programs go nuts trying to be weirdly inefficient, Picajet FX has managed to quietly get better and better, and still be faster than anyone else. Worth every penny, and then some.

You're joking right? FotoAlbum doesn't even compare to PicaJet. I've worked with FotoAlbum Pro and it can't do half the things PicaJet FX can. Use the software before advertising bad alternatives dude.

This app is miles ahead of picassa. Unlike picassa, picajet works for you when and how you want it to, and it doesn't lead you by the nose through a process it believes is best for your image collection. Picassa frustrates me, and Picajet is a breath of fresh air. I wish all software apps were this good and written with the end-user in mind.

Good point, and don't forget, PicaJet's UI is highly configurable.

PicaJet also can writes image caption info into the IPTC and even in XMP of DNG files (which Picasa doesn't). There are available Folder Structure view (Locate By > Folders) and slideshow with really cool transition effects. Free to try.

I have tried this product a few times hoping for it to run smoother. It does have a nice GUI but I find Picasa to be far more solid and polished. Picasa writes tags and captions to IPTC (you have to pay for this in PicajetFX) and the latest Picasa beta does show folder structure.

So because it's as good (actually far better than Picasa by a mile) as your favorite freeware app, you're trashing it? Oh yeah, that makes sense. PicaJet's user interface is so much faster and easier than Picasa's, and it's constantly updated. No contest.

This Tool has nothing that good Freewaretools can't offer. I don't see any sense for paying money for a tool like this. Take a look at Picasa. It's free and much nicer.

With all respect I don't agree with you dhry. PicaJet is a great program but it's a shareware. It has a nice trial period and you just missed it. In addition, you agreed with the trial since you've installed the program. The few KiloBytes left in your HD is a common practice and almost every trial software uses that. But let me say just one more thing: it's time to a real update/upgrade PicaJet team and please make another trial period for those who want to test it now like dhry!

Solid. Fast. Well-designed, and actively developed. Well worth every nickel.

Installed this a while ago, tried it and for some reason I couldn't remember, uninstalled and got rid of it. Months passed. Noticed it on FF and decided to give it another shot. Of course, despite me uninstalling it before it's left some crap in my registry and tells me that my trial period has expired. And in doing so, it's also told me all I need to know about why I uninstalled it in the first place. Quote: "If you wish to use PicaJet you must be register." I, unfortunately, am not a register. Therefore I'm going to stick with Picasa, which costs a good deal less and, judging from the feature sets of the two, is probably just as good as this.

Hint to the author - when someone uninstalls your product, don't clutter their registry or hard drive with nuggets of crap.

I agree, and one thing I love about PicaJet is its incredible customizability. The developers stay on top of the product, too.

I'm a registered user of ACDSee 7. It's a great program. However the ACDSee 8.0 "upgrade" is a kind of bad joke. Really few improvements that should be called just an update (and free). I'm really disappointed with ACDSee Systems. I've been upgrading since ACDSee version 4...

But my frustation made me look for an alternative and PicaJet is simply great to organize pictures and it's even easier than ACDSee 7/8. I have lots of folders and PicaJet makes a breeze to catalog and categorize all the images. There are lots of keyboard shortkeys (even to rate). It's not fast if a category has more than 8000 images, but if you organize your collection a little bit it turns real fast (ACDSee is not so fast in the same circumstance). The slide show is well done with "super" effects transitions. I didn't like the edit features of PicaJet. But I'm using it just as an image viewer. Finally, you can create more than one database (ACDSee 8 can't do that - maybe ACDSee 15 will). This feature is interesting so you don't have to mix all your photos (e.g. family and business) in one huge data base. I have purchased it today. It's really worth to at least try it.

PS: I'm not against ACDSee. I like it and I'm still using version 7.

BrilliantPhoto persistently hangs on ActiveX controls and crashes. No thanks. I'll take PicaJet any day. It's fast, elegant, and loaded. Moreover, PicaJet lets me customize the interface to view photos any way I want to, not how Google wants me to.

If you're willing to settle for "good enough," then Google is your company. But if you're looking for quality, PicaJet is right here. Besides, PicaJet didn't have to go out and buy a image viewing app just to have one.

Yeah.. the software is great. But this software is going to have to sell gold bars to compete with Google. Not saying some people will enjoy this more.. but for most... Google will win.

Not bad, but when competing with Google's Picasa software, which is better and free, it's looking a tad unhealthy.

Oh my god - finally, the image organizing app i've been looking for (and i've tried them all hoping one would actually be adequate). The creators of this program actually get it. So well thought out and so usable without any extra junk. Been playing with it for a few hours and i'm hooked. bravo

[pjlasl]: why pay for something like this, when picasa does exactly the same with upload features and more for absolute nothing?

Because PicaJet is far better, with far more features. Check first before writing in ignorance. Unlike Picasa, PicaJet is superfast and is continuously developed.

zridling

zridling reviewed v2.5.0.423 on Jun 7, 2005

I really like PicaJet because its developers have built in so many good ideas, compensating for the weaknesses of other freeware apps like FastStone and Picasa. And PicaJet's freeware version has virtually every feature its FX sibling has, including uploaders for online galleries such as Flickr and Fotki.

FredMeister

FredMeister reviewed v2.4.421b on Jun 1, 2005

I guess that PicaJet is much better software for advanced digital camera users than Picasa. And the last one created for home users and it doesn't have any organizing features like PicaJet categories.

Except PicaJet isn't cluttered, is faster, and was around long before Picasa ever hit the scene. Unlike most, PicaJet's indexing speed is phenomenal.

Nice, that they made two versions now. Not so nice, that the new version still has some bugs. For example the scrollbar in the middle frame often produces some visual garbage. And the WebExport still doesn't work. I don't see any of the templates and the dialog is useless. And I still miss navigation via arrow-keys in the slideshow or enlarged view.

But on the other hand this little program offers much more than Picasa when it comes to managing and organizing photos! The flexible categories are fantastic. Parallel selection of a date range helps a lot.

Please fix those little problems and I might buy this peace...

zridling

PicaJet now comes in two versions, this one being freeware now — Wow! The new FX version is the powerhouse, which includes more editing, search, and photo management capabilities. And if you do buy the FX version, it's a Lifetime License. Your first impression will be how fast PicaJet is.

This build greatly improves import and indexing speed, so much so that even I was stunned by the performance increase. PicaJet is seriously good software.

da3x

da3x reviewed v2.3 Build 346 on Dec 11, 2004

It's a very nice programm but still has some bugs. I can't use the WebGallery Feature because of missing templates. They are located inside the programs folder but won't show up in the GUI! I also miss some shortcuts to go through the images while in slideshow or even the normal browsemode. If they complete all those things and round it off I'd consider buying this piece.

Ishtumba

Ishtumba reviewed v2.0 Beta (136) on Jun 23, 2004

This is a beautiful application. There is little to no learning curve required to organize your photos and images. I especially like the way you can create categories with drag-drop capability. I believe this makes it stand out above most of the others out there.

The $29.95 is a fairly reasonable price to pay for this software, but I'd have to try it for a little longer before making the jump.

Give it a try, I think you'll like it.
