Stay away from this horrible, sneaky and piece of crap software as it installs several unwanted, undesirable and irritating junk on your PC.
I wrote this despicable company and asked them why they include all the sneaky and crappy junk and of course I never heard from them.
Do yourself a favor and never touch this GARBAGE program.
A big shame on PowerISO. They deserve to go to HELL.

If you want Searchbars and opencandy go ahead and install this program, even if you buy it and pay good money your computer will get "infected" with this crap.

You can skip searchbar install, but not opencandy, that is installed without telling you anything about it, dodgy imho.

This program was one of the best, but the extra "goodies" you get with it today has ruin it imo.

I'll repeat what I wrote earlier.
Enough is enough.
I paid good money for this tool, why do I have to get spammed with all kind of crap from your installer, first the "smileybar" then "Searchbar" from Conduite, and now it's infected with opencandy too, this is really bad behaviour, shame on you.
Stop putting crapware in your installer, or at least make an installer without it for us who has BOUGHT you program.

1star is what you get, if I could give you 0star I would do that, I did pay for this program, so I take it as an insult that you silently installs crapware on my computer, I will no longer recommend your tool to anyone.

I like this very useful and good program, one of the best.
Regarding the AVG Toolbar, on the second window, after agreeing this program's license, there is an option to uncheck this toolbar installation so it will not be installed. Pay attention.

In version 5.3 the author appears to have mended his ways and given users the ability opt out of AVG toolbar. Can't tell yet if the new version is otherwise booby trapped but I still think this software is better than the competition, other than the AVG caveat. (Minus two stars for AVG and not telling users about the opt out provision in the new change log)

No surprise here. Version 5.2 also has the AVG Search crap. Why do companies do this? I bought PowerISO awhile ago and I like the program but now I have to decide whether to keep using it. I don't trust them anymore. And any chance that I might switch to the AVG virus protection is not going to happen ever. You would think a security company like AVG would be the last one that would want to put unrequested mystery programs on your computer. Just another low life company that will do anything for the almighty search dollar.

MALWARE, MALWARE, MALWARE.

Installation AVG craps without permission is unacceptable.

Nighted

Nighted reviewed v5.1 on May 2, 2012

5.1 installs AVG toolbar into Firefox. Also it sets your homepage and default search engine to some AVG crap.

There is no mention of this in the installer and no way to prevent it from being installed other than avoiding this PowerISO installer altogether.

Not happy about this shady practice.

the proprietary issue is a complete non-issue, just select the type of CD/DVD image you want (iso) at rip time... so I dont get that complaint.. they are definitely not trying to tie you into anything, the daa is nice if you want on the fly compression, if you don't want to use it, no problem , one click at rip time... jeez

this program is great:
- gets continuous updates
- works in win7 since pre beta 1, nobody else did
- worked in vista from beta 1.. nobody else did
- works in 64 and 32 with same install, I had tons of problems with other ISO apps
- is very small / resource light, but powerful
- has an easy to use, intuitive interface
- doesn't use an add on for virtualization, or need a plugin for anything in basic use
- I've never had a single problem with it

I used ultraISO, daemon, just about all the ones mentioned here and elsewhere.. the closest one is UltraISO, but PowerISO wins by a nose because Ive had some UltraISO problems in the past... you notice none of the bad mouth reviewers here said anything about PowerISO breaking, right? that's cause it doesn't ever that I've ever seen

Metshrine

Metshrine reviewed v4.2 on Jul 10, 2008

Again, after comparing this with several other ISO utilities (UltraISO, ISOBuster, etc), there is no compelling reason to choose it over any other besides the ability to open the PROPRIETARY daa format, and even that doesnt justify it given that there are also many freeware utilities which do just what this can do. Sorry, 2/5

Here's the actual revision list:

PowerISO 4.1 (Jun 18, 2008)
+) Can create mixed mode image file.
+) Support better and best compression methods.
*) Some minor bug fixes and improvements.

One of those minor fixes is the use of hinted fonts in the main window of the program. That used to look sketchy before on LCD even with ClearType enabled and despite the fonts used for the menus and icons looking great. Now it's all fine.

A semi-decent program as it is, but I completely agree with many an earlier reviewer:

Another proprietary format to try and lock users into?

That is a sign of a company that can NOT compete in an open and fair market, but try to lock users in through a proprietary format (which in this case is completely unneeded).

For that, 2 stars.

BTW, the PowerISO makers do NOT offer a free/install-free daa-to-iso converter (another bad sign!)

For that you have to use DAA2ISO, which is Luigi Ariemma's freeware. It is a 3rd party utility and who knows how long it will work.

So, if you only want to open/convert that single .daa file you got, you do NOT have to install PowerISO. Just use DAA2ISO (google for homepage).

Skyfrog

Skyfrog reviewed v4.0 on Mar 18, 2008

Metshrine, they offer a free utility to extract or convert DAA files to iso. Plus you don't even have to use that format; it certainly doesn't deserve the rating you gave it just for that. Then again you like to give programs bad ratings for stupid reasons I've noticed.

Metshrine

Metshrine reviewed v4.0 on Mar 18, 2008

Crap. They created the .daa format just to have a proprietary format and force people to buy THEIR program if they want access to those types of files. The trial version limits you to 300MB in size. A few sites try and distribute files in daa format since they receive affiliate commissions from PowerISO and as such, are forcing others to use this crap too. 1/5

Banquo

Banquo reviewed v4.0 on Mar 18, 2008

Great program, and complaining that the trial does not give you full access is kind of dumb since it wouldn't exactly be a trial anymore would it.

How can I know if PowerISO is any good when it cripples its trial version (only 300M allowed)? That alone prevents me from comparing this to another program — because PowerISO craps out and gives me an error message at 300M, and thus loses my business. You can get cracked copies all day, but I'm not a pirate, so why bother. The dev has already told me he's not serious by offering crippleware.

I used to like UltraISO too. Then I found PowerISO. Much easier to use and more reliable too.

This with MagicDisk/MagicISO and pretty much all bases are covered.

adamlau

adamlau reviewed v3.4 on Sep 25, 2006

Latest PowerISO executable size sits at 856,064 bytes + the requisite scdemu.sys driver at 30,988. Not much of a difference from the highly regarded, rock-solid 958,976 byte UltraISO executable.

Downloaded it... installed it... loved it!
Till I mounted the first image and noticed that everytime you mount an image it auto opens in FOLDERS even when the image is video or something, not like how it should be, back to Daemon tools. Maybe if they fix this I will switch and even buy the software, its lite and has alot of options.

sweathog

sweathog reviewed v3.1 on Jun 13, 2006

Listen up boys & girls because this is software development at its finest: In just 748 KB, this developer has incorporated a CD imaging program, a virtual CD-drive manager with right-click access and cd burner--all in one.

In other words, you CD imaging junkies can now get rid of Daemon Tools, UltraIso and the need to launch a seperate CD burner like Nero just to create or copy CD and DVDs.

In addition, this thing has a new compressed image file formate that shaves a bunch of MBs off of image files you create. This is well done software, well worth the $29.95 he's asking for. And, no, I don't work for the company. I just appreciate it when a developer lets me unload megabytes of software bloat on my PC.

So far so good. Would've been nicer if the trial mode allowed full features for a fixed period of time, though (instead of the crippled trial).
