The new sophisticated architecture makes RadLight not only very fast and stable but also highly flexible & extensible via third-party plugins and modules. It's really easy to extend RadLight's functionality or to make it look completely different when necessary.

After seeing all kinds of reviews about this player, I decided to chip in with mine. I paid close attention to this player as it was being developed, and I must say it is, without much ado, one of the best players available out there (that's why the number of dlds is so high). A highly configurable, stable, pleasant and user-friendly interface, all-around media player. Think only about the fact that one can, for instance, assign a specific codec to process a specific kind of file. How many media players allow you to do that? I don't know about you, but I'm tired of media files crashing and not knowing what filter was responsible for it...
As for spyware: guys, you have no clue what you're talking about. It's clean, and no doubt about it. The only real fault I can find with this software is a rather slow development. Other than that... Try it, configure it to the max to your liking, and you'll see how much it will grow on you.

hey, i seriously dont understand why all this negative rating for this player. ya, its not some really remarkable player ... but it definitely DOESN'T CONTAIN any spyware, malware, adware, virus, worm, trojan or any of that s***. looks like it has received a lot of bad rating just because of some negative comments.
All the same, it is not some remarkable player ... i cant understand why the number of downloads are so high...?

A program that asks too much and delivers too little.
They ask $20 for this media player, when the market is already full of more complete, FREE players out there. RadLight's free version requires that you install spyware to run the program. This is completely unacceptable. Any up-and-coming star, as the supporters of RadLight claim it is, should offer a substantially computer friendly free version or a time-limited trial version to say the least. Even then, $20 is a lot to ask for something that plays media on your computer. Most users have windows, which includes Windows Media Player. Winamp has a very powerful Free player, and there are others out there such as Zoomplayer and DivX player.
If you read some of the other reviews you will find that RadLight's reputation is far from stellar. I am aggrivated to no end by a company that subverts new users into thinking they are getting something more out of a media player, when they are paying for less that what others deliver for free.
This is one of the last players I would choose to use on my computer.

The terms reputation and crediability are two of the most important things a product and the company producing it can next to the product it self. When either one is blemished it can be almost impossible to regain its former standing. Tylenol did it after the poisoning issue because they addressed and made corrective measures and already had a solid reputation and people believed them when they claimed it wasnt a QC issue. This product does not have a history of being crediable nor does it have a positive reputation among those who would buy it when another product that DOES have both is available. What does this mean?? No they dont believe you and yes they would rather use something else better rather then risk the same issues of the pastThe product shows nothing to set it apart from others of its kind except for a reputation that will doom it forever.

Scanned my system for malware before and after install. Before install, system did not have anything. After install, I got enliven, and a DSO exploit. Not sure if Radlight is the cause of that though. the scan(s) were dones with A2squared and spybot.
Now are far as the program itself. Looks like a winamp wannabe. It would not play any mpg file that I can watch with a differant player. I think it was a waste of time for me to even try it, but I wanted to see why everybody was hating on it. Personally, I would not recommend it to anybody, and not use it myself. It is uninstalling as I finish typing this

This company has such a nasty history of lying to its customers, hiding behind doublespeak, installing and UNINSTALLING software on users' computers without full disclosure and just downright having no respect for their customers that no one should even consider having anything to do with them or their product.
Seeing that there are dozens of good products out there that will do the same things as this one, and better, for free or for reasonable prices, there is no reason at all to even consider this one. Just go to the company site and read their adware/spyware link - what other media player these days has adware at all? Even if Savenow or Whenu or whatever doesn't send personal information, it is using your CPU and memory and bandwidth to bombard you with ads. Zoom Player, just to name one program, has a pro version that's five dollars cheaper and does a better job - and the free version respects the customer and installs no extra crap. Look around, there are plenty more. This company and this software deserve to die, regardless of how much they've tried to untarnish their image.

