Publisher's Description
Process Tamer is a tiny and efficient utility that runs in your system tray and constantly monitors the CPU usage of other processes. When it sees a process that is overloading your CPU, it reduces the priority of that process temporarily until the usage returns to a reasonable level.

A nice program with nice support over at http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums/bb/index.php - all free! But if you are using it often, please consider to donate.

This is a unique application that does exactly what it promises. If you test a lot of software, as I do, then you must run this! When you have a lot of processes running, and some are not well known, this software can mean the difference between a system crash and a minor annoyance.

Given that Win98 is today's equivalent of DOS 3.3, Lt_Master's criticism is invalid. Process Tamer is a nifty tool to have when running long operations, among other things.

A highly useful utility when running a project that includes numerous processes. Great implemention of a straightforward idea.

A very good tool that helps prevent any particular program from hogging the processor.
How come Windows does not have such a feature?
I wonder...

Process Tamer is ok, but I prefer Process Lasso now that is free too.

CyberDoc999, you don't seem to understand -- you tell it what priority you want. If you need your games at higher priority, either tell it to ignore them or double-click the icon to disable the Tamer altogether. I think it's great for making sure the desktop apps that I want to be very responsive stay that way, and that background tasks remain that way.

good for business computers,
but bad for gaming computers
as most 3d games need a high CPU priority
in order to play well.

I don't know if it's all that helpful -- I'll probably find out in a crunch sometime. But it does what it claims to do and is quite thrifty!

This version is also problematic at 120 DPI. The utility itself works well, though. Very helpful in preventing CPU-hungry applications (and crapplications) from getting in the way.
Note for CyberDoc999: Process Tamer lets you exclude applications from priority control! (And by the way, your games may need a lot of CPU, but they don't generally run at "high priority". I know, facts are such a PITA!)

Wow! This program is a gem! Six points out of five!
