Poco is really nice, but when will be S/MIME and PGP implemented? I am thinking, which mail program lacks support of these security features and can not find any. What about support for eastern europe codepages? These messages looks really bad. What about better IMAP support? What about virtual folders? Even outlooks have this feature already.

Please stop working on GUI and work on serious features. We do not want another incredimail :-(

There would be necessary to do a test of stupidity to prevent people with cerebral serious hurt(damage) from doing stupid commentaries.
Pocomail like The Bat like Windows like Mozilla Firefox and any program that is massive has very much use and "they" "jump" the mistakes, thing that does not happen(pass) in programs that are slightly secondhand(worn), or in suppliers of programs who hide the above mentioned mistakes to the public.

Saying this, use pocomail does plus of four years, has his(her,your) good things and his bad things, is in the line of Thunderbird, The Bat!, Becky, Pegasus and different some you programme few ones that they contemplate a developed well interface, a reasonable level of safety and a speed esperable.

Let's look for the hair neither in the egg, nor the fifth leg to the cat, it is a good program that excels itself, as say the French " Lesse faire, Lesse Passe ", if they do not like it do not use it but if they it criticize that it is constructivly.

@themaven: It's not a common problem that people can no longer connect to their SMTP server.
I do admit that some users did have problems. :-/
Concerning the Bayesian filter I can only tell that it works for me. Not one message of spam gets into my InBox. Of course it's not in the same league as K9, because you need to tweak it to perfection.

@PFMM: Poco isn't buggy and the new version is extremely stable on my OS.
Bugs are adressed according to priority.
Version 4 wasn't rushed out of beta at all.
Poco Systems took the time to let the beta-testers find the bugs left and fixing the reported and reproducable bugs.

I also don't like reviews who don't tell the entire truth. If I remember you were using Win2K and it didn't work. Another user tested it on his system and experienced no problems at all.

Those reviews you pointed too are to be taken with a grain of salt too.

Anyway Poco works great here and if there are still some bugs left, they are of low priority.
Beta-testing continues pretty soon to iron out reported bugs and making Poco an even better email client then it already is.

No offense meant by it, but I had to get this off my chest.

Read the review below by PFMM and heed the warnings. There are lots of nice features in Poco, but many things don't work right. I can no longer connect to my website's SMTP server (common complaint in Poco Forums) since version 4 (3.4 worked okay), and the Bayesian filter is not worth a damn. I have to use K9, a free product that totally outclasses Poco's spam filter, to keep my inbox clean.

Probably the BEST designed email client of all time... human interface is unsurpassed... feature set is BRILLIANT.

And now for the bad news - its CHRONICALLY BUGGY! The programmer just cant seem to get his act together in the "nuts and bolts" coding to actually implement all of his grand ideas PROPERLY.

Its up to version FOUR now, and bugs are still left unaddressed - and paying users left HIGH AND DRY! - from version TWO. Version 4 was surely RUSHED out of Beta without testing it on all of the "supported operating systems" (check the Pocomail forums for grim tales of woe!)

HEED the words from the wise... check the reviews posted below dating back to March 25th, 2005 and November 29th, 2003 and April 29th, 2003!! These people are SPOT-ON in their assessments.

I deeply reget i didnt find this page (and also read DEEPLY into the pocomail forums) BEFORE i bought the program!

CAVEAT EMPTOR pretty much sums it up, I'm afraid. The only silver lining is that now i know what a really good email client should LOOK LIKE!

Will Poco Systems get it together and actually DELIVER THE GOODS by Version 5, or just muddle along hopelessly like the past couple of years?

It probably wont be til another year down the road - but I would like to give them another chance on the next version (assuming they 'do the right thing' and send me a refund for the hopelessly buggy version 4...)

Or maybe someone else will take all those glorious interface ideas, and give them to a programming team who can ACTUALLY MAKE THEM ALL WORK ???

Either way, here's hoping!

Having been a beta tester of version 4, and now a registered user, I can say PocoMail has taken a giant leap forward in terms of functionality, particularly in areas of IMAP and online folders. Across the board though, it's much improved, and is well supported. I highly recommend it.

