Publisher's Description

Sabayon Linux is an Operating System, just like Windows, powered by the Linux Kernel, GNU and built from the users' side. There are many "Linux" flavours, geeks usually call them "distributions". We are a Linux distribution though. Even if Linux is known to not be as simple as the commercial counterparts in some (and few) cases, we are trying to provide to our users the best and most complete Computing Experience.

I'm triple booting my laptop with Windows 7, Mint 11(Gnome) and Sabayon (KDE). I've been using Linux Mint for sometime and upgraded from version 8 to 11, but have found it a bit buggy, I still I like it as Gnome Disrto. I've tried various KDE distros and have decided to stick with Sabayon. I have had some fun with it and would not recommend it anyone new to Linux, unless like me you like a challenge. Most problems stem from the KDE desktop and didn't become evident until I'd installed all the upgrades. Anyone thinking of taking the plunge should check this out http://wiki.sabayon.org/...rades_and_configuration. This explains how to upgrade using the command line, I tried the graphic installer 'sulfur' for the first major upgrade and it was a disaster. My touchpad stopped working, I installed an app and hundreds of other apps where selected to be removed, after this I restarted my computer and was unable login. There have been other things but there is lots of help on the Sabayon forums and I have been able to fix most things quickly. The packages included are standard KDE apps, Libre Office and a few others which may or may nor appeal. I'm no Linux expert but Sabayon looks nice, runs fast and is stable most of the time. If like me you have another OS to fall back on if the worst should happen it may be worth your while trying Sabayon, but give it a chance and don't dump it at the first little problem with it, stick with it, its worth the effort.