What I see its like this lot of people that just at looking at the name of the program jump and directly put 1 star, like when they see Real0ne, WMP, etc. And the best is that many of them are just trolling; read the reviews and look that many of them just come from months ago from the same people putting just one star. Radlight 3 CRAP, that was clear but this is Radlight4 wich is better. Sure this software is not my cup of tea, Im just happy with Wasabi Player (aka WA3). I bet 95% of you havent tested this one.
VictorAnderson reviewed v4 Pre-Beta 1 Build 8 on Apr 5, 2004
ha. Try running the taskmanager and see how much memory this pile of junk uses compaired to the WMP...duh! Note to the rating-staking-lying author - I would suggest renaming this application and starting over - seeing how people kinda assoicate this thing with bad-news and problems.

It does NOT connect to the Internet. Port 61680 is DDE server, oort 9050 is Network Remote input plugin, port 8765 is WinLirc. It starts fine even if I disallow it using ZoneAlarm. Btw. 127.0.0.1 means localhost ;) It's the server in Afghanistan where we upload all your private information and then sell it to Big Brother LMAO.
Also, the claim about using more memory than WMP is pure bs. RadLight has LOWEST memory usage from ALL players out there :)

Well to tell you the truth, i am affraid to run your setup:) There may be a spy-phobia out there, but i'm just to laisy cleaning up the whole system after installing and uninstalling your previous version. Dunno if the crew changed its views regarding spyware, even if sometimes i wonder if this spyware is legal in the first place. I tried not to ruin the survey, so i rated it 3. I must say radlight helped me a lot back in the past before mp8 (and before spy-war with your latest versions prior to v4). now with mp9 and divxg400-codec what's the use of this release? Maybe i'm offtopic here, but i relly think the best direction you could choose right now would be a media-studio, wich should combine leading media playing with media manipulation like converting, splitting, editing or capturing media files. there ar lots of such uttilities, but too few of them offer complete sollutions. You got the brand, it's up to you to clean it up.
VictorAnderson reviewed v4 Pre-Beta 1 Build 6 on Mar 3, 2004
ummmmm.... hey eL MaesTro you should read what I wrote - I did run it. And the whole POINT of a 'review' is to 'review' the application (and by that I mean the software as a whole of course - including marketing techniques). Your "If you don't like it don't use it" comment is correct - but you can't blame people for being honest about their opinion of the software's funactionality and the intentional attempts by the makers of the software to mislead people. I've been a professional programmer for 23 years now (longer that most of these people out here have been alive I suspect) and I've seen plenty of good and bad software (and for that matter written both) - hey look this just happens to be one of the bad ones. Get over it.
eL MaesTro reviewed v4 Pre-Beta 1 Build 6 on Mar 3, 2004
well patchous messengers plus got adware also, but you can remove it , none the less , Messenger Plus kicks ass. So giving 1 star just beacuse of that without ever trying is just pure bashing and acting like trolls. You dont like it, dont use it. Test it and give it an objective review. Dont just jump at every program you dont like givin them all 1 star. I wonder how many of you tried it (this version March/2004). Everbody makes a mistake and also deserves a 2nd chance. If your happy say with iTunes, then stay fair and dont bash programs just like that. Think about it.
bryhhh reviewed v4 Pre-Beta 1 Build 6 on Mar 3, 2004
This software is an overrated media player with an ugly over complicated, interface that gets in the way of the media you would otherwise be interested in. I can't understand why anybody would want to use this spyware/malware laden software when there is WMP6.4, Real Alt. and Quicktime Alt. and foobar 2000? Each to their own I guess!
dereferenced reviewed v4 Pre-Beta 1 Build 6 on Mar 3, 2004
To start, the most annoying thing about this program is that the developer beats you to death with propoganda and spastic posts about 'bu-bu-but what about thisssss?!!!' on every audio forum he has access to.
The program isn't freeware. It's shareware and/or Spy/Adware supported. Pushing the cost asside, the free media players are still more intuitive and less clunky.
It takes 3-4 seconds to load on my P4 1.8GHz box w/512MB. The interface is LOADED with useless visualization effects, the most annoying of which is the squishy like delay of the buttons when clicked... all the sorts of things you might think are neat the first time you load the program, but then get very aggrivated with through repeated use.
I do appreciate the plugin system and the keyboard shortcuts, but otherwise, the user experience is totally frustrating.
A media player should not get in the way of the media.