Uso Pocomail desde la versión 2.4 , alternandolo con The Bat en trial, finalmente compré la versión 2.5, la única crítica que se le puede hacer es que es un poco "lenta" la interfaz, pero lo compensa porque es visualmente de lo mejor.
En cuanto a prestaciones, es veloz, seguro, los filtros bayasianos funcionan bien, tendría que mejorar apenas la visualización HTML pero está buena.
Es cierto que aún no soporta SSL pero en la versión 4.0 está prometida y le creo al autor.
Es altamente configurable y ofrece un excelente soporte y foro de discusión.
Las versiones beta nunca pasan de un mes y medio y lo que resulta, el producto final, es siempre bueno. Garantizado. Vale mucho la pena.

It was a really pleasant discovery finding this email client after having trialed/bought several others. :-)
Lots of features (scripts, events, bayesian filter, ...).

Poco is a really very secure email client and very customisable. Really fast in downloading or sending messages.

The next major release (coming this Summer) will have SSL/TLS, so no need to use a third party app to send through Gmail & others.
A new Search engine (much faster), Unicode improvement, new features and ...

So I'm looking forward to this major release. :-°)

I love its features, but version 3.4 still has a load of bugs that have been around for as long as version 3 itself has. Some of them have been confirmed--and subsequently ignored--by the developer himself. Nice.

And 3.4 introduces a nice new bug for me, in which HTML messages are totally screwed up. How lovely.

I like this product a lot. It offers a lot of features, and it is easy to use. I also use Barca which uses the same email engine as PocoMail but has a built in PIM. Support has been great even before I bought the program. Support has been great. The post by DavidB cannot be true. I read his post on the PocoForum and DavidB seem to get angry when he does not get his way.

This is a great software. I have tested a lot of options as email client, and this is the most complete in my opnion. It combines a nice visual design and a very nice set of options. Very good!

The Computer Rodent became a registered PoCo user simply because he likes this client better than any other e-mail clients. Bugs are gradually being worked out. And v. 3.1 is ~definitely~ superior to v. 3.0 ! ( Today's PoCo can't be compared to v. 2x ...which was absolutely aweful. ) Another good e-mail client ...this one freeware... is FoxMail.

interface looks nice, but it has many longstanding bugs and real IMAP is missing. I tried many clients and I will stay with TheBAT now because templates, filtering system and security features.

Just for a giggle I thought I would download 3.03 to see if it was anybetter than 2.64 which I last used. It wasn't. The same awful program with a new interface. Some of the bugs have been fixed but why bother with a program that is very slow to download and filter mail into folders? I managed to import over 700 emails from another program which caused the program to slow down even more when moving from mailbox to mailbox. It also crashed on numerous occasions and refused to download mail without the program being restarted. Unattended operation is a waste of time as it leaves my Internet connection open when it crashes and therefore costs me money. I hope Slaven Radic, the author is reading this - you must do better but please concentrate on fixing the bugs before adding new features. Perhaps I'll try version 4 when it comes out, perhaps I won't.

Very nice, very useful. Interface is nice and sleek, it has all the functions i need or would ever need. I even like the fact that it shares a common inbox for all accounts.
The only problem is that it has some problems with MIME encapsulated email, for whatever reason. I get --boundries as plain text, and the HTML formatting (if part type was text/html) is no longer recognised.
It's still very nice! I'd use it if not for the nagging MIME problem.

It is the best mail program I tried (Pegasus, Eudora, The Bat, Outlook Express). Very configurable with great functions. Please change the screenshot, it is of a previous version, the new is much nicer. Highly recommended!

Potentially a great program but the author just doesn't want to fix some of those "harder to fix" bugs! Version 3 is in the pipeline, yet version 2 is still being enhanced with bug fixes and changes. Although I have emailed PocoMail Support several times I have never got a reply. Before buying this program, visit the PocoMail Forums to see what problems other users are having. I bought the program then found that I couldn't use it due to bugs and limitations, be careful you don't do the same.

This is one of the better email programs in my opinion anyways. At least the author tries to make the interface look nice, unlike most of the other email programs. It has a lot of options also. I like it a lot.

Seems to be not a bad email Program, just a shame it is a bit clunky in use. The layout, menus & interface needs to be updated. It is skinnable but the skins for this aren't very good. It also seems to still have a few bugs.

Nice enough for POP3 users, but the IMAP support is a joke (even though they mention it in their feature list). Like most mail clients, the developers seem to think IMAP users only need to see their Inbox folder and nothing else. Get a clue guys -- implement IMAP *correctly* and you'll have thousands of users throwing money at you. In addition, the skin used in the screenshot was not included in the base package, which really sucks. I feel cheated. Twice.
