Publisher's Description
Protected Music Converter is a software which allows you easily convert your protected (or unprotected) music files to most frequently used unprotected formats (MP3, OGG, unprotected WMA). Thus you can listen your music on your iPod, burn them to Audio CD, upload them on your cell phone, use them on whatever device you want, even if it doesn't support protected content playback.

Was very excited at the idea of being able to remove DRM from approximately 550 music files (music that I bought with real money!). Well my expectations were dashed - and so was the music. The original files are OK but the converted files all have skips and silence throughout the songs. Sure, DRM has been removed. But so has the quality of the tunes. I'm really bummed, especially after spending $25! I'm back in the hunt for a superior product.

Although it is true that you can do this for free the other reviewers didn't mention that there are more steps involved in doing that and it's much more time consuming. I found this program very easy to use and it is fairly inexpensive. I didn't need to use a credit card as it accepted my PayPal account as a payment method.
If you're looking for a simple and inexpensive program to do this I would recommend this program. I gave it four stars as I do wish it ran a little faster.

Davidfun,
I too had trouble when I went to do an update, my key was no longer valid. I sent about 4 emails to all different id's I found on the internet. It's been about a week and I'm not sure which one worked but I finally got a reply from vicky at litexmedia dot com
Maybe you can try that.

I bought Protected Music Converter and it worked fine. When I upgraded to new version on Vista, it required a new key. In the software it states that you will get the new key free of charge. I requested the new key through various channels. They do not send the new key, so they make false promises and steal your money.

Works. Wish it didn't cost $$. I wouldn't put my CC on a site like this, though.
For the one that said, "Just write it to CD!", if I downloaded a whole CD/have a whole bunch of songs, NO THANKS. YOU have fun renaming all those freaking song files *screams and rips out his hair thinking of it*
Like I said, No thanks. Great program for what it does, but it seems kind of stupid to pay for a program that should be free from Apple / MPAA anyways.

Author, if you try and convert an itunes song when itunes is not installed you get an error but it still says its converting the file and places a zero bit file in the output folder. Whoops!
Of course it should not even try to convert.

This build is showing promise. It worked more than the previous build.
It is disappointing that you still have to close it fully via task manager, the application really should quit it and it's services when closing normally.

Yet another author getting money from unsuspected users for a process that while still illegal can be done for free with a little reading.
You, the author, should be ashamed at this blatant attempt to milk money out of those new to the Internet or purchased music.
You make true shareware authors look bad and drive people from smaller share authors and companies to the big, bloated mainstream software companies.
Do not download or purchase this, the same result can be easily had for free by searching Google.com.
Do not line this sleazy author's pockets.

Rebuttal to above: I have used some freeware solutions and there is not a good one that does everything. Often you have to switch between programs to do different ones, And worse other times there are infected versions of them floating around that the industry puts out there to keep this from happening... its worth a few bucks to a publisher that bundles all the tools into one package IMHO. And thats going to work well in a easy to understand interface. Just like I prefer DVDXCOPY to dvd shrink with dvddecrypter and FixVTS... Its a all in one package that works well and fast. that is what makes it worth a buck or two. not that its original or the only way to do it. that is efficient and does it in 1 or 2 steps max...
This program works great for iTunes.
I have multi computers and different people use each, as it was we had purchased music spread all over the network and on different players, so with this tool we were easily able to convert all the DRM music from all sources to MP3, and consolidate all our music to one central server... Now we can grab all the songs from the server and have them on any iPod we want. Without sync and resync; or repurchasing the song on multi machines in the same household.
This also seems like it will be really nice to archive songs for clients when they come to you with a machine thats in need of a major format and reinstall... This tool will allow you to archive those purchased music files for your clients quickly and easily, prior to doing the restoration on their machine. Then you can dump those mp3s back into their music folder and they will be all the more happier.
NOTE: This version does not seem to work with URGE at all.. However other WMAs with DRM like from Rhapsody and Yahoo seem to convert fine... Not sure what that significance may be, but that seemed to be why some were not able to get it to convert. (its still in beta after all)
YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE THE SOFTWARE THAT DOWNLOADED THE DRM FILES INSTALLED BEFORE THE CONVERSION. Once the files are converted, Then you can dump your DRM heavy software without looking back. This will not work with DRM protected music that you do not have the rights too anymore.

dude neither will almost anything else except one that uses conversion through the audio driver. This is why u download your songs and undrm them then ur safe.

Thank goodness for it being avail as a trial. The application just did not work for me, it came up with bad file errors. The files were ok.
I went to click on the feed back link, and it opened around 50 Internet Explorer windows with a mailto link in the address bad.
To fully close the programme on numerous occasions one had to do it via task manager. The application did not close in the normal manor.