Pretty nifty lil' program. To be honest, I am satisfied with my current programs; but for people looking for a free solution or a less costly one anyway, definately try this out and see if it's for you. As one user said "it does what it says no more no less", a comment I agree with 100 percent. If you're looking for something feature packed - look elsewhere, this is only an alpha (I'm assuming, since it's pre-beta) build.
To sidetrack a bit because I feel the need to...
Betanews needs to seriously consider a way to screen and weed out those of you who obviously don't know how to freakin' REVIEW a program. At the risk of being flamed, I'll go right on ahead and say - first concept of reviewing a program is, if you do not download, install and use the CURRENT version of software offered for review - DON'T RATE IT! A review in every sense is the testing and use of the software offered for DL and rating. How in any capacity you see fit to rate it without testing it is beyond me. I see this so many times for all kind of programs, all from the same people. That's like deciding windows 3.11 SUCKED and giving XP a bad rating BASED on 3.11's performance. How silly and downright kindergarten can you get? How about never buying another intel cpu because years ago they tried to 'track' you through it? Or how bout' let's all buycott Mcdonalds because years ago they misadvertised by calling a 1/4 pounder a 1/4 pounder, when 1/4 lb is the weight of the meat BEFORE cooking. Or or, lets see - how about rating Star Wars Part 2, The Clone Wars a 1 or thumbs down, because you think that Part 1 sucked, so part 2 will too?
Goodness people...MOVE ON.
"Forget the sins of the past"
Whatever the software and/or developers have done in the past should be 'ignored' when it comes to the review of the current and future versions. That's for pretty much anything that is to be reviewed and rated; hardware, software, games, etc. etc. etc.
If they are up to 'old tricks' in new or current versions that you try - then by all means, blast em' - bring up the past and do whatever you want to do. But plain and simple - don't review what you haven't tried, PLEASE.
Some of us have 'beta boxes'. I do; - that way I test ANY program I see fit if it interests me. If it wrecks the system, no big deal - there's an idea for those of you who test pre-release software.

"Before you have a go at me...the post from me below has been reposted by beta news from the last time" Uhh...right...and I suppose that's why it directly refers to something I said in my post, right? And I'm also certain that BetaNews is reposting your comments. No offense, but I doubt you're that important. "I'd like to congratulate you on making yourself look like a complete idiot." Coming from you, I'm not terribly concerned. By the way, BetaNews here I thought that "personal attacks...will not be displayed"? "Most of the reviews on this version are reposts too,if you actually read the reviews on progs featured here you would have realised that reviews are always reposted." No, they aren't. That's why it says what versions are reviewed. No use lying to cover yourself now, you're repeatedly reviewing the same versions. "beta news will back me up on this one.. " Yep, I'm sure they'll be here any minute defending your personal attacks. "Have you any more unfounded comments for me?" Haven't made a single unfounded comment yet. Nice try though. And since I'm killing two birds with one stone... "DAvenger+crew you guys are forever s***listed on all sites that have security-aware users." Hmm..."foul language...will not be displayed". "And dkg_ctc, you obviously either haven't got a clue, are part of radlight or are close to someone who is." Yep, that's it, you've figured me out. I'm on Radlight's payroll. That's why I gave it a 2 on my initial post, and had no intention of posting back again until Mike_Stein decided to continue his personal attacks on a company which did something 18 months ago.

No, I'll only have a go at those who are posting the same tripe, version after version. I think that when your posts make up more than 20% of the posts for this software, someone should step in. If someone else steps in and starts doing it, then I'll do the same to them too. Until then, though, you're the only one being so obsessive about what Radlight did nearly 1 1/2 years ago that it makes up more than twenty percent of the posts..

RadLight™ 3.03 Special Edition comes in two variants - as a FREE ad supported version (helpware) or as a regular, ad free version for US $20.
There's a difference between Adware/Spyware and Freeware, and this one is Adware/Spyware (helpware my balls) unless you pay. Not to mention this application was considered a virus some time ago for maliciously deleting Ad-Aware (a very cool spyware removing tool, which happens to be REALLY free) when you installed Radlight. Bahhh
